I dunno how exactly Anet designed precursors collection but i’d like to see a system like this:

X collection items – > final reward precursor

Items collection:

-no rng
-no time gate
-account bound
-linked to the legendary weapon story
-spread across the entire Tyria world (not only pve but like WWW and SpvP rewards).

Precursors account bound

What are your preferences?

I hope it involves leveling the new masteries (lore, combat, flight) and actually finding pieces needed to forge the precursor.

Good hints

BTW From MMORPG interview

MMORPG: Let’s talk about precursors! My favorite topic! Is it going to be sort of like Luminescent Armor, where you do a bunch of little things and it all comes together?

CJ: I think the Luminescent Armor collections are a really great example of the type of thing we can do in the game now with the collection system. When we originally talked about adding precursors and the ability to work toward them (“A long, long time ago”), it was always with this in mind. We had a plan, we decided to do collections, and felt like collections were just a much better way to do what we wanted to do with precursors than what our original plan was.
The collection system allows you to go on these big, epic journeys that send you all across the game, and Heart of Thorns is going to build on top of it. You’ll use collections that are unlocked by spending mastery points, and those collections will send you all over the world – not just to the jungle, but to the existing game, as well. Think of it like a big, epic quest that you’re on all across the world to complete your collection. You’re touring our entire world and beating all kinds of exciting content as you go through it. When all of that’s completed, the precursor awaits you.

MMORPG: To clarify, it’s one precursor collection… per character? Per account?

CJ: All collections are account-based, so there’s one collection per precursor per account

So yes, precursors will be linked to new mastery system and you won’t need to forge it, precursors will be the final reward for the collection.

As much as I hate rng……I think it should remain rng. If it becomes step 1 do that. Step 2 do this. Step 3 do that your done….. everyone will have one making it not unique at all no?

Way back when the scavenger hunt was announced, a lot of people thought the hunt would be so difficult that it would be easier to farm gold and buy off TP still.

How is rng any different? They’re not ‘unique’ as it is.

the glowy caprax armor skin collection is IMO a good base for a precursor collection. You fight bosses to gather pieces, need to bring certain pieces somewhere use em on stuff, combine pieces to get a full one and basically master SW to its fullest. Neat idea imo. Lets think a bigger scale… the x-pac is gonna (hopefully) add a lot of content. Easy to make it like "get a piece of boss a, a piece of boss b, a little magic jingamabob from that place you cant reach cept you fully master your glider and defeat that insane hard champ that you gotta solo and its perfectly tailored to be a challenge against your class, bash mordi over the head and take a piece of his tail..or a tooth or whatever, translate some ancient writings to learn about the history of a ruin and solve the puzzle within to get another magic doodaddle, get some crafting recipe for a precursor gift, mix it all, add a little love and a bit of salt, toss that nonsence into the mystic forge and BAM precursor is yours. Would for sure make more fun then to cough up enough gold for exotics to dump into the forge on a daily basis.

You make it sound like all those steps will be trivial. Chances are, it’ll be more along the lines of getting the Luminescent armor, where each piece requires a boss or special challenge.

Though really, even if it was just “collect a christmas ornament from six different jumping puzzles”, it would still be more epic and exciting than rng.

RNG doesn’t separate the legendary players from the forgettable players, it just separates the lucky from the unlucky. There’s nothing legendary about getting lucky.

I’d like it to be something like the Mawdrey quest line. Man, that mixture of saving up for materials and scouring the world for unique materials was great. Still look at those items with fondness, the adventure it provided,

It will be like the collection with the exotic items worth hundreds of gold each, and because of demand, greater total cost than the precursors ever reached

Already said in multiple interviews it takes inspiration from the lumi armor and Mawdrey, which consist mainly of account bound items.

I really, really hope that the collection items will involve a fair mix of PvP, WvW and PvE, but I doubt it. But it’s the only way for the weapon to be truly legendary, imo.

WvW players will complain of PvE / PvP players in their area not doing the jobs they should have done. Not being on TS and not following the commander or his orders.

PvP players will complain cause they actually always do. Next to that there are WvW / PvE players ruining their games and they’ll rage even more.

PvE players (dungeon / fractal runners) will complain cause WvW / PvP players are not exp in dungeons, don’t know what to do, and can’t stay alive against slow attacking mobs / bosses.

Conclusion:
Everyone will rage and complain for doing content they don’t like and for others ruining the content they do like..

So the collection should be in open world, with other words in the non-instanced jungle (if there even are instances in the jungle).

what worries me more is the mat price. I wonder how they’re going to do it without crashing the market. With new legends (one for each weapon, I presume) the mat demand will X2 (well not perfectly double but you get the idea). If they rely entirely on the existing mats for the recipe (I sincerely hope not), I think the price will skyrocket. When that happens, the new problem will come when it’s not about RNG precursor but it’s going to be about mat/gold grinding/price manipulation (which is far worse than RNG in my opinion) and people will start another QQ train.

Use entirely new mats → old mats obsolete, price crash
Use entirely old mats → demand multiplied, price sky-rocketed

somewhere in between, maybe?

They’ll probably implement the crystalline ingots for this. they could also use bloodstone/empyreal/dragonite since those are account bound anyway (although getting 250 bricks/stars/ingots would be terrible if they did that)

No one should complain.
if you’re good enough on WvW you should be on a guild that does closed raids with only the “Pros”
if you’re good enough on PvP you should have your own team, don’t queue alone and then rage because the pugs aren’t doing what you want because no one cares about what you want.
if you’re good in PvE and dungeons you should have your own group, YOU CAN EVEN SOLO DUNGEONS.

If you want to do things with pugs then you don’t have the right to rage about them.

all true, now go tell it to all gw2 players… gl with that…

There are always ppl that will complain.

Ow and not all dungeons are soloable… Next to the fact that not always your guildies / friends are online to group up with.. what should they do then? nothing?
