Let me just start off by saying that I’ve enjoyed just about every other event in the Verdant Brink that I’ve found, everything seems well designed, but this event just seems to be the one which is still half-completed at nightfall, which I believe shows that a lot of people, like me, just find it tedious by comparison to the rest.

For anyone reading this who hasn’t experienced the event, it works like this: You either climb a relatively well hidden path or use a jumping mushroom to reach a floating island of sorts, pick up a bundle, and make your way back down, either by using the same path or a hang-glider. This is done while fending off itzel/nuhoch enemies, some of whom will try to pick up and eat the bundle (although it might be retrievable by some method, the tooltip when the bundle is eaten is a placeholder at the moment).

There’s one huge, glaring problem with this event: when you have a large group (which you generally want for the next events of placing bombs and fighting a legendary boss), the event is much like the old shatterer pre-event before it got reworked in that the number of bundles required is upscaled with players, but the number of bundles which spawn isn’t, leading to the event taking ages, and even longer than the old shatterer event due to the hylek being far more dangerous than ascalonian ghosts, having a base scaling of “Bunch of veterans and regular mobs”, and actively trying to destroy the bundles which you need to complete the event (which, on top of the low spawn rate, makes the event probably as long as the rest of the chain put together), and that’s without counting the fact that the item you need is a bundle, so you can’t even pick up several on your way back to the drop point. Add to that elite hylek spawning due to high player numbers, and no real incentive to fight them, and you end up with players running an unfun and tedious gauntlet for minimal progress. In addition, due to the large area the event covers, it upscales very easily and makes it nearly impossible for that chain to be completed before nightfall.

Personally, I’d like to see it reworked to something more like the “Get metal scraps for Bongo” event in the noble chain, where there’s a fixed number that need to be retrieved, maybe setting it to about 10-15 since the items can’t be stacked in your inventory, have a lower spawn rate, and don’t drop from the area mobs unless there’s some way to get a Nuhoch to drop his bomb I haven’t worked out. That way, the event might actually get completed.

Apologies for the convoluted explanation, I’m not good with words.

tl;dr: Ordinance bomb collection event is like old shatterer pre, please rework to make it like new shatterer pre.

I noticed this when I was playing through the event as well. It’s especially tedious if you don’t have the glider and bouncing mushrooms unlocked, I found. A simple solution would be to keep the event the way it is but increase the number of bundle spawns, but I wonder how easy that would be to implement in practice.

I actually liked the idea of this event in the last beta – it was doable without the skills but was obviously easier when everyone had glide and mushroom masteries.

The problem in this beta is that the glide1 mastery xp was bumped up so a lot of ppl were arriving at the event with neither unlocked and just gave up.

As this event is not in the starting area when the game goes live, most players will have those masteries unlocked before reaching it. You are right that scaling might need to be looked at though.

Yesterday, I did this event with two guildies and one other person. It took us about 20 min. to collect enough stuff to make the NPC happy. That’s grindy. Please make this scale better.

I absolutely agree with you. Yesterday I was doing the entire event chain with 2 guild mates. We figured that since the other events gave us relatively little trouble that the scaling for the bomb event might not be too bad.

2 of us had both mushroom bouncing and gliding, and the third group member had gliding.

We spent about 10 minutes running bombs and got the event to half completion when we realized there was very little time left before nightfall and decided our time was better spent doing other events.

Something really should be done about this.
