Look I am all for hard encounters but when I beat these hard TRASH MOBS and they respawn so fast or the mob density is to many then it is not a challenge but an error. I enjoyed each fight but after 20 minutes and constantly fighting these things with each encounter being in a 30 second gap it has become apparent that this new trash mobs needs some spacing or longer respawn timer.

Maybe more spacing because I swear this new combat feels like underwater combat. The mobs are too close to each other. I found it difficult to not accidentally pull two more mobs. With no rewards from beating the hard mobs whats the point?

We all love the challenge but i’m a realist and I want my effort to mean I get rewarded.

The problem is that not everyone has access to all the tools required to deal with these mobs, and you will not always be in a situation where you have other people of various classes around to help you.

I mean heck, VB was almost empty tonight and it’s day one of the BWE

I am an asia/Oceanic PVE player (all kinds of terrible pings/lag/loss packet/dc/dc/dc you name it one are my best friend) and I really love the difficulty level right now. We are fighting dragon minions, it’s not supposed to be easy. For once actually we are not just another mindless zerg roaming a map pressing 1 again and again. I can feel the excitement that has already long gone coming back to me. it feels like bwe 1 allover again like three years ago. everything was perfect. and yes, please, at least learn to play the class you play before you give some feedback. Please do not nerf anything. just fix the bugs okay.

So, when the first rush of excitement wears off, what’s the lure of coming back here? Better loot? More challenging instances? High damage mobs quickly lose their lure, and twitch reaction dodge or die isn’t quite so much fun the further away from the servers you get.

How many people still go to Dry Top for the challenge? SW is popular due to high loot, what’s the longer term draw here?

Will people now have to swap armor sets to survive? Switch builds? None of these are easy over multiple characters especially with ascended being gated and no way to save builds (a very basic oversight that, after 3 years, really should have been fixed).

Yes, snipers are ridiculously OP atm. The problem is more apparent when you are doing the night defensive events and a pack of snipers spawns on ur location. A lone sniper is threatening enough but a trio of snipers will end any player, regardless of build, gear.. I was in shroud mode (playing reaper), wearing defensive gear (soldier + knight combination) when a trio of these things turn up and shot my reaper to bits in under 3 seconds. That’s not fun.

Running into them unexpectedly or them getting the drop on you is a wakeup call, more or less. Still, with them being glass cannons, they are real easy to kill, so they’re not that much of a problem.

To me, they’re just something to watch out for, but they die real quick to heavy hitting AoE attacks from my Tempest, and my Reaper (who is far less squishy) has few problems with them.

Just be glad they don’t have cc, that would ruin a player’s day.

The difficulty spike of VB makes thing interesting, that’s for sure. It was intended that way due to the fact that a number of us have cut out teeth and played a lot in Dry Top and the Silverwastes, which themselves constituted a difficulty spike when they first opened up and serve as a wakeup call to players just coming into them.

I like it, despite my frequent cursing when I die, as it means that things are again challenging.

As a whole I’d agree with the OP. I think most of my problems have stemmed from 3 areas: a build ill-equipped for the mob, inexperience with the specialization or bugs. The first two will be fixed with my time and the third is an omnipresent evil in MMOs.

The main thing I’d ask for at this point is for a few areas with just one hunter or smokescale or pocket raptor group so people could actually get a chance to solo it and learn the mechanics. Can I learn it in groups? Yes, it just takes longer. Can I do it against more than one mob? Absolutely, it just takes longer.

I’ll learn it either way, but having an area to solo a creature would be a nice QoL feature to me.

Their tells need to be a little more detectable. I don’t know whether it’s my graphics settings or what but the only way I could tell snipers were aiming on me was a target over my head. Honestly, I feel they shouldn’t have any visual cues except a distinct projectile. They should definitely have a distinct audio cue when they take aim at you though. They’re at least more manageable than projectile Teragrifs.

