With S1 one over and S2 in midbreak, i thought to compile a list to see which questions are out there and which are still unanswered.
I want to use this oportunity to work with all of you together to uncover the “official” explanation to them, if they are (at some point) revealed.

Chances are we will never be able to answer all of them, but it is not like we got all infos in Guild Wars 1.
I will update the list with other suggestions and the answers, as soon as they occour

  • What was Scarlets real goal?*
What was it that Scarlet was out to archieve? As soon as she was about to spill her beans, Braham cut her off. Up to this point we can only asume that she was really “just a puppet” for Mordremoth, but how far the influence reached, if she was able to go another way is unclear. The judgment on this case is still open.
  • Who is Mister E?*
Aside from having a generic pun name (Mister E, Mistery… get it?), we do not know anything about him/her, aside from the fact that he has connections to almost everyone and also knows about a lot. This is highly intruiging, since that was supposed to be the role of the Order of Whispers. He has his eyes and ears everywhere and helps us at the moment. However, what are his/hers intnetnion? Is he friend or foe?
  • What are Kasmeers powers and why does she have them?*
In S1 Kasmeer was stung with something in the Tower of Nightmares . From this point on she supposedly showed an unknown power, right now manifesting in the ability to see if someone is lying or telling the truth.
So far this power was used two times and mostly in a rather arbitary way, which was basic profiling instead some mystic power. Is there more to it?
  • Vision 1: What Scarlet Saw?*
Scarlet entered Ormadds machine and the player followed in S2. Both saw a vision, appeaerently dipicting the Eternal Alchemy as well as the Eldar Dragons and the Pale Tree . Up to this point it is still unclear what they really saw. The PC seems to be sure it shows the dangers of Mordremoth to the world, however as the players we have no idea. What is the meaning of these images?
  • Vision 2: The Pale Trees Vision*
Answer : The Vision showed the Egg of Glint descending towards the Master of Peace and that is supposedly a great asset against Mordremoth. It is still unknown what the golden light is supposed to be
  • Why did Tequatle become stronger?*
Tequatle got a sudden power up in S1 which is supposed to be part of the LS. Up to this date we got no other mentioning or explanation on how that happened. (they said it is not just a gameplay mechanic, it has a story)
  • The Medalion and the true heir*
In S2 they mentioned a magical medalion which shows the true heir of Kryta. Right now Queen Jenna is on the throne, but it is said, that she is not a the truthfull heir.
  • What is Mordremoths goal?*
Does he have one beside feasting? Are his attacks planned, or just the signs of his awakening? Was he guided to the World summit? Who are his allies? Mordremoth in general is still a big mystery.
  • Who or what is Anise?*
And more importantly, how old is she? There are several speculation, however one thing is clear: There is a lot more to her, than we might know.
  • What is the consortium up to?*
Being rather silent the last year, the consortium was introduced as a rival company for Evon Gnashblades Black Lion Company. They are a shady bunch and do even step on boundries for money, but they gave us access to the fractals. What is their next move?*
  • What happened in the fractals laboratory?*
The fractal laboratory seems to be a fractal itself. What happend there? Why oes it reset?
  • What will Evon Gnashblade do?*
After loosing his Headquarters in Lions Arch there are rumors by the traders that Evon will come back with a vengance (and he is still angry at Kiel), which will hit them all. How will it play out?
  • Whats the Master of Peaces Goal and what is the secret of the Zephirites?*
Answer : The Master of Peace had Glints last Egg. He set out to take it to an unknown place for possible safety/hatching. He died in the process.
  • Will Mai Trin and the Aetherblades come back?*
Mai Trin escaped during the the attack on LA. Will she play a role in future developements? What did she have to do?
  • Who corrupted Aerin?*
The mysterious Sylvari who is apeaerently for the zephyrite bombing? Who or what was behind his behaviour?
  • What is the dark secret of the Super Adventure Box?*
The Super Adventure Box was integrated into the world of Tyria with a storyline. What is the secret of Motos machine?
  • What happend to Rytlock?*
Where is our favourite kitten Charr now? He jumped after his sword into the mists. What will he find there?
  • What is Caithe`s agenda?
She stole the Egg and acted way out of character.

These are the ones that came up with right now, if there are more, i will add them for later discussion.

