Hoelbrak has been presented like Cavalon among the Luxons (for those who played GW1). It’s just a really big meeting place, but not as many norn live there full time – in the same manner, the nomadic Luxons meet at Cavalon to do trade and share stories, but don’t live there and in fact seldom stay there for extended periods of time.

So while Hoelbrak is huge, it’s more of a trading center for most norn (regardless of what they’re trading) that doubles as a social center to get together, party, drink bear, and tell stories. Those who live in the area live on the outskirts – in Shelter Rock and Frost Basin.

I wouldnt call it a city in the way the other cities are but its about as close as the norn have gotten. Theres alot of differences to Cavalon too.

Firstly, unless Ive got this wrong, Cavalon wasn’t much of a perminant settlement. It was rarely as populated as it was when we go there in GW1 and thats cause the groups had gathered.

Secondly, Cavalon didnt really have a central leadership or police. Rather, it was more a shared campground.

Thirdly, the Luxons are pretty nomadic. The norn certainly move around alot but they arent really nomadic.

Im not really saying the Norn are becoming as unified as the other races but they are starting to get a bit closer to it. They need to learn to be more unifed to survive. The norn have never had anything like Hoelbrak before.

Hoelbrak is no different than any of the homesteads you find out in the various Norn areas; in essence it is not a city but rather Knut Whitebear’s home. It might become a proper city soon enough though, with more and more refugees settling there recently.

Cavalon was permanent, but you’re correct in that it wasn’t always populated. It’s primarily a meeting place for the Convocation tournament, and acts second as a trading center for Luxons.

And yea, norn are fairly nomadic. There are norn who settle down, but most keep moving (like Knut’s wife).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I also find it interesting meeting that theres a norn in Lion’s Arch who seeks to biuld his legend not through hunting but through working as a dockworker. His legend to him will be built around the shear amount of work and physical labour he acheives. Its an interesting way for a norn to work his desire for legend into something else.

As far as I know, this has always been true for the Norn – while hunting and combat is an easy and common way to build a legend, it’s not the only way. One Norn in Hoelbrak talks about making his legend by counting all the snowflakes.

You have others who are great artists, great bakers (there’s a conversation in Hoelbrak between two fathers – one wants to trade the bread his son baked for the venison the other’s daughter hunted), great smiths, great explorers, etc.

It’s really anything that can be considered ‘legendary’ and will get you remembered, since the goal is to achieve immortality through fame.

And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”

Radio Isotope? If you want more about Jormag not covered . . . peer deep, deep into the past and look up “The Nornbear”. You’ll see pretty much where this all began.

As far as a Norn version of Trahearne, it would probably be Knut Whitebear, the Norn racial “leader”. He’s the descendant of Asgeir, after all, the one who cut out Jormag’s fang. Aside from that, we might have some new character appear as the one to finally shatter the Fang and, from that, go on to be Jormag’s slayer.

I don’t see it being Knut. I see it being one of his sons. Sigfast I think is the one who mentions doubt into just sitting around waiting for a hero. He wants to take the charge now.

Knut’s secretly training Wolfborn to fight icebrood, according to Whisper agetns in Hoelbrak, and according to Priory scholars in Hoelbrak there is an old song that’s believed to be a prophecy of Knut’s death. Sigfast is also sent by his father to Caudecus’ Manor for that party that’s interrupted by Separatists, so that he can experience more of the world.

I bet either Knut’s preparing a small elite unit for his son – with or without his knowledge – or Knut’s going to kick the bucket, prophecy style, and Sigfast replaces him in leading the charge.

I was going to say the same, one of Knut’s sons, leaders of the Wolfborn, might be the better bet to lead the charge.

They too have Aesgir blood, are young and have experience leading a force.

But I don’t think Knut is going to die. I think all leaders of each capitol are safe. Now if both brothers march to war, I can see one of them dying and that enraging the other one.

It could be an interesting plot twist if one of them breaks the fang and later when we though he was the chosen one, he dies. That surely would be a shocking outcome and force some strategy to fulfill some second prophecy in the middle of the campaign making the story more interesting and less predictable.
