Please allow Elite Spec at level 21
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Dear Anet,
This has been my first beta weekend for HoT and so far I have tried the Daredevil and Dragonhunter elite specs and I thoroughly enjoyed playing them.
In fact I loved playing the Daredevil so much that I want to have the experience of leveling as one! I might even want to level a Reaper (because I sort of hate Necro core specs and weapons, but would probably level one as Reaper if I could because it seems aligned with my play style).
However, it is my understanding that you plan that Elite Specs will not be unlocked till level 80, per a prior blog post. This is rather sad face.
So, I humbly and wholeheartedly implore that you PLEASE reconsider this decision and allow Elite Spec lines to be available at level 21 when we first unlock the trait lines. That would be awesome. It would also allow for REALLY learning the class — the subtleties and ins-and-outs that are required for mastering these elite specs (in some cases). And it would be a complete blast, plus create tons of new depth to the game experience for everyone!
Anyways, that’s my petition. I hope it happens. I won’t scream if it doesn’t.
Thanks for listening!
No! I just spent like 70g leveling my Necro to 80 so I can be a Reaper, now it’s your turn! Lol :P
For real though, just level it ahead of time with crafting, tomes, and EOTM and then go back and do all the map completion stuff when HoT launches. This way you’ll get the benefits of the new map rewards system HoT is bringing, as well as getting away from the huge pack of people in the new HoT zones.
If you simply log in everyday until hot comes out you will have enough leveling tomes.. Seriously its not difficult… plus it doesn’t cost a thing.
Its end game content, I seriously hope they don’t buy into giving it out pre 80. If they do I have an entire list of requests I fully expect them to give me.
Classes* are not content. Multiple games make that mistake and all of them undo it later.
People who are already invested in the game will play it anyway, people who aren’t invested are the ones tempted by the new classes are not going to play until level 80 just to try it.
All I have read so far is “Waaah I had to level so should you”.
*I am aware it is not a class, but changes gameplay to such an extent that it might as well be.
Are you even aware of what content is ?
First, It most certainly is content. If it wasn’t content it would not exist within the game.
Second, its funny you say all you hear is waaah, you’re right but the crying is coming from those that want it changed so they can get their way like spoiled children.
Third, its not the matter of effecting other players, its the fact that it was intended to be 80 content, people need to stop being children and accept that. Players need to stop acting like spoiled children every time they don’t get what they want.
I would like to see legendary gear available to obtain in all game modes instead of constantly favoring the PvE spoiled brats but hey that’s not going to happen so you know what I do ? I accept that it is intended for raids.
Its a reward for hitting 80, something to work towards. Get to 80 and use it as its intended at 80.
To be honest i have a 80 of every class….. but has i say before i do not enjoy the end game content, i enjoy leveling with my friends the most, for me the post 80 content its like playing the beta, ok i now have my elite, but now im 80 and really bored….what to do know? well is kinda bad levelin anoooootheeeerrr alt with a gameplay that i have already play like 1000 times when we have something new…. so the only statements that i have seen here is, “Please make it post 80 beacause it ruins my experience, My inmersion” man thats like roleplay but dont lettin the people chose their roles because it doesnt fit with your king of england rol….
I can understand not liking the core of a class but liking the elite.
I find necro to be tolerable but reaper to be a hundred times more fun, so if I could start off with reaper much earlier then yeah I totally would.
I find the reasons not to have them unlock before 80 to fall into several categories
A) If it unlocks for other people it won’t feel like “end-game progression” and will therefor be ruined because those “filthy casual scum”[sup]1[/sup] get it too
B) F2pers might get their F2P hands all over them
C) Elite players won’t feel as special
I don’t see them as end-game progression.
They are simply an expansion of an existing class.
I can see them leaving as something to unlock after 80 though because there are so many people who need things to literally be labelled “end-game content” or its not endgame content and they wont do it cause they’re so MLP pro hardcore engdamers only “engdame cotnent” is worth doing and only if it’s, like, super legit, and, like, also, like only 5% of the playerbase can, like, even complete it.
I mean if we’re going for real good end game progression why not lock the elite specs behind legendaries? Their kind of legendary specs right?
Want Reaper? Gotta make Twilight.
Want Dragonhunter? Gotta make Kudzu.
That’ll give the elite specs a truly elite feeling right?
I mean they’re called Elite, only Elite players should be able to unlock them right?
And its all BS. leveling in this game is so easy. The game throws tomes at you, you can get what 16? just from the logon rewards every 28 days? Plus there are some in various daily chests, pvp tracks, etc.
You can take a character from 2 to 80 the first time you log into them once you’ve set some aside. There’s nothing special about being 80 to warrant locking the elite spec behind that.
Sure, the OP can just jump to 80, and then all the exp from doing mapping/eventing and all that goes to masteries instead of just leveling, but for some its the journey and not the “endgame” grind destination that’s important.
And. it wouldn’t harm anything but the elitists egos for it to unlock earlier.
Mine are all 80, so I have no dog in this race, but it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest for someone else to unlock them too.

