There are several reasons to think this.

1. It would be the first Scholar class to gain access to them.
2. The most obvious choices for shouts already have them.
3. Npc Necromancers have leadership roles (Trahearne and Marjory)
4. It would address the issue of party-support that Necro’s lack in.
5. Lastly, the existence of a set of skills from GW1: Orders.

Orders were a series of skills that Necromancers could use to apply specific effects to allies that triggered on landing a hit on the enemy. While I do not expect the exact effects to be applicable in GW2 gameplay, the name type would fit very well for a shout skill.

These were the GW1 skills:

Order of Apostasy: all allies remove an enchantment (read: boon) whenever they attack. 5s duration, lose 15% of your life-pool whenever a monk enchantment is removed.

This could be implemented as is to let every ally strip one boon for a total of 5 removals.

Order of Pain: Allies deal increased damage on attacks for 5s.

Could be a generic Might buff or vuln?

Order of Undeath: Minions deal increased damage on attacks for 5s, lose 2% max health whenever a minion attacks.

Not likely applicable, but the name could be re-purposed for a heal ability.

Order of the Vampire: allies steal X life on attacks for 5s.

Another possible heal ability.

So. Just sayin.

Necro’s will get shouts.

Then all the skills could be named some sort of boast theme, perhaps giving your team more confidence/boons, or perhaps just conditions on said enemy as if you are taunting them.

Or perhaps a revive skill like they had in payday 2 where your character shouts at someone “get the eff up” and they rally.

I almost feel like the elementalist “Tempest” is also a possibility and here’s why.

Tempests in reference to storms are well, they are violent storms, they are chaotic and loud. If the name of the specialization were intended to be the signifiers of what the specialization is suppose to be about it would only be natural for the elementalist to get “loud” abilities whether visually or audibly like yelling.

Of course I can be completely wrong.

EDIT: also a lot of elementalist utility skill don’t really affect party members outside of bundle conjured weapons.

That would be a disaster… Everybody is expecting the Alchemist to be the next Engineer elite spec (aftet the first one in HoT).
But if they can make a Guardian become a Dragonhunter, they can totally make a Necromancer become an Alchemist… It will just be called Ingredientmixer.

Of course I’m exagerating a little.
But no, there’s no link between alchemy and Necromancer, even if in some alternate universe it could fit. Many people tend to link them together but alchemy is definitely not magic.

To me specializations HAVE to focus on something that is perfectly integrated to the base profession. As long as it is not too developped already so it is not redundant. But if you don’t have any space for it in the profession that deserves this spec I would recommand not to do it at all.
It would be strange and inconsistent to have an Alchemist that is a Necro, but not being able to be an Alchemist as an Engi… This is ONE of the problems we have right now with the Dragonhunter which has nothing to do with a Guardian, but a similar archetype could have been good for a Ranger for example (with a different weapon of course, and a different name).

I wont care if they’re immobile if they function like the spirits from GW1. If you’ve played with the ritualist spirits, you’d know just how powerful they are. Imagine a spirit that gives invulnerability to allies. Or a mass of spirits that can wall off foes and strike for massive damage at 1,500 range. Or even a spirit that rallies downed party members when it dies. The Ritualist Spirits where absolutely amazing. I’d be in favor of their return.

Possibly, but if they are going with the more Ritualist-y feel that Jory seems to be foreshadowing, I can easily see necros getting Conjure. Whether or not that would be good or horrible would be determined.

Sadly, when/if they ever decide to add in ritualists, I very much doubt they’ll get spirits. Necros already have minion as pets, and that play style is already taken by engineer’s turrets. I could easily see them giving necros the ritualist’s item spells in the form of conjured weapons/items though.

thats possible too. But as of this moment the zergling play style that GW1 MM provided doesn’t yet exist in GW2. And that’s also a possibility for a Spirit spammer style of build. They seem to be mixing play styles of professions with the release of the dragonhunter and even the Chronomancer seems to have quite a few necroish elements to them as well. So I could see spirits providing a different take.

