Seens to be the most logic thing actually.

The whole setup for HoT StoryLine is the Season 2 (That is actually sold in gemstore as 200 gems per episode).

I already have all episodes, since i played on the releases, but I was thinking how upsetting would be for new players get into the game, complete the core storyline, and then find out that it have a gap in between core storyline, and Hot Storyline – And they will have to once again, pay for that piece of story..

If they get the $100 deal they technically could be getting it if they choose to do so. The way I view the LS is that it is still time limited, its just a perk that you can now play it over for more rewards if you were there to play it the first time or purchase it. They’d still be missing season 1, which overall I think would be more important to the story, as it has us celebrating the end of the personal story, the introduction to the zephyrites, scarlet, and mordremoth stirring.

If ANET gave that away for free, they’d have the same debacle with people QQ-ing that they paid for it because they wanted it for HoT.

Nowhere did it say it would be free for new accounts, and it’s not free, so I don’t think there’s a problem.

Yeah veterans are already complaining, it would probably be an error for Anet to give Season 2 away at this point.

Either way, I am quite fine, since I have all of that content already. I just think that it is a bit strange to offer the whole core game, instead of offer the precursor set-up for the expansion.

Not everyone received it for free. I had to purchase like three episodes, scattered randomly across the story line because I was just too busy with my studies and, frankly, just didn’t care about the story at that point.
And I bought it and still didn’t play any of it… What a waste.
Many others have already bought the entire package.
How do you explain to someone, who bought the full season 2 like 2 months ago, that they threw that money away?

No, it shouldn’t be included in the HoT package. It’s for sale in the gem store and if anyone really wants it they can use gold to get the gems for it. No, it isn’t part of the core game, it isn’t part of HoT, it is a separate offering at a separate price — free to those that were here to support it at the time it was current content (and therefore be enticed to buy gems at the time), paid for those that were not. It’s really a simple concept — not everything is free.

You were around, it would not kill you log in by that time to just get acess to it, so its your own fault having to pay for it. Refund for a in-gemstore iten that you can buy with in-game currency? (Gold to gems), don’t think so.

Whatever. Its a single single suggestion that I think makes sense. (Much more sense than the Hot Price, or the itens actually included on it).

I think that the only thing out of control here is the hate on the forums. It was a simple suggestion, sorry if you guys are stressed with anything else.

ON another note , I already pre-purchased HoT Myself, any inclusions they made don’t affect myself in any way. What I proposed here was only under my viewpoint as a gameDesigner myself, and the possible reaction of new players in future when they actually notice that there’s a huge gap between Core-HoT, that they aren’t very well advertised when buying off the actual game.

I did not play Season 2. I am wondering if I will miss that link in Hots story or if the story is so generic anyway, that it will not really matter ?

What you will miss from S2 is the lumie set, nomad/sinister ascended trinkets, and mawdrey(and AP if you into leaderboard).

If you just want to know the story, go search youtube, and save yourself from the headache on some encounters.

well if its only gear i be missing, it should be fine. Im only gettings hots for more story and the new class (= more story). So would be sad if story was crippled as not knowing season 2.

Just let me get you some light:
Heart of thorns Story start right at the end of Season 2. Like, exactly a continuation.

Season 2 also introduce important plots and cliffhangers that HoT will deal with.

And finally, there are some crucial revelations within Ls2 that are the main plot for HoT.

So, yes you should at least read about it, but it will not even be as closer as experience the episodes in-game for yourself.

So much about Anets busniess practices is killing my interest in this game. You the OP bring up a great point. This “Expansion” is tremendously overpriced.

I see the logic considering it leads straight into HoT.

The one and only reason though I see this as a bad idea is we would get a million posts complaining “us whiny vets expect more free stuff!”

Sure I unlocked them all free except for one story I had to buy. But I’m sure they will have a really cheap sale before launch and after launch for season 2

If they don’t include Season 2 somehow, just expect the story of Season 3 to be watered down a lot and less of a direct continuation so that it doesn’t confuse people who haven’t played it.

If it is part only of the Ultimate edition and is part of the pre-purchase then yes.After the pre-orders end and the game is already release the bonus LS that was offered for pre-purchasing the game is removed.

If you play the game for the story, then yes – I think it’s worth getting it. If not, then like noted before, you should read through it or watch youtube videos of the episodes to catch up on the story.

ive been psoting about this in another thread :/ But my opinion there is that all new players should get LS2 bundled. Anet already said that new palyers will get the game with the expansion to stop a huge price being a barrier . Now to the HOTS expansion goes on where LS2 left us. That measn that a new palyer buying the game will be hit with a $20 gem purchase barrier to get into the story and go onto HOTS.

the existing Gw2 crowd got it for free and some paid for the episodes they missed. So there will again be some people who will moan and some that dont.