3. Elite specs are also Expansion content. They are designed to be immediately equipped in the core came by everyone, free account or otherwise. They are meant to be discovered, unlocked, and then used to your advantage in the jungle.
They’re only expansion content in the sense that they’re locked behind the $50 paywall, as far as I know they haven’t actually specified how you unlock them.
I really dont know how could people so selfish exist….. it hurts no one to have the elite early….. Even those 80 PPL who are arguin about to not to have, i must ask you a question; why did you care so much about the people that wants the elite earlier do not get it? is not like you will be running with your 80 in the open low pve areas… in what way doest it hurt you or hurts the game…. Even this so called expecializations doesn’t bring a op factor in leveling is just a new way to do the things, even i know many many players who are gonna to stick to vanilla for the end game contend and even pvp just beacause vanilla talents are much better in some cases….
You are being selfish yourself, having it at 21, especially when there are multiple elite specs for each class in the future, is the most confusing thing ever for new players. Think ahead, in a few years someone playing his first character, at lvl 21 unlocking 3 or 4 elite specs, that’s just silly, lvling teaches you the class, if you want to skip it you can always use lvl tomes.

I’m against the Elite Specs being available below L80 for a few reasons.
Firstly, the existing content was created without the elite specs in mind and, in my opinion, elite specs could detract from the leveling experience more than they could add to it. They may end up trivializing non-80 content too much.
Secondly, and more importantly, the elite specs give you something to look forward to at L80. People have complained for three years that there’s nothing to do at L80…well soon there will be. There will be Elite Specialisations and Masteries, amongst other things. I think Masteries alone would not cut it because once completed on an account they cannot be re-done. Elite Specialisations will be unlockable each time a character hits L80. I think that’s special, and should remain so.
No longer should players be left thinking “well now I’m 80 do I just grind out dungeons?” No, now you can see your Profession from a whole range of different perspectives (enhanced further with new Elite Specs in future).
This is exactly why it is level 80 content. “I’m bored once I hit 80 and I want more to do.” ANet has added in things to do at 80: work on Masteries and skill up Elites. The whole system is there to ameliorate the bored-at-80 issue. If you got it all unlocked at level 21 you’d be right back to wanting something new once you maxed your level.
It is completely relevant, end game content to be given to low levels is still end game content being given to low levels.
Just because you choose to view it differently because it suits what you want does not make it any different.
In what way is it endgame content? It’s your character. Raids are endgame content, it’s content you play at the highest levels of the game. Your class is just your class. It’s what you play for the life of your character. Classes aren’t content. The things you do with those classes is content. That is why so many MMOs offer a way to instantly level characters to max level when they introduce new content, even if they also introduce a new class.
Like I said, I’m totally on board with having to acquire it as endgame content, but it should not be a character bound acquisition. It should be account bound, so the first character has to be 80 to unlock it, but after that just let us use it whenever we want. There isn’t a single elite spec that is worth having to wade through 80 levels before acquiring every single time.
What’s more, most of us can instantly have a level 80 anyway. What exactly is the difference? I intend to have a Herald on day one. So how does it matter if I burn through a scroll for level 30 then 50 tomes of knowledge to be level 80 to use that trait line or I level the old fashioned way, but start using the trait line at level 21, assuming I’d already unlocked it?

The elite spec slot isn’t unlocked until level 71 anyway tbh, just like the elite skill slot isn’t available until level 31 no matter how many hero points you have. This is just another character progression thing.
I’m sure you can all argue on about the pros and cons of having elite specs earlier but I doubt that anet is going to change this with a little more than a month of development left. Most everything is already in place.
Each spec is character-bound because this is a character progression thing. It is no different with elite specs except that they require level 80 and cost more hero points.
If you’re playing the game regularly you can have a level 80 quite fast. Unless you never play but once a week you will definitely have your character to level 80 before HoT releases.
So, given that it’s such a small jump, you’re okay with it being accessible to a level 21?
No I’m okay with you taking that simple jump to level 80, lol.

Agree with Yargesh.
I’m against having any of the specs gated. Its pretty silly when you already have a limited resource in the form of hero points. If a guy wants to run around collecting points and getting all the specs, I say let him use them right away.
