When is a good time to get a decent map? I’m keen to get the bladed armour chest piece.

So far (with my limited play time), I think Verdant Brink has a similar feel to the Silverwastes, but the Silverwastes can get a good taxi going once a few keeps are held. If Verdant Brink starts to slow down the timer makes it difficult to turn things around, then people start to leave the map looking for a better one (or leave once they get hero points).

As for mob difficulty, yeah it’s a challenge, but I think I’m better at playing my class after defending a few things solo. More dodge and defensive and less run and smash.

HoT is a fluke, the next expansion will probably also be a fluke, Anet had chosen a poor direction and it’s very sad

HoT is not a fail. Can you just stop these complains/thread as if everyone got the same opinion as yours? Because it’s not even the case.
You can share your opnion but saying “HoT is such a fail” as title, when there are a lot of players that are still happy with it, is pretty annoying.

Thanks.

@Khyan: The OP never claimed “HoT is such a fail” though as far as I can see he titled the post “Personal Opinion of HoT” and in his post he states nowhere that HoT has failed. He merely states what parts he doesn’t like about HoT, that it sums up his disliking toward HoT and that he is going to try and get a refund. I agree with you on the overload of negative threads, but this fellow was just voicing his opinion, which is allowed.

@OP: While I understand some of your frustrations (especially concerning the story) most other parts require some degree of getting used to. I absolutely hated HoT maps just after release (I refused to play them for a couple of weeks) but then slowly started to play them, got to know them and now they are quite fun to do. Except when maps are empty, but that is not really a HoT specific issue… Apart from map-related content though, yea, it’s your taste that determines if you like it or not, nothing wrong with that

Good luck! And happy gaming!

I like it. Do I play the map daily? No. Do I enjoy the new map? yes. It took a little to adapt/learn as it was harder than Tyria but once I got my elites and better geared myself, it’s just fine. Do I die sometimes? Of course. And I learn how to deal with various “frogs that dodge and shoot ya”. I don’t enjoy a “pewpewpew skill 1 skill 1 skill 1 autoattack” game. The expansion is stimulating enough for the money. I know the metas are time-gated but I have yet to see the day in which I wouldn’t find a meta going on in one of the maps – or at least other adventures and things to do – every time I decide to play in the HoT map.

There are other areas of the game that I’d like to see improvement, but this one is fairly ok.

MOAR.

When i have time i will write some guide, kind of “Hot for solos and lonewolfs”, It is what is needed to stop these complaints here.. Currently i play HoT with the squishest Warrior Build.

It seems that the guys only makes World Boss Train every day are struggling with Hot.

It’s funny because I made a thread offering to show people how to get around HoT and not a single complaining person took me up on my offer.

As I’ve said many times, and will no doubt say again, it’s better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I might consider taking you up on that offer. I love VB… I love gliding, so this makes sense. I have literally completed the VB map 23 times — no exaggeration, each of my 80’s has completed that map. That said, I can not stand TD. I’d like to think that I’m a decent player, but that map just annoys the crap out of me. I’ve been playing MMOs for almost 15 years now, and I’ve never cursed at my computer screen while trying to navigate a game map, like I do what I’m in TD.

I don’t know if you have re-done the map but gliding is really good here. Glide from the whisperers wp to Teku Nuhoch with minimal ground time, two different routes. Glide from whisperers to dragon passage wp without actually touching the ground more than twice. Use the wallows to get everywhere else. It took me a while to find these routes and I am positive there are others but it is possible to get around without interacting much with mobs.

My honest opinion of HoT: rewards are crap. Thus if rewards are crap – less ppl play (they are doing fractals insted cause their rewards are crap too but for less time) – flop. Won’t talk about other huge thing – gating.

I know it would come with f2p, increase gem shop updates, more and more similarity with some other f2p mmo called AA.

Maps look great – design is bad.

I took a break from GW2 within a month of HoT release – as I was getting quite angry with the game; seemed incomplete to me and the massive gating on almost everything purchased clearly was intended to cover up that fact, imo.

On retuning I have noticed some small changes but essentially the same unenjoyable game as far a HoT maps are concerned. Way too many irritants seem present, the map system is poor, you have little sense of direction, looting is problematic as well – do I really need to stop playing for 5 to 10misn to clear my bags? I am also getting the distinct feeling that there is a cash element to the expansion design – i.e. to enjoy it you need to spend cash (a bit like those kitten games on iPads/Phones etc).

However the thing that gets me is that at the end of every significant session of 1 or more hours on HoT maps is that I get this ‘Hamster On a Treadmill’ feeling. Which doesn’t encourage me to return. It is also appears I have no hope of completing the 240 experience bar levelling’s any year soon and that the ‘abilities to be acquired’ are indicating a complete ‘fun-bypass’ by the game designers, I suspect they may have wanted to put far more fun abilities/items in there but due the delivery date most got dropped in favour of any-old-mush-will-do-as-this-doesn’t-sell-the expansion.