We don’t know if we see the same like her, since the machine was altered by herself after Omadd. We don’t know the time frame the vision shows (at least it doesn’t show the time frame we’ve been into the machine, since the world would look different if the vision affects the whole world)

  • Why did Tequatle become stronger?*
Tequatle got a sudden power up in S1 which is supposed to be part of the LS. Up to this date we got no other mentioning or explanation on how that happened. (they said it is not just a gameplay mechanic, it has a story)

We cannot say for sure that Zhaitan was really alive (aside from he was moving). It’s actually kept open that not just lex lines can get redirected, even elder dragons could get used by someone who knows how (see Snaff). There are a lot thing in the personal story which show that risen are applied to the body of the Zhaitan and that is maybe to spread the corruption further. The risen have a flaw, they cannot use undead and the orrian dragon is an undead dragon, so the only way to use the undead carcass would be to apply a risen body to it to get it moving (Mouth of Zhaitan —> Risen in a mouth suite, Eye of Zhaitan —> floating eye with a risen backpack, final fight blue laser —> some bigger part breaks away from the dragon). The dragon probably wasn’t the source for the risen, it was just a relay used by risen.

  • What is Mordremoths goal?*
Does he have one beside feasting? Are his attacks planned, or just the signs of his awakening? Was he guided to the World summit? Who are his allies? Mordremoth in general is still a big mystery.

Just want to point out the absence of the nightmare court and the missed oppurtunity to destroy Ventari’s tablet.

  • What is the consortium up to?*
Being rather silent the last year, the consortium was introduced as a rival company for Evon Gnashblades Black Lion Company. They are a shady bunch and do even step on boundries for money, but they gave us access to the fractals. What is their next move?*

Interesting with them is that they not just gather money for their services. They collect the local drops and give some stuff in exchange for that, some even without extra payment.

  • What happened in the fractals laboratory?*
The fractal laboratory seems to be a fractal itself. What happend there? Why oes it reset?

It’s called Mistlock Observatory, it observes locked mists. With Dessa’s work there is a possibility that the fractals are either caused by this observatory or that they have another source and the observatory is the fixing lab, but how should it get fixed if we redo any of these events just like they have/may have/will have happened? Why does it reset? It’s a loop with a fixed beginning and end. In some theories about time travel it is possible to stretch the universe into a loop with an anomaly, but it’s always forgotten the the anomaly has to exist even at the point the travel should go to. The fractals are such an anomaly and exist between those time frames at the moment until they are able to leave it.
For what happened there, well there is the great golem rise of the asura, the great gate accident and we don’t even know if Thaumanova caused even more problems (note: the is a giant gate above the reactor). One fractal is even an asuran city which obviously nobody misses or talks about. Sadly there are just too many incidents which probably caused flaws in the veil between Tyria and the mists that we cannot really filter (Actual expectable solution would be: Scarlet stole the plans for the infinity ball, built one for her own purposes and locked intentional some mists because she wanted to wake Mordremoth. Since the mistlock lab wanted to investigate it, she sent it there too to stop any progress, but leaving the feeling that somebody cares about it)

Slow clap for the great puppet player.

What was Scarlets real goal?

It seems to me that while she was corrupted, she was more akin to Kellach than any other dragon minion/champion – in that she was fighting for control, and trying to fight against her new master, while being fooled into doing exactly what he wanted her to do anyways.

Who is Mister E?

We simply don’t know, but we have been told that we will find out who E is by the end of Season 2.

What are Kasmeers powers and why does she have them?
In S1 Kasmeer was stung with something in the Tower of Nightmares . From this point on she supposedly showed an unknown power, right now manifesting in the ability to see if someone is lying or telling the truth.
So far this power was used two times and mostly in a rather arbitary way, which was basic profiling instead some mystic power. Is there more to it?

Kasmeer’s powers seem to just be standard mesmer. I don’t think that her powers are really caused by that scratch in the Tower of Nightmares, because she managed to do a powerful feat alone prior to that (dispelled the veil around the tower) and prior to that action we never see her in action. There’s really no reason to believe she was not-powerful in the first place. If I had to guess, the tipping point for her would have been the Scarlet’s End instance, where she basically goes berserk and starts summoning illusions like crazy. More of a self-made psychological block than any external influence – she did seem unsure of herself prior to Scarlet’s End, and seeing what she did then likely made her realize “wow, I’m better than I thought! I should stop looking so down on myself”. Motivation and self-esteem tend to be heavy motivators on things that are based on willpower – like magic seems to be.