But this option will have some people unhappy and some not. The best way to deal with this is to say that all new players will be FORCED to do the LS2 first before they can move onto the HOTS areas. That means the existing players AND the players who who bought the gems will have access to the HOTS content hours before the new players can.

that is a very fair way of doing things.

You cant expect people to pay $50+ only to tell them they need to pay $20 extra so they can catch up on the story. That is the dumbest thing i have ever heard.

New players already miss out on S1… why would they need to worry about S2. XD

I still fail to understand your argument about empty SW and DT maps. Last I looked they were far from empty, and lacking the LS2 episodes doesn’t prevent you from getting on those maps to my knowledge. What you miss is the mainly single player story instances which – yes – will prevent you from experiencing firsthand the story between the end of personal story and start of HoT. If it’s for the story alone though, you can catch up on it through ’let’s play’ videos. Of course it’s not the same level of immersion as actually playing through them, but it will give you a full understanding of what went on, and what to expect.

I based my reasoning that on the day of release every one that now populates SW and drytop will move on to the new area basically leaving those areas baron for at least the first day. all the NEW players will be lvl 1 and leveling up and cant access those areas. The ones that bought Gw2 on the sale that does not pay to do ls story will simply just move on to the new area because this is where all the people will be.

If they plan on continuing the LS arc, then they might aswell add it in, especially if they plan on having all future LS be included into expansions. Though like you said people will complain as always.

Uhhh… yeee-ah? Yes, I believe suddenly opening new content will draw a lot of people away from the old areas for a while. Not just SW and DT, but Orr too, Shiverpeaks.. well basically from everywhere. Anyone with level 80 and HoT access is likely to at least go have a peek. That has very little to do with LS2 though, and bottlenecking people artificially wouldn’t make them any happier.

I’m not yet sure if I’ll get the expansion and keep up with GW2 – I’ll wait for more info on it, which is bound to come around once the betas get rolling. If I do though, then in all likelihood I’ll go have a quick spin around with my ‘main’ character, and try out the elite spec for a couple of the classes – that would likely take a day or two. Then roll a revenant – and if I like that class, will do a 100% mapping with it before getting serious about HoT areas.

If they intend GW2 to be mostly story-driven PvE-wise, they need to grab profit out of it in some way. If they start handing out LS2 for free they’ll lose the opportunity to profit, it’s very different from giving a character slot for people who supported them over almost three years. They even have a discounted LS2 package in Gem Store…

And re-open the floodgates of illogical nonsense like “why am I being forced to rebuy LS S2? I already have it unlocked and it costs $20 in gem shop, so I should be able to buy expansion for $20 off. But wait, I am also being forced to rebuy base game with expansion, but I already bought that, so I should be able to buy just the expansion for $40 less than the $59.95 price tag. Combined with the living story $20 off – ANET you must give me nickel otherwise slap in the face to vets!”

No thanks. The living story seems to have always been a “gotta be there to experience it” concept.

S2 is available on the gem store. It isn’t super expensive. So no.

If you really want to know the story but don’t want to pay, there are probably run throughs on youtube you can watch.

I would agree with you but this LS 2 is not the same like other LS episodes. IT didnt stop it didn’t end. Its still going on into the expansion. So to expect people to pay for the expansion and expect them to be ok with missing half the story is pretty sad in my opinion.

LFG is one way to do it. But I want to make a standing offer:

Assuming I have not got a prior obligation or my own in-game goal at the time, I will be happy to take people through LS2 to experience the story on request (maybe not the moment it is requested, but scheduling can happen).

Advantage: You don’t have to pay and you get a guide who knows the fights. You can run around looking at things rather than relying on where a videographer chooses to point the camera, so long as your guide is patient.

Disadvantage: You don’t have control over the pacing of the dialogue other than asking the instance owner to go slowly so you can read it, and you can’t do the object interactions that advance the story. Also you don’t get the rewards etc, but this is about seeing the story with a chance to explore the area. No sudden surprises or getting to figure it out on your own, either, the guide will tend to take you to the right spots.

Any one chapter won’t necessarily take too long, but overall it will take enough hours that it can’t comfortably be knocked out in one session. LFG might help with filling in chapters if you want to continue and your guide is busy; the guide can join in at any point of the instanced parts.

Another possible disadvantage: I’m not sure that you will see the open world parts that bridge between instance areas. The clues in the SW desert will be there, but no green star helping you know where to go.
