So I take it; the expansion isn’t worth the money?

That’s not necessarily the case. From every thread I’ve seen about half the people think it is. For example, people who raid, definitely think its’ worth the money. People who enjoy large scale meta events and harder open world zones often think its’ worth it.

The problem is there are entire groups of people who don’t think it’s worth it. This month a patch will be coming out to make it a bit less grindy and that might satisfy some people.

Me, I enjoyed the expansion.

HoT is basically ok. Basically.
My worst offenders are the adventures, they just neither make sense lorewise, are just more jump stuff on a jump stuff heavy map, or are plain annoying and way to hard.
Maps are not really big. Most layers are actually pretty small.
Gating, layering, walls everywhere. Not cool.
Reverse engineering, aka learning to enjoy the expansion when your mastery points rise more and more is not a good selling point and makes absolutely no sense for me.

But there are people who like the adventures and think they add to the game. I like some of them and most of them you don’t actually have to do. The other stuff you have a problem with I don’t…and a percentage of other people don’t either.

That is actally fine. But I don´t like to have an expansion that does not bother me over its due, I would have liked to have an expansion that sweeps me away for weeks or even months. HoT sadly did not do that for me.

Right, but it did it for some people, including most of the people in my guild. Not four or five months, maybe, but two or three months.

The point is, the comment I was responding to said so HoT is not worth it. To some people it is and to some people it isn’t. It’s not just cut and dried is my point.

Here’s simply four things Anet did wrong:
1) Lack of scaling – In Tyria you can solo just about everything. HoT requires multiple bodies to get anything of “real” reward done.
2) “real” above emphasized because of the horrible RNG in this game (stupid simplistic static extremely low probabilities without considering number of times looted for to balance and eliminate the never drop syndrome players experience – anyone ever see Claw of Jormag drop?).
3) Lack of Tiered rewards – Eliminate all time-gating in raids and let people take however long it does to bang out a win and base the reward upon the time it takes. This should apply to meta-events, fractals, dungeons, and world bosses as well.
4) Totally separate skills and traits between PvP and PvE (e.g. you have a whole separate trait and skill set that are completely independent of each other), eliminating the fact PvE suffers from nerfs driven by PvP (it is sort of interesting that you never see the reverse happening).

The drop rates should be higher since you can’t purchase anything other than what jewelcrafters would make. Which really stinks for that profession. Crafting being a viable alternative is good thing, but only as an alternative. I hate forced crafting to progress. Not everyone wants to craft in MMOs. I wish most RPGS single player or otherwise would do away with crafting. It’s artificial content, developer resources would be better spend expanding the game itself instead of putting in crafting recipes. I have most of my professions maxed or near maxed at this point. But it has been one of the least enjoyable parts of the game. If they need a money sink – let me buy the parts and craft in mystic forge.

On a positive note, I do like the fact that you can change the stats on ascended, and it’s not overly expensive. Especially if you have a high enough craft skill.

I agree that some content should have better ascended drop rate. Fractal used to have decent drop rate on level 20, 30, 40 and 50. Now we only have 1 daily with decent drop rate. PvP drop rate is decent, but WvW is horrible and there is almost no ways to drop ascended gear in open world except at two bosses and the drop rate are ridiculous. And there is no drop rate in the new HOT maps either. Not saying that they should all have super high drop rate. But if you have a drop rate of about 10% in fractal which take about 30min to complete you should have something similar to that in other content. Most world boss take about 10-15min to kill so some of the biggest boss like Teq and Karka Queen should have a drop rate of about 3-5% for exemple.

I personally stopped playing GW2 because I played for 3 years and never seen any kind of drop ascended or precursor. Then came raids where everyone wants you in ascended gear, ah no thanks. Rng in this game is horrible and based on repetitious events usually yielding garbage rewards. Done and Done!!!!!

You couldn’t craft one ascended set in 3 years? IF more people playing this game are like you then no wonder the casuals want an easy way to get legendary armour.

The crafting process was fairly easy when ascended crafting was introduced and did not feel like a chore. I don’t agree with the way they changed it to what it is now but if you have been playing for 3 years gaining one armour set through the old method should not have been hard. I can understand not crafting one with this new method as I myself have not bothered to craft one since the changes.

The Expansion didn’t fall completely apart for me. I played the story (and got through the entire expansion in about 10 hours or so), and then stopped once I realized that all other content in the expansion was designed to be repeated forever and ever, for no benefit really, unless you like hoarding items and pretending your in a fashion show. I know some people like that, and defend the game from literally every piece of criticism ever, but, not everyone is like that.

It was easy! :::
1) Farm Materials for hours on end
2) Grind events for hours on end
3) Scour the Trading post for good deals for hours on end

The only thing working against you was time itself, especially if 20 hours of your day was taken by a job or school or raising kids or any combination of those 3 things! Even easier if you somehow had to deal with only one or none of those things!

When I tried to express my concerns about the expansion missing important features and content before it was launched everyone disagreed. I wonder what changed that.. oh yeah right, it was released.

Not saying WoW is dead, but Blizzard now flatly refuse to publish sub numbers.

Take from that what you will.

“Dead” as applied to MMOs is kind of subjective. Lots of MMOs continue to churn out content and remain online even with only a very few number of players.
