So i’m watching the wyvern fight montage, and not much action there when it’s on the ground. I would expect this savage wild beast tearing kitten up, but nope. He just does the stationary flamethrower duty, not moving one inch till it’s time to fly.

I’ve yet to see a dragon in this game that would charge the players, filling all those voice chats with “Oh kitten IT’S ON US, HEEEELP!!!”.

To make my point, here’s a dragon fight done right, from vindictus:

Just first few minutes shows what a savage, relentless assault a dragon should unleash. I’m not saying our dragons have to be this fast, since we have cooldowns etc, but to consider this as a model for a good dragon behaviour.

A real dragon would never come down.
It would fly around and nuke you from the air, till it is shot down, chained or you are all toast.

The Itzel Lore last point lets us use harpoons to pull wyverns down to us to fight. So maybe there will be some zones that are hard to get around because theirs a wyvern nuking us from orbit.

Well, it’s not a dragon, it’s a wyvern

It seems to me like an interesting fight, but I agree that moving on the ground would make it much more dynamic. You know what? Let’s wait until the expansion releases and we’ll see if all fights are like that. This is supposed to be one of the easier fights anyway.

it’s also even worse when you consider many bosses have blind spots… so you see all players on one place almost whole fight just dpsing the boss… Claw of Jormag (not sure what’s the current state to be honest), Shatterer (for sure here), that last boss from Aetherblade fractal, it’s not even fun to watch it…

Claw of Jormag has had its blind spots removed, at least. Took a number of patches, but you cannot stand in one spot to avoid all of its attacks.

Was going to say that as well
OP: do not expect too much from stupid lizards, it’s not like they are real dragons anyway.

Edit: also, looking at the link, i don’t see that much difference, really.

Actions, not words.

It’s a fine balance. The fight is a bit bland atm, with the wyvern not moving while on the platform, but the fight itself would be horrible if the wyvern chased players around.

Can you imagine how they fight would go if over 50% of the platform was covered in the fire aoe AND the wyvern chased the players around? Add some cleave damage and there would be nowhere to run in that fight.

I can imagine it, and it would be awesome!

What? Wyvern is accually chasing people and killing them? Well hurr durr, maybe time to use that shield for some blocks, get those extra dodges you got under your belt, or coordinate group effort to cc it out of it’s frenzy!

One thing that would make the HoT bosses more insteresting would be if they didnt have a fixed spot to spawn, but rather fly around until he decides to wreck havoc on people and the boss fight start.

Like Skyrim, make it so the wyvern will keep flying around the whole map and he can land just everywhere on the map,it would make a fun hunting game.

I would love to hunt a boss, imagine if he lands on a very weird place, that part of the map that no one goes, etc…

Reminds me of Silkroad, where unique monsters (aka Bosses) would spawn at certain hours, but they had various spawn spots, not just one,and when the warning about their appearances was announced, everyone would search for them in those spots etc…Way better than a fixed spot on the map.

on the ground it should use its wings to slam players off the platform or maybe use a tail swipe. hmm what else… bites?

Well, given it’s anatomy it indeed can’t run like a cheetah, but we’ve yet to have one dragon that is mobile during combat, and by that i mean actual ground combat when we’re hitting it, and not flight/underground attack sequences.

I saw noticeable tail and wing attacks and what looked like bite attacks. It also had a wing buffet that knocked people back and at least 3 different fire attacks. There’s only 2 things that are lacking, movement and speed of attacks. It’s attack rate may be deceptively low on the video though (ie, just looks low and is actually quite fast).