Also, we see her strong powers in more than two cases. While her “ability to tell lies” that Angel McCoy claimed is magic (though in-game is portrayed in a way that standard people in reality use) has only been used twice in the plot, that’s not all of her “powerful abilities”. In Scarlet’s End we see her creating 5 illusions at once – and not even phantasoms. In Trouble at Fort Salma, she spams Time Warp like a crackhead going after the drugs on the table. And there’s the previously mentioned Tower of Nightmare’s veil removal.

Overall, Kasmeer just seems to be a powerful mesmer… which we have plenty of (Jennah, Anise, and now Kasmeer).

Vision 1: What Scarlet Saw?

All we really know is that what we see in S2 is what Scarlet saw. Sadly, it seems Anet’s intent to have a sense of “mystery” in their plot by not telling us players kitten while our own characters are apparently geniuses who get it all instantly but don’t share with their controller. In short: we still don’t know, not entirely, and this is intention, and this is not mysterious in any way.

Vision 2: The Pale Trees Vision

This vision appears to be Mordremoth’s plot’s version of A Light in the Darkness, but a lot more vague because the Pale Tree is weakened. It stands to reason we’ll find out more about it, though maybe not entirely.

The Medalion and the true heir*
In S2 they mentioned a magical medalion which shows the true heir of Kryta. Right now Queen Jenna is on the throne, but it is said, that she is not a the truthfull heir.

Erm, it’s nowhere said Jennah’s not the true heir.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

The locket shows the heir of Kryta, but nothing said that Jennah wasn’t the proper heir – just that for not-explained reasons, the locket is kept in transport between various forts (even non-Krytan ones placed in the wilderness and frontlines, given that it was in the two Timberline forts… which is completely logical to have them there rather than, say, the royal treasury).

The only thing about Ascalon heir in the lore other than Wade Samuelsson being a descendant of the kings is that human rumors claim the “true king of Ascalon” will be able to end the Foefire.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

  • What is Mordremoths goal?*
Does he have one beside feasting? Are his attacks planned, or just the signs of his awakening? Was he guided to the World summit? Who are his allies? Mordremoth in general is still a big mystery.

An interesting question considering Mordremoth’s intelligence…

What we do know of Mordremoth:

-1
Considering his exploitation of the Waypoints and his feeding Scarlet those ingenius plans and his turning Aerin from a knife user into a bomb user Mordremoth seems to be the smartest of the Elder Dragons…..

-2
He controls Jungle Flora…. And yes it is Jungle Flora rather than Plants in general since there is clearly no coniferous tree based minions nor any minions with similarities to Dragon Lillies from Shing Jea Isle or even Echovald Forest’s dozens of Stonescale Kirin and Forest Dragons(Undergrowth and Dragonmoss). This of course may be subject to change since we have only recently seen his minions…

-3
Our first encounter with his minions featured his understanding and mastery over the concepts of Technology while the second encounter showed his power over the Jungle Flora…. He’s clearly an Elder Dragon who is a master of both Jungle Flora and Technology! A deadly combination……

-4
He’s also the boss of the Shadow of the Dragon

-5
He appears to be behind the Nightmare Hounds judging from their similarities to Overgrown Hounds though that’s unsurprising considering how the Nightmare Court’s methods of torturing Sylvan Hounds against the Pale Tree likely strips them of her protection against Elder Dragons which would most likely cause instant corruption into a Mordrem much like what happened to Scarlet when she severed her connection to the Pale Tree….

What we do know of Mordremoth:

-1
{snip} Mordremoth seems to be the smartest of the Elder Dragons…..

-2
He controls Jungle Flora…. {snip}

-3
{snip} He’s clearly an Elder Dragon who is a master of both Jungle Flora and Technology!

Quote edited for brevity, refer to original post for full text.

1. Not necessarily. We have seen other Elder Dragons make cunning plans as well, although it’s sometimes unclear how much is coming from the dragon’s own intelligence and how much from the minion. For instance, to take Scarlet – it’s possible that Mordremoth’s plan for Scarlet actually used Scarlet’s own intelligence to devise, if Mordremoth consciously took part at all. With Scarlet dead, Mordremoth knows what Scarlet knows (and thus has a lot of information), but might no longer have the genuine spark of creativity that Ceara provided.