I’ve never been downed/rallied so many times in the past three years as I was today in VB. These new mobs and mechanics are great and make you think about how you’re going to proceed rather than leaping in and mashing all your buttons. This expansion content is going to take a lot of teamwork to get thru. A lot of players are in for a wakeup call as they are not going to be able to solo sleepwalk thru this content like they did 1-80.

To all the people that are complaining that it is too hard, go find another game to play. Maybe Hello Kitty Online is right for you. Don’t go trying to ruin the challenge and fun for the rest of us.

Once I adjusted the lackluster build I received on my beta character, I managed to survive more than 30 seconds when encountering some of the new beastie mobs. I had to pull out the Monty Python defense (“Run away!”) that I had stopped using once I learned to fight whichever character I was driving with some measure of skill.

It may just be me but it seems that the area was just a bit overrun with enemies, i.e, there are very few places you can go to avoid attack, take a breath, and heal up a bit. (I used to think that about Orr so maybe I just need to explore more.)

I certainly would not wish to do casual solo farming here but variety in levels of difficulty for different zones keeps the game interesting. Verdant Brink is so busy with fighting that I start to fatigue out quickly and need to either port back to the entrance or leave the area. This is not really a problem, just a limitation caused my inability to play at a high level for long periods of time.

I agree with some of the posts above that the action in this zone is just a bit too intense. Blasting through the area at top speed is not my idea of fun and not being about go five feet without being attacked, conditioned, or downed tends to ruin my day. Still, I was able to adapt and survive long enough and get the entire map discovered and all but two POIs. It just seems like there is too much happening for such a small area. Gameplay seemed a bit laggy with so much going on.

The density of mobs does up the challenge a bit but despite that I actually like that. From a non-gameplay perspective, we’re entering enemy lands and trying to attack what passes for the Mordrem fortress. I’d be very disappointed if there weren’t mobs everywhere. This way it actually feels like we’re not in friendly territory anymore.

I have to disagree on the Snipers being OP. I had a bit difficulty running my tempest with pure zerker so I switched to combination of zerker, valkyrie and celestial. After that the only time I had any trouble with the snipers was when escorting Skybreaker and that’s only because we faced an elite sniper along with a horde of other mobs with just four players. Still we prevailed in the end so it was actually fun.

What the game needs is more enemies like this. The difficulty here seems like a good change and something that needs to be propagated to all level 80 zones. Otherwise no one is going to play the new maguuma content as it is much easier to earn (currently) better rewards from easier zones. Difficulty alone is not a good reason to play a zone even if it makes playing more fun.

If anything the content is still too easy as it’s still relatively difficult to get downed. Even less to actually die.

it really does make it unpleasant traveling through the new zone… coupled with the fact that there are only 2 waypoints -makes just getting to an event a royal pain.

at one point i grew really tired of fighting and went back to the village to chill out-and it was under attack ^^;. throw in the endless deaths from falling and you have a tedious slog.

other danger is that i’m already growing bored with the jungle. i’m hoping they have a lot of city content (and armor sets) in the full release.

I have no problem with difficult mobs. Many people have been clamoring for more difficult content and Anet delivered. My biggest concern is that with the increase in complexity, my computer will not be able to keep up. It feels as if the system requirements just went up a notch or two. Obsoleting my hardware does not keep me around as a paying customer. I can’t just go out and spend $$$ for a new system when a game developer makes such sweeping changes to the only game I play.

A lot of people don’t seem to realize the teleport isn’t an evade unless they’re in the mist, so you can interrupt it, or just keep killing them during it.

Also, am I the only one who thinks they don’t even got that hard? They’re fairly annoying to deal with for me since the only hard CCs I have are a KB and a taunt, so I can’t just lock me down and burst them, but I sure as hell don’t have issues killing them.

Now those pocket raptors, those little kittens take “Swarm them!” And “Everyone, COME!” A bit too literally, and it’s moments like that which make me wish rangers had more AoE lol.

The elite snipers hit for 11 K with every attack. no matter if it is rapid fire or a simple attack.
One single mistake (or not even one, considering you can’t block evade forever on small areas) and it will kill you instantly. The trash version is ok, because you can escape from him if you do an error, but the elite are not. How can they not be OP?

