Either Paragon or Seraph/Seraphim*, i would say.

*due of the multiple pairs of wings

The game already has “Seraph,” and they are specifically the human military. I’m pretty sure the profession won’t be named something with that amount of confusion potential.

I think the wings may just be artistic license, or a blue shading of the current black wings.

Long bow … I’m so torn which one to put on my sylvari guardian. Though Chaos and White Hart are looking best to me right now, there’s a few good ones for her. Opinions? (I don’t have the last two, so it would take major effort to get them).

White Hart definitely, it’s a good looking but understated skin, and you can believe it would work as a bow, unlike that stone monstrosity second from last. For Kudzu to work, I think you’d have to add a hint of colour to your armour otherwise it looks out of place.

If last week is anything to go by, prolly Thursday we’ll have the blog post and Friday we’ll have the livestream.

If they go for something like Paragon, I hope they will bring back Arias, Refrains and Chants from GW1: maintainable buffs for the group. I loved my Imbagon back then, it was a super awesome build and was truly the ‘last man standing’ on the battlefield who could turn the tides of a battle!

Paragon seems likely, but I’d prefer they go with something White Mantle…
May not seem like something we’d embrace, but I’m sure there’s a way to spin it.

Justiciar, Confessor, etc…

Not sure I really like the idea of Obeying

I think the main concepts of Paragons will be present within the Guardian Spec, but considering the Guardian is basically a combination of a few GW1 classes, it could be called something different, so maybe Paradigm instead of Paragon. (Paradigm and Paragon are synonyms for the same word.)

They aren’t synonyms, though. I discovered “paradigm” back in college in the mid-80’s when it was an academic buzzword on campus. It’s a model, a pattern, perhaps a school of thought. A guiding blueprint, as it were, but it needn’t be correct or admirable, and it doesn’t refer to a person. A paragon, on the other hand, is a person (or thing, but generally it applies to a person) regarded as a perfect example of a particular quality, usually with connotations of excellence.

Wings of Dwayna is my favorite, followed closely by Sovereign. But White Hart is pretty good, too.

Thanks all who weighed in. I think it will be White Hart, but as I have Wings already, no idea how but I think I got it early in the game, I can always swap out the look. Wings can also go to my male human guardian, I like to stick floofy things on him. He’s my poster child for ridiculous outfits, his schtick is he gets a lot of bodyguard gigs and the vapid noble employers put him in goofy gear to suit a theme.

As to whatever the Guardian spec will be called, I’m guessing we don’t find out until Thursday, possibly tomorrow if there’s a third party article like last week. I’m hoping it will be as exciting as the Chronomancer by any name.

I don’t think banners make too much sense here, given that Banners are very front-line support and longbow is very back-line (also, I want a warhorn Guardian with Banners for a “Herald” specialization down the line). I think that Mantras would probably be the most likely inclusion from current Skill Types, but WoodenPotatoes indicated that Echoes could return, and that would truly be interesting.

I see many are on the Paragon bandwagon as well as some completely against it. It’ll be interesting to see how things turn out.

I also notice a lot of names being used from existing words. Well technically, Chronomancer is a made up word so why not another? I thought Arcwing or Archwing might be a cool name for a specialization.

Chronomancer was actually planned for the original Guild Wars: Utopia expansion. It got canned when they decided to work on GW2 instead. So considering that Druid and Chronomancer both have roots in GW1, it isn’t a stretch to assume most, if not all, elite specializations will come from GW1 lore in one way or another.

That is a good point, hadn’t thought about it like that.

I’d counter that though, with the argument that if they can come up with unique profession titles that aren’t particularly linked to lore like Guardian, Tempest and Revenant, then the same could be for upcoming and future specializations. Also, wouldn’t they start to run out of titles if they only pulled from past GW1 lore? And wouldn’t there be some expectation attached to such names if used?

Yeah, did they say that the specializations’ unique utility set has to be from a category that already exists? It could be an entirely new ‘group’ of utilities that might be shared with one of the other upcoming specializations.

@merchant

http://www.dict.cc/?s=custodian

I didn’t chose this option because of the meaning of a janitor, I did chose it, because of the meaning of "Hüter or “Bewahrer”, thats as synonym for Warden and Keeper.
Howeve,r personally I want them named the most “Patron”, because patrons are protective beings, somethign that fits the most to a profession thats most likely designed like some kind of guadian angel.
Looking at the picture, it screens patron saint to me and as a profession, it would be that said just short Patron as a kind of holy defender with strong focus on protection and smiting from afar shelting his allies with his holy wings of radiance like Alexander in FF9 protected with his gigantic wings in the game a town from Bahamut

However, it is in fact at least a real profession, nothing like such made up junk that is no proper profession name, like Paragon, Seraphim, Exemplar…

Heck, even Justicar would be a ton times more fitting proper profession name, that would be totally acceptable and more fine, than something unfitting and made up like Paragon, because a Justiciar is a profession, that acts like a judge to bring justice.. they would be basically Tyrias formal “police” in heavy armor, the white knights that bring right and order to the lands of tyria and protect those, who need them basically

While under the white mantle it was a rank among those fanatics simply, it can easily work and be seen also as a righteous profession.

I just hope anet keeps on following like with the Chronomancer the path of giving the elite specialization just proper profession names, that actually also sound like professions and do come over also like real professions and not like someones mary sue class with unfitting thought out names, because they weren’t creative enough to give their concepts some proper names.

Chronomancer fits well, despite being a fantasy term, because its the most well known ands accepted professionalistic soundign term for a mage, that is specialized on time magic, exactly like Necromancers, which are mages/scholars specialized on Death Magic, which is the reason behind their name, not to mention that Chronomancer just sounds better and more right, than to call that Class somethign simple minded like Time Mage, don’t you think so??

Playable professions need catchy names, that do fit to their style, them and design and they should sould like proper professions, so that they aren#t immersion breaking, but do integrate themself well into the list of the other existing classes, which do all have already proper names, so that the new professions don’t look like some kind of black sheeps among the ones that are perfectly white….

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

It’ll be called, “Paragon”. It’s really too bad they didn’t give the Guardian Specialization a spear to use as a ranged weapon on land. Especially since they gave that Guardian in the image wings like a paragon. If they want to add spear as a land weapon for the guardian at a later time(If they ever add new weapons for existing professions)and it’s called something else, it’ll be odd.

I’m psyched about the longbow for the guardian and that it will be called paragon. If paragon isn’t the name of the guardian elite spec. I will eat my beta GW2 ball cap.