2. I’m inclined to say that this is just a matter of proximity. If Mordremoth had arisen in a pine forest, I expect we’d be seeing coniferous minions rather than viney ones.

3. As noted above, I suspect any mastery of technology Mordy has came from assimilating Scarlet’s knowledge (as we know dragons do assimilate the knowledge of those they corrupt) rather than Mordremoth having any innate mastery of it. Mordremoth might have no creativity to invent new technology whatsoever – but everything Scarlet knew how to build or use, Mordremoth can provide a minion with the same knowledge. Which is a scary thought on its own.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

Considering Ceara being clearly less intelligent than Scarlet I would say Mordremoth did give Scarlet her ideas despite her claims….

I don’t think any of the other Elder Dragons exploited the Waypoints like Mordremoth did….

Jormag seems to be a cunning manipulator who sways others with promises of power…. And he exploits the portals into the Mists indicating that he is like a sorceror in mentality….

Zhaitan seems like a military general on the level of Vizier Khilbron….. I have yet to see his Risen inventing machinery…..

Primordus seems beastial…..

Kralkatorrik we know little about in terms of intelligence due to him focusing on exacting revenge on Glint and wanting perfection…… His strategies are an enigma considering he’s licking his wounds currently….. Once he is done we may learn his style of conquest….

1) Are we 100% sure that the voice(s) Scarlet heard in her head was Mordremoth? If he was asleep at the time how did he communicate? Why did she had to mess with the lay lines to wake him up? What did she actually do to the lay line? Interrupt it? Why would Mordy wanted to interrupt his feeding and after that he starts to mess up (feeding again?) with the waypoints?

2) Where did Master of Peace went?

3) Where is Mai Trin and what was the important thing she had to do?

We do not know who or what was in Scarlets head.
We know she heard someone and she considered it more or less her master.
however there is no “ingame” confirmation that it was him.

By all we know about the universe it could be a lot of things and till the end we are not even sure what her goal was.
There is still the possibility that she was actually trying to get the ley lines somwhere else and it was just a big mistake that we took her down. Basicly showeling our own grave by unintentionally feeding Mordremoth.

While that might be far fetched, considering the straight forward writing so far, it can still be introduced later, like they did with abaddon (and i might have written him wrong) who had ties to the Lich and Shiro.

Edit: Forgot these things, I will add them.

@Angel: I hope I will be able to cross them off and I hope you will be giving us the right hints and answers to that “ingame”. I have to admit that the mysteries so far did not play the right tunes for me (more hype than pay off so far) and till they are put in the right order, so i can enjoy the melody you want to play i can sadly only hope for a better arangement.

We can only asume most of these things:

1. His Waypoint exploitation does nothing have to do with intelligence. It was established that waypoints are close to ley lines, so him noticing them being close to them and using them to follow the lines (if he isn`tn able to do it on his own… which is another interesting question. Can EDs follow the ley lines and if so, why aren`t they doing it to feed?). The attack on the Waypoints can also just be a side effect. He follows the lines and attacks the annoying buzzing waypoints, like swatting a fly.

2. We do not know if Mordremoth was in contact with Scarlet. While there are hints towards that, we still got no confirmation.
In fact the only thing the enitity did apeaerntly was focusing Scarlets ideas towards a goal, thanks to the vision.
In her holographic diary we hear her loudly proclaiming that it is all her idea and work.
How much of it is true is still a mystery, but we know that Scarlet was a genius and with the right push could have done that all herself. In were able to follow her developement from steam to light magic (or whatever it was) based on a computer programm she created.

3. I so want to see a chaotic christmas tree on wintersday as Mordremoth breaks out of being the jungle dragon and afflict all kind of plantlife.

4. Where did his minions show any knowledge of technology? Did i miss something? All i noticed is that all the intelligence can be summed up in: “there is food, minions get me the food”

5. While the connection between Mordremoth and the Nightmare Court is still unknown, there are hints that there might be a greater one.