These snipers one shot my mesmer every time i come across them, they need a bit of toning down imo. It’s especially bad when there’s more than one of them, it’s insta death, not fun.

You get a red marker over your head saying you’re about to get kittened and they go into the kill shot animation with a bow. You can dodge, interrupt, block, reflect, and body block the arrow, there is literally no excuse you can give me to make me feel sympathy for a MESMER (who has ample amounts of all those things) dying to one of these mobs.

So what i would want is to have those mobs placed over the map and added to events, but i do not wish to see them and fight them every 10 meter. It just is to much mobs everywere and having to nonstop fight for your life just to move to a location is just to exhausting. Not to mention there was very few spots were i could get out of combat to wp due to so many mobs.

So don’t nerf them, but please make a bit less of them in areas were we are just transporting so it does not take me 10 min to move 5 meter because i have to fight 5 vets, 1 champ and 10 normal mobs.

Yeah .. nothing against some of those mobs now and then, but if you see them
everywhere and are not even able to get to the next waypoint since you died
once and then have to run the way again and of course all the mobs are
respawned .. that could get old very fast.

And do we really have to see 80% of the mobs are vets ?

All those tips sound nice, but its an open world area where mobs respawn, often
still directly after they were killed, and there often is not much place to kite
because then you would run into the next mob that was just respawned
behind you. And also not all classes have much stuns, espically not as much
as those mushroom vet that can knock you down every 5 seconds or whatever.

I said it already in another thread .. that zone could become another Southsun Cove
very fast .. and beeing a map that is hard to navigate / explore doesn’t make it
better.

mmm…not exactly looking for sw2…but with the present map (and in fairness this is a small section) i really feel railroaded. i feel forced to take a certain path and constrained in my movements-there is only one way to go to each ‘event’ /objective

and again with the lack of wp’s death is painful (not in a challenging way but in a ‘holy crap i’ve got to walk all the way across the map sort of way’).

i just don’t see the appeal in fighting beetles and tigers and tendrils every five feet-these mobs are uninteresting to me…at least skritt have some personality. the mushroom heads and various mordrem elements don’t have that much appeal.

these are just first impressions of a small portion of the map so i’m not that worried yet…if the entire thing is like this-umm….

It may just be me but it seems that the area was just a bit overrun with enemies, i.e, there are very few places you can go to avoid attack, take a breath, and heal up a bit. (I used to think that about Orr so maybe I just need to explore more.)

Orr explicitly had its mob density reduced with a patch.

Generally, I agree with both of the threads running through this topic. The creatures themselves probably should not be nerfed (although, perhaps Mordrem Snipers could stand to have their damage reduced and their durability increased – currently, they’re basically a ‘do you have reflection’ test unless you get caught by surprise, but not everyone has good answers to projectiles like mesmers and guardians do). However, when you get these mobs every few feet, and they’re virtually impossible to escape from unless you have stealth… it does get tiring. Particularly if the player population is low – at some point, Australian players are going to be wanting to at least progress their story during off-peak periods. (I tend to time visits to the Silverwastes and Dry Top for weekends when I can play during peak, but that’s more about getting better rewards than being able to get to story locations at all.)

Some of the mobs also seem to rock-paper-scissors certain professions. For instance, even with chronomancer, mesmers remain vulnerable to being mobbed by lots of weak creatures that hit like little 16-wheelers. Those mushroom critters, on the other hand, can put down a lot of knockdowns and other crowd control… which is fine if you’re a profession with good access to stability, but some professions are notorious for lacking just that. Specialisations may help there, but in some cases I think there is a valid concern that the result might be less ‘choose a build to suit’ and more ‘this profession simply doesn’t have the tools to handle this’.

