See you in Tyria.
Mordy corrupted Aloe seeds?
See you in Tyria.
The Charr seems to be Rytlock based on the hair and the horns. I wonder if we will see a corrupted Rytlock…

Scarabs, perhaps?
Don’t know if any of you have seen this on the twiterverse.
No because I don’t use twitter (except that one time for single sign on purposes, but I soon abandoned it to lul around), and of course GW2 doesn’t necessarily feel that it’s a good idea to share these sort of things on multiple channels (i.e. like the front page of their website, this website).
Does look interesting. Not sure about the Rytlock comparison. Definitely a Charr, but the shoulder armor seems different (of course its so small so who knows). As for the http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Aloe_Seed comparison there does seem to be a similarity. Of course it also looks like a http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Destroyer_Crab so maybe it’s just a standing crab-shaped thing.
Scarabs, perhaps?
I second the Scarabs vote. That’s what I immediately thought when I saw it, it wasn’t until someone suggested Aloe’s on the forums that I realised that could also be a possibility.
@cureforliving, any resemblance it has to existing creatures in game is purely because Anet reuses models whenever they can to save resources. So the model is likely based off the model of either destroyer crabs or karka.
i’d guess maguuma spiders, those things were everywhere in Gw1 down there..
mostly because anet doesnt seem to add more than 1 new enemy model a year
First year was Karka
this year was Dust mites.
also because anet loves to reskin spiders for some reason..
Risen Spiders
Cave Spiders
Frost Spiders
Ghostly Spiders
Forest Spiders
Plains Spiders
Spider Spiders
Plastic Spiders
Ghostly Plastic Spiders
Spider gumbo
Spider Salad
Spider Soup
Spider Ice Cream..
Lt. Dan would be proud..

Aside from dust mites anet also added Mordrem trolls and Mordrem menders, mordrem leechers/trashers, Mordrem Teragriffs, not sure about the vines so i’m not yet adding them to the list.
Thats more than one new enemy model added.
GW1 maguuma was just SWARMING with scarabs.
Oh I get it now.
Aloe seeds = Seeds of Truth.
Those things have upright curved tails. Like the mechanical devourers – like scorpions. It’s hard to see due to the camera position, but you can see it on the edge ones.
Plant scorpions.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Looking at the image on my computer rather than phone, and I see those I thought had a curved tail were either two standing perfectly next to each other, or had their rear ends lifted higher than others, throwing off my view.
Looking at it now, those shapes are EXACTLY like Scarabs in GW1. Four legs and a cone-shaped body with the peak at the back.
The dreaded Scarabs of Prophecies belong to Mordremoth now, it seems to be.

If that is Rytlock in the picture (he looks a bit slim to be him to my eyes), he seems to have changed his shoulder armor and is now carrying a two handed weapon on his back. Or maybe he just has a very large left pauldron and bare right shoulder. Either way, his gear doesn’t seem to match what we’ve seen on Rytlock.

What about the teaser image of Rytlock wearing a blindfold? Obviously it doesn’t show that much, but it’s not a far jump to say that he’s changed during his time in the Mists. Also the proportions are similar.

My point exactly.
Corrupted aloe would make sense – there were aloes in the jungle in GW1, and corrupting plant creatures would be right up Mordy’s alley.
That said… That this is getting a teaser image with that caption indicates that there may be a bit more pathos involved than simply being random Maguuma plant life that’s been corrupted. It could be that we’re looking at the end result of Mordy corrupting Malyck’s tree, and said tree is producing these soldiers instead of sylvari.

Most of those are heavily reworked versions of, or at least on the same rig as, existing models. Teragriffs are reworked colocals, leechers/thrashers are on the Eye of Zhaitan rig (watch their animations and you’ll see, I picked it up right away), and trolls and menders are probably both based off regular trolls.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

So… this didn’t end up actually factoring into the patch at all. The reinvigorated cynic in me is betting we’re going to be strung out on these teaser pics until Season 3 starts.
No Rytlock. No corrupted scarabs.
Sigh.
The image looked like they were flowing out of the flower fortress to the far west. So I’m guessing that’ll be E8 stuff.