As for conjures? I’d be cool with that but that also seems like a bit much for a profession that has weapon swaps already. So I think its unlikely for the necromancer. The revenant’s specialization providing conjures? I think thats possible. I don’t think the revenant should be left out on these skill types so that’s something to think about.

As we have seen, the new wells and traps have been somewhat different. So, imagine this :

Elite Spec : Banshee
Skill – Rending Shriek : Damage enemies in a cone in front of you, causing them to bleed. Also adds bleeding/cripple to the next X attacks of your allies in a radius of X.

Skill – Shriek from beyond the Grave : Apply damage, chill and poison to enemies in a cone in front of you. Also add Chill and Poison to your allies’ next X attacks.

There. Close range damage that also has group utility. That would be freaking awesome.

shouts are AOE around the caster, so they work well for providing melee oriented support.
The holes in necro right now, are melee playstyle, active survivability, and support that provides something unique.

shouts could provide this, however so could other skills.

i doubt you will see something that fits strongly with existing uses of necros, the specializations generally seem to be trying to bring a more active, higher skill cieling and new play to the class. (so far)

You’ve got bias about shouts. You’re right about the fact that guardian’s and warrior’s shout are AOE skills that support the party or debufffoes around you but…

You clearly don’t want to see another kind of shouts. The Ranger’s shout. Ranger’s shouts are basically order given to their pet. So if you imagine a bit what special skill they could give the necromancer while looking at marjory and LS history, we could easily guess that :

Special ability : By specing in the elite trailine necromancer become haunted by a vengefull spirit. By using F2, this haunting spirit feed on your life force and enter in your weapon to deal additional effect.

Weapon : Great sword.

Skill : Shouts . Necromancer’s shout are basically order given to the haunting spirit in exchange of some life force.

From this base, they may give any form to these commands. Be it a kind of black/misty shield of faith to some “Buff us to death” or “Save my life”.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

Be it a kind of black/misty shield of faith to some “Buff us to death” or “Save my life”.

yeah, the ranger shouts are instructions to their pets, but i doubt they will give necro pets, they already got that covered, the specilaizations seem to be about providing something new or different to the class.

The problem with this theory is the role of the GreatSword… Is the Necro Elite Spec melee damage?

if so, it makes sense for their utilities and heals and elite from the Elite Spec to fit that role they trying to fill. Which I assume would be AoE damage. Physicals fit that, umm kits could fit that….conjures could fit that,,,,meditations could fit that, Manipulation could fit.

but how will Shouts address whats Necro’s missing?

As we have seen, the new wells and traps have been somewhat different. So, imagine this :

Elite Spec : Banshee
Skill – Rending Shriek : Damage enemies in a cone in front of you, causing them to bleed. Also adds bleeding/cripple to the next X attacks of your allies in a radius of X.

Skill – Shriek from beyond the Grave : Apply damage, chill and poison to enemies in a cone in front of you. Also add Chill and Poison to your allies’ next X attacks.

There. Close range damage that also has group utility. That would be freaking awesome.

thats not a shout tho. shouts arent cone attacks.

Necro and Mesmer wells function identical, with different effects.

Same with Guardian and Ranger and Thief traps. They all function identical.

this you suggested, completely changes the function of the skill type.

Unique twists on existing abilities. And, good, not cone type? Then make it do damage in a circle around the necro. Boom. Still “melee” damage while also providing group utility.

Also, Thief traps. They aren’t circle-shaped, but still traps. BAM.

And as for “no shout has ever done damage” : And? Ranger shouts simply are commands to the pet. The warrior has 2 shouts that affect the enemy (fear them, make them vulnerable).

The mesmer wells have an “explosion” effect with their last tick, aswell as all doing damage aswell as buffing allies, and also a massive CC-well. Not a single other well has had “true” cc before, but they still get it.

Soo… why again couldn’t they do that (apart from the fact they apparently despise necro so they wouldn’T ever give them something actually good)?

Seems to me, that engineers getting hammer and more tank like traits, that they are more likely for shouts before the necro.

Personally, I found some of the reasons the OP listed as better arguments against necros getting shouts then of actually getting them. Such as no scholar or light armor profession having shouts.