And if is is genuinely going to become a matter of changing your build every hundred feet or so to deal with a different mob, then we’re going to need templates. :o

I think you where out at night? I was at the back of the map at night, with only one other player. Then it can get ugly, Managed too stay alive until i encountered a Mordrem Troll Champ, was a little bit to much to solo, with all the minions around him :-)

It don’t matter, day or night, there’s too many mobs. night time ofc is much worse. Personally i feel, that if this is what HoT is all about, fighting endless mordrem, sounds like a huge mob grind to me and that makes it no different than SW or Orr for that matter. I see this becoming tiresome and old very quickly, at least for me. Put it this way, i spent half an hour there and i was already bored with it. All i was forced to do during that time, is endlessly fight off large groups of mobs that spread their hideous aoe’s all over the joint, or tossed you around like a ball, even knocking u off bridges etc, when all i wanted to do, was a bit of exploring. I don’t mind having to fight mobs in an event but this place is crawling with them everywhere you go, making my experience there very tedious. bleh, i’m starting to regret pre-purchasing this expansion.

^ Mostly this .. i just wanted to go to the next waypoint .. had to fight maybe
10 veterans before i died the 1st time, restart from WP .. fight another 10+ vets
and then died on a normal mob that was more or less invincible for my
dagger / well necro.

My interest to go back there is zero at the moment, at least not alone. So it
may end like Southsun Cove .. go there if friends also go there, but alone ..
hell no.

I haven’t found any mobs difficult, the thing is not all classes have a lot of options. Many specs have NO hard CC to counter with. And with the Smokescales, which I kinda like aside from how blatantly they’re just giving Revenant Sword 3 to a mob, there is little counterplay. They just pop their burst CD and deal their damage and there’s not much you can do other than avoid 2 or so hits of it blowing all your endurance, unless your spec is fortunate enough to have an invuln or block.

And their teleport move is up faster than your regen is up, so the Veteran Smokescale, which actually does enough damage to be a threat, unlike the normal ones, can often deal serious damage on every teleport attack after the first no matter how well you play.

And it should be noted that Revenants CAN be hit when they do the attack, so I assume Smokescales can be AoEd and Cleaved during theirs.

I like the new mobs, for the most part. From Smokescales to the Mushroom dudes to the Stoneheads to the Raptors. The single enemy that seems slightly overtuned are the Mordrem Snipers. Their Rapid Fire hits heavy armor like a Zerker Ranger in pvp hits a light armor target. If you get unlucky you can easily be 1-shot by a sniper from 1k+ range when they pop it.

Which is, of course, good training for dodge rolling and evading and using reflects. But not every class has those, and the range is so great that if you don’t have a blink or teleport or some shield/reflect CD, you’ll have to endure 2-3 rapid fires from them to get into melee range, and you might not have the options to survive that long. Especially if you end up fighting 2 or 3 in a row and blow your defensive CDs on the first few.

Although there’s a clear tell for their rapid fire, the duration of the attack is so long you cannot dodge it correctly.

That was pretty much my thinking. The rapid fire is actually more destructive than the sniper shot.

Put some form of reflection between you and them and it’s a solved problem. Otherwise… well. They seem to be a bit binary – either you spot them, deploy appropriate countermeasures, and they die in seconds. Or you don’t, and YOU die.

They’re hard, but I don’t think they’re necessarily ‘unfair’ kitten the other hand, they might be more fun if they were a little less of a glass cannon.

Out of curiosity if all you want to do is reach a waypoint why stop fighting the mobs? When I first explored HoT map I just ran past them. Even in spots where you can’t circle around them (which there are many) you can just run past them. All it takes is a stun breaker and stability which to my knowledge every profession has. They don’t do that much damage after all but if you want to play it safe add a block skill into the mix.

I mean it’s not like it even requires specific running builds like GW did. Just a few skills.

The mob density is fine as it is, Night Time is crawling with mordrem and makes it very dangerous to go out alone and puts a huge emphasis on bunkering down and trying to last through the night.

Daytime on the other hand isnt nearly as packed and is much easier to go around on your own and enjoy the scenery in between getting mauled by packs of raptors.