I disagree with part of this. While I agree that Kasmeer (and pretty much everyone in Guild Wars – Tahlkora, Gwen, Rurik, Trahearne etc) generally seems to gain confidence as they accomplish more things or take on more responsibilities, I don’t think Kasmeer was ever portrayed as being less than anyone else. Kasmeer’s first big appearance was lifting the veil. I don’t consider it a big feat (there is no context given for why none of the other mesmers in Tyria didn’t do it, just the usual Tyria revolves around the biconics these days) but it’s not a demonstration of someone being less than capable. Had Kasmeer tried and failed, maybe I can see growth, but really she has been portrayed as capable the entire time. Tying her confidence to her accomplishments, you don’t see much of a progression because she always succeeds.

Marjory was the primary source for the idea that Kasmeer is less than capable. She was the one constantly undermining Kasmeer’s presence and abilities by implying that Kasmeer needed protection, that she is “krait bait”. I thought it was a clumsy way of undermining the idea that femininity is weakness (by portraying a capable and very feminine character as strong and increasingly accomplished, disproving the more masculine character who doubted them in the first place) but I guess it was more subtle than I believed. It’s why I thought Marjory’s failure and Kasmeer’s success in the finale was too obviously telegraphed (and commented as much last year when it became clear the audience was being set up for Kasmeer to “surprise” us with her strength). The hardened former guard who doesn’t like frilly curtains got taken out by the villain who went on to be defeated by the soft and vanity obsessed heiress.

As far as lore explanations for NPC abilities goes, I’ve mostly just viewed them as game mechanics and class balance VS imaginative story telling. Kasmeer can summon more clones that other mesmers – is this because she’s a super mesmer or is it because it made for a more interesting scenario during the finale? What about Trahearne summoning many minions? Or Marjory during the Fort Salma even (before she discovers her sister)? Is Kasmeer’s ability to blink across gaps (where mesmers require a path) because she’s a super mesmer or is it because her abilities were changed to give her a role in the story? What about Marjory’s bone wall ability that my necromancer can’t use? It’s weird that most of the super NPC powers seem to come from Marjory and Kasmeer and the not the rest of the cast.

One general obvservation I’d like to make about Jaken’s post is that it almost exclusively covers the narrow view of characters and plots introduced by the Living Story. Guild Wars (and Guild Wars 2) have a lot of plot points that were set up and never resolved. We saw an expansion of Glint’s story with the Zephyrites, I suspect we are likely to see an reintroduction of the mursaat (I now believe that the crystals in the Pale Tree’s vision do look most like mursaat structures) but we are supposed to be seeing a Living World. Many dungeons in the game sets up plot points that aren’t resolved two years later. Does the Flame Legion have a new Imperator? What is the general state of the Nightmare Court and what has Faolain been up to? What’s going on with the dredge factions? Why did Eir bother acquiring the fragments of Adelbern’s sword if she hasn’t done anything with them for two years? How long do the charr/human peace talks go on for? Obviously ArenaNet is limited by how much content they can put out, but the constant introduction of new threat, new plot lines and new characters can be frustrating with the existence of all the plots and characters in the world that have existed since GW1 or the launch of GW2.

Scarlet claimed Mordremoth was taking credit for her ideas for his own…..

Considering Ceara being clearly less intelligent than Scarlet I would say Mordremoth did give Scarlet her ideas despite her claims….

I disagree. From the investigation of Scarlet’s room in Prosperity, she invented steam creatures, steam portals, and aetheric portals before entering the machine. Yes, she went on to invent even more impressive things, but she was building on what she started as Ceara, and it’s not unreasonable that Ceara might have come up with similar inventions without the intervention of the voice that turned her into Scarlet.

It’s also worth noting that it still hasn’t been truly confirmed that Scarlet was corrupted by Mordremoth rather than influenced by some other entity. It’s certainly where the evidence is pointing, and many of the NPCs have come to that conclusion, but it may not actually be the case. Either way, she never became a full minion since she was able to rebel at all… so what if she was partially corrupted? What if she’d ended up with a split personality, with the voice actually being the part of her mind that was fully consumed by Mordremoth’s will, while another part remained independent enough to resist?

There’s also the possibility of different interpretations to the idea of the entity claiming credit for Scarlets ideas. For instance, it might have been (correctly) claiming Scarlet’s plan of action as its own, but the inventions that made it possible still came out of Scarlet’s own mind. Or it might be that the dragons regard all of their minions as part of their own being and thus Scarlet’s ideas were Mordremoth’s ideas, as Mordremoth regarded Scarlet as part of itself.

