On one character I defended the Itzel village but on another I decided to try the other path and follow Tizlak to attack the modrem. With defending it was hard but was doable, but attacking and following Tizlak seems broken. Tizlak does NOT lead. He just follows you. And the arrow on the map .. I go as far as I can and end up at a ledge. I can either not take the ramp up and go straight to a dirt bridge that leads out of the instanced area and kicks me out or I can take a turn left on the up ramp and follow that path which leads outside of the instanced area. Trying to talk to Tizlak gives me absolutely no answers. I have walked all over and finally just gave up and logged out of the game. I bought HOT when it first came out but have not been impressed. So far it seems very “one game style” instead of what the base game had been all along. HOT is basically only a Silverwastes expansion but I personally prefer Silverwastes to HOT except for gliding. Map is terrible and extremely easy to get lost on and many parts seem broken as well as XP is broken if you get more XP than is needed to train and get to the next training. But at this point, I have tried and .. well .. I am stuck. Most of my guild stopped playing after HOT came out and being frustrated and walking in circles with no clue as to where to go doesn’t give any incentive to keep on going.

Too long; didn’t read?

Picking the attack with Tizlak path is broken and you cannot proceed past claiming the 2 areas.

I’ve done it just fine, several times over. O.o Not sure what issue you’re running into.

You did the attacking path? Can you help me? I have walked everywhere and nothing triggers the next part.

You can see the where I walked in the mini map in my pic.

Okay I don’t need your help. Turns out just because you did it and my instance was bugged didn’t mean I was doing anything wrong. I went through it again and verified that it WAS in FACT bugged. Not every time. But when it does a trigger does not happen. In my case it was the blisters did NOT appear. This basically put the whole instance on pause.

Going through it again this time Tizlak DID lead (up that ramp) and this time the blisters DID appear and I was able to do the story.

I ran through “the jungle provides” on a few different characters
(mesmer, bearbow ranger, hammer-greatsword guardian), never
had a problem.

Then on a dual pistol condition aoe engineer, Tizlak did the stand and
do nothing thing just before the blisters. I did not understand it, but
recovered by backing up a bit (to the previous encounter position),
and re-approaching Tizlak. That brought Tizlak back to life and I
was able to finish the instance.

Now I’m going through with an aoe focused necromancer. The
fun there, is setting up ambush situations where NPC and necro aoe
hits just about everything at once. Which is great fun, but every single
encounter, Tizlak bugged out. As for the engineer, I backed up to the
previous encounter location, and re-approached Tizlak. Which always
got him going again to finish the instance.

Hey look! A bug from nearly a year ago, and it still happens! Happened to me just now, he’s worked before, but this time he did nothing.
Please, for the next expansion, if you must make long story instances, at least let us save some progress during them. Having to redo an entire story section because they are so terribly buggy is annoying and just makes me want to quit rather than do everything again.
Just when I start to think about playing Guild Wars 2 again, I’m reminded of why I stopped playing as much.

Any time I have Tizlak just standing around, I run a little bit back up the way we came, then run to/past him. That usually gets him moving. It’s similar to the later step when you need to “explore further” on your initial foray into Rata Novus; that one won’t trigger unless you go back on the ramp behind the NPC’s then run through them.