Personally I don’t think it’s too hard to just run by everything either, I went out on scouting missions at night quite frequently just to see how much things changed and just high tailed it by most mobs, only stopping to kill things other people were fighting, or that would interfere with movement(IE a mob with a knock back next to a cliff, and even then I’d normally dodge through it).

Ofc this will never happen since also most of the players would never admit that

No-no, you misunderstood me! I don’t want every mob to be yellow… But I would like to see some areas where you can stop safely for a minute or so without killing 5 mobs. It’s a bit awkward that you cannot even say “Hi! How are you?” in the guild chat without getting a respawning mob right into your face…

After like every 20 mobs there should be a resting spot… I cannot really explain but I’m sure you know what I mean….

Necro has 1 !!! second stability in well of power .. that is already more or less gone
after you have casted it .. and another 3 seconds on Plague form that has a recast
of 180 seconds.

Else i normally am just not a fan of training through mobs .. either i end up where
i get stunned rooted and have 10 mobs around me .. or i just train them to another
poor player who is already fighting and now gets my train as add.
Don’t like that since normally i’m the person who has to fight other peoples trains.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

The real problem is not easy to know the mechanics.
1. When u attach a mob, the screen show “0” damage but not do not tell you why.
Do u know which foe I talking about ? Do u know how I attack the mob and what skill I am using ?

2. The screen show a big word “Immune” when u attack a mob but u do not know has been “Immured” .

3. I know that there are words under the mod name show the mob ability .
Howeven it not easy to tell u every thing.

I said it already in another thread .. that zone could become another Southsun Cove
very fast .. and beeing a map that is hard to navigate / explore doesn’t make it
better.

I want my warrior can knock down the mob every 5 second.
I want my warrior hammer can push the foe from the cliff and let it fall
I want to have fun but not keep knock down 2 mob until dead when stability skill in CD (do I need all break stun skill on my skill bar?)

Yes, I can dodge roll , although Anet just nref the endurance regeneration recently

I heard someone remind me that do not roll and kite into another group of mobs .

I also heard another one say u also need to take care condition like Crippled as u may keep Crippled until dead by a group of mob if u not kill them.

I just noted that my skill bar do not have enough slot and need to switch skill , build every a few mins , every ten meter, every type of mob.

Thankfully someone gets it and just isn’t drinking the kool-aid.

As I see it from the POI the Masteries look like what they are banking on to keep people active in the new maps since they’ll be locked into those areas if you want to raise them and Anet (Colin) seems like they want it to take A LONG TIME to get the masteries done since (IMO) it’s end-game content. Not sure if it’s going to stay like this but loot is next to non-existent (I know, it’s Beta and you can’t keep anything so I KNOW) so will the loot tables change when HoT drops? Because, you’re right. Loot is what keeps the vast majority of people I know going back to SW.

Speaking from a PVE-only point of view…

One thing to keep in mind is A LOT of the loot ( at least what I’ve been getting) has been a currency that’s just a big ? so far I’ve gotten Green, Blue, Rate, and Exotic question marks, so I’m really curious what those will actually end up being…

Mobs in Maguuma are great. Do not change them, they feel really right.
When you struggle to kill a group of mobs because they outmanoeuvre you is simply fantastic.

Would be awesome if to a some degree Anet could apply they smart to all the mobs in Tyria.

Would be nice if they reversed the vigor and endurance nerfs they’ve done over the years. Then they wouldn’t have to nerf anything.

NOOO!!! Don’t nerf them! I think they are fine as they are. So many Zerker players who can’t play zerker complaining. It’s about time that there are some content in PvE where you can’t go zerker and just roflstomp the whole world. Time for some players to learn to play.

Doesn’t matter the gear from my experience. Zerker or not, if you have more than one sniper you’re going to have a bad time if you’re alone. Surprisingly, though, they die the fastest to my zerker reaper staff w/wells.

Oh and btw something i forgot, if you can’t handle being nearly oneshot by these clear tells, don’t get zerker gear.

Doesn’t matter the gear from what I’ve tried.