Either way, we haven’t seen any evidence of anything that can’t be explained through Mordremoth using Scarlet’s knowledge (and it’s well established that dragons know everything those they corrupt knew). Scarlet probably knew of the connection between waypoints and ley lines, so Mordremoth is exploiting her knowledge. If Aerin didn’t already know about bomb-making Mordremoth could simply have fed him some of Scarlet’s knowledge – and even then, Taimi remarks on how crude Aerin’s work was compared to Scarlet’s. And other than that… we really haven’t seen any signs of technological capability from Mordremoth. It could be that it doesn’t have the capability, or it could be that actually every dragon that has corrupted an engineer or two knows about technology quite well, but generally regards it as a toy compared to the magic it has at its disposal.

If we see Mordrem constructing machines that are further developed from Scarlet’s designs (rather than just copying what Scarlet has already invented), then we might have reason to believe that Mordremoth is more technologically minded than other dragons in its own right.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

That`s right. This thread focuses only on the living story.
While there are hundreds of open question (no exagarating) for the whole franchise, i thought it would be too much for me to handle. While I apreciate help to collect them, a sperate topic would be more apropriate.

Another reason for this direction is, that it is an current story and questions coming up here are more liekly to be answered, then questions which are still unanswered today.
Though some of them might come up again within the story so i wont exclude them if the time comes. i mean, we allready have a hint of Glint with the zephirites and the white mantle was re introduced with the backpack Madrew.

Edit: Added new open questions.

I think that all the evidence now points to Mordremoth being the voice in Scarlet’s head. That is the working theory until proved otherwise. The Dragon may not have commanded Scarlet, it could have challenged her, coerced her, lured her into evil acts.

The bigger unanswered questions involve Nightmare. Is it part of Mordemoth’s designs? If not, is there some other force that creates or shapes Nightmare? How will the Nightmare Court react to Mordremoth?

Tequatl and Southsun are most likely to be part of a Deep Sea Dragon storyline. I can’t see much more speculation being useful until we get further updates.

I’m pretty sure that Mr. E ends up being human. Apart from player only other characters contacted by him were human (Kas and Lady Anise ). Kas met him in Lions Arch so I think it’s save to assume he operates there. Also there are no chances that he ends up being enemy. With all good things about GW2 stories antiheroes and theme of switching alliances were never it’s strong side.

Was it ever stated that E is a mister? I’ve seem it on the forum many times but in game it’s just E. I really like the idea of E being Evennia, especially with all the Anise stuff going on (not saying they are the same person).

I reread the relevant part (link for convenience) and it looks to me it can go either way gender wise. Granted E has a deep voice, but that is not a guarantee for a male.

a body came up gently behind me. Arms wrapped so intimately around me that my fight or flight instincts never kicked in. Then, a knife appeared at my throat.

I can more easily imagine this being a description of a female, but as I said I don’t see anything about it that would make your assumption reasonable. Is there anything else?

1) Are we 100% sure that the voice(s) Scarlet heard in her head was Mordremoth? If he was asleep at the time how did he communicate? Why did she had to mess with the lay lines to wake him up? What did she actually do to the lay line? Interrupt it? Why would Mordy wanted to interrupt his feeding and after that he starts to mess up (feeding again?) with the waypoints?

We do not know who or what was in Scarlets head.
We know she heard someone and she considered it more or less her master.
however there is no “ingame” confirmation that it was him.

Actually, we do have proof, but it’s only given to sylvari players.

Yes. In the past, my children have been immune. But Mordremoth’s corruption is powerful, and just as Zhaitan created the undead from so many creatures, so Mordremoth’s corruption can change you.
→ Scarlet?
I believe she opened herself to it when she let down the wall of her mind. Mordremoth’s corruption seeps in through the cracks in our willpower. Do not follow in her footsteps.

She only believes that it is Mordremoth, though. Simply because it is a powerfull corruption he brings.
She also only believes that Scarlet opened her mind to “it” (an elder dragon is generderless, or has no gender.. something to ponder though). This can be a deliberate phrasing, since again, the pale Tree does not answer your question directly.
She is just playing off your thoughts. Something she has done before (She should just come clear already. The world is on the line and she plays mindgames -_- )

I’d say with aether blades and now rytlock in the mists we will either see a daring rescue mission to get rytlock back or he’s taken out maitrin and is now the leader of the aetherblades or they realized the done kittened up helping scarlet and team up with rytlock.

Technically, Jaken, all the Pale Tree is saying she believes to be the case is that Scarlet opened herself to Mordremoth when she (Scarlet) left the Pale Tree’s protection. That is, she’s speculating on how it happened, not what happened.

You are right.
However, it still begs the question if she is sure that it was realy just Mordremoth and nothing else.
While we can asume that this might realy be the case (she appearently knows a lot about Mordremoths corruption, as she can actually put references to Zaithan as an explanation, which means she has actually insights into the workings of Mordremoth… Which opens another can of worms on how tight lipped that tree is… Well it works to get the message to everyone i guess, so a writers compromise?), I am still hoping for another being in the background.
Thought that might just be my personal hopes

@Ukuni:
As we don`t know how the mists really work it could be something that happens, if she is actually in the same Mist-Dimension as him. However i cannot picture Mai Trin as a dimension hopping Air Pirate.
Though it would be cool to have something like that in the future…

As long as we get the answers in the game and not be forced to research external sources, I’ll be fine.

It seems like ArenaNet is breaking their habit of relying on external sources and realizing the game should be the main source of information to players. Not wikis, not websites, not interviews, not telepathic mind-reading. Angry Joe’s review of Destiny reminded me far too much of ArenaNet’s past presentation methods regarding lore, game mechanics and critical game information in general.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzopWRXK_r4#t=692

Seieng how ArenaNet has finally implemented tutorial-mechanics to explain game systems., it seems likely they will remember they need to do the same for the lore.

ANet always had mechanics told and explained in-game during gw1, never out.

Lore, however, always had a strong presence outside of the game, though it was also far more obvious (and never felt very exposition-y) in-game during gw1 compared to gw2, and that was thanks to quests – but events rarely give off lore when you talk to NPCs, most events that could and arguably should give lore are just “we must retrieve the artifact!” Which is about 70% of lore events, such as the one into the royal tombs and the one into the tombs behind the temple of Balthazar – no lore at all to what they’re searching for or who the eye was.

I have one question: what happened to Magdaer? Eir got the sword at the end of Ascalonian Catacombs story mode and was going to give it to a blacksmith so he can fix it, we haven’t seen the sword yet, does it really take 2 years to fix a sword?

When I saw the trailer with Rytlock using a flaming sword and shouting about the Foefire I thought Magdaer would play some role in it, I guess I was wrong.

So what happened to the sword?

It is still in Eirs possession (or the blacksmith).
I think they referenced it in the LS, however they said that it didn`t work out (from Rythlocks point of view).

As far as I am concerned it might be coming back in the future. Maybe as a way to get Rythlock back (twin swords, calling each other, you get the idea).

It is a valid question, though.

The reference it got was to establish that it has no role to play in ending the Foefire. To me, that sounds like it’s being written out of the story.

Wasn`t it that it does not matter which of the swords would be there?
So they do not have to use it, since they have one of them.

Doesn`t sound like it is written out of the story, just not needed for that task.

If it is mentioned it is likely to be in the story again. Anything that isn’t in the story isn’t worth considering (like why didn’t Rytlock go into the tomb with his warband instead of Rox).

They communicated the ideas that Magdaer caused the curse, that Sohothin can end it, and that Magdaer is not part of the ritual to end it. The natural extension of that is that, unless there’s going to be a second Forfire, or we players have to stop someone from causing a second Foefire (both terrible ideas, as far as I’m concerned), Magdaer no longer has any role in the plot.

@Stooperdale The way it was mentioned- just a brief snippet, which when examined only reduces Magdaer’s importance- feels to me like tying up a dangling loose end as a form of closure. It’s not like E or Scarlet’s connection to Caithe or even Scarlet before her reveal, which have all been mentioned in ways that raise new questions or revisit the old ones.

Rytlock believed that Sohothin is the cure to Magdaer’s curse. Clearly we know something went wrong. I don’t think we can rule out its importance yet, just that fixing Magdaer isn’t as easy as it was first believed.
