Fractals dungeon players restricting others.
They reset weekly afaik
areyoukiddingme?
you want people to do another run of 1hr to catch you up?
That is what guildies are for, also people will be leveling alts up and running the dungeon with them.
So the saved level is per character and not account? I hope so.
No you can only go as far as the least far person. I cant believe you are complaining about this.
I knew this was coming.
- Right now I’m a ranger so that’s going to hurt any chance of getting in to a party and I currently just don’t have the time.
- Later I’ll still be a ranger but I also won’t have agony resist.
- I also don’t have a guild (or enough friends who play) that will devote huge chunks of their time to catching me up.
That’s why I probably won’t ever run fractals even though it sounds fun.
Right…. Fractals only go to the level of the lowest player
If you fight and fight and fight evantualy your going to hit a wall
the only way to lower that wall is to play with a new player who has not done them yet or has done less than you
It scales to the lowest common rank.
Say party consists of 5 people:
Person 1 has run it 20 times
Person 2 has run it 15 times
Person 3 has run it 2 times
Person 4 has run it 2 times
Person 5 has run it 8 times
It will be a rank 2 instance, and everyone will get another notch in their belt. Basically having low rank people helps you up your rank faster by doing easier runs. I dont see why at this point anyone would turn away a lower ranked person.

1. So start your own group and advertise it as a lvl 1 group. There will be a ton of people running this thing for the first time all weekend.
2. Rangers are completely viable in PvE…..in fact, pets are actually valuable in PvE. Why wouldn’t they want you? If they don’t want to play with you just because you’re a ranger, you can probably find better.
3. Find a guild. Trust me on this. This game is much less lonely with familiar people to chat with and it’s also much more fun to run dungeons like this with a group you are chatting with. Find a guild and try it out. If you don’t think you are a good fit, try another one. I was hesitant at first as well (I’ve never been in a guild before) but I ended up loving my guild and the people in it. Find a guild ;-)

So if you re run the set of 3 at a rank lower than you have completed you can move up to another rank? That seems fishy since you could get really high by doing the easy runs, although you still wouldnt have agony resist.

Sucks for you I guess, it is REALLY hard to join a guild, I know.
Well yeah totally, I was spamming Difficulty 3 only in LA, and all these people with difficulty 1 joined, we had to kick them. So annoying.

My understanding is that it’s not “get a rank every time you do a set,” it’s “your rank is the furthest you’ve gotten.”
So if I do the level 1 fractal thingy 10 times, I am still only going to be able to start at level 2. Whereas if I actually do levels 1-10 instead of just repeating 1, I can start at 11.
This is going to make things so kitten ugly.
Maybe they should maket things add up so you get 1 point for each level 1 cleared, 2 points for level 2 and etc. In that case, it won’t be a waste for someone in level 2 to run a level 1 again since you can run 2x level 1 to get score for one level 2. If your final destination is a higher level, they won’t make much difference.
Its not a waste to re run, you still get drops and 5 stones, eventually people will hit the agony wall and be slowed down.
Frankly, I am surprised some of you didnt complain that people leveled faster than you and wouldnt come back with you to level up.

Um, no, it measures progression, its not an exp gauge. You only get to level 5 by completing level 4. No point tagging along with lower difficulty level players.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”

Only way I can think of making this as smooth as possible for people is having people actually go through the portal in LA first and goto Dessa’s lab. At that point, you can now recruit people who are in your level to play with. Maybe add a portal to goto the next level down to recruit for a lower ranked dungeon.
In the dungeon’s current implementation, it will get elitist real quick.
EDIT: Also, add an indicator somewhere in the HUD what level you are specifically all the time, like a mini-map overlay or on your Hero panel or something.
if it comes to that, you’ll have to start your own party.

I don’t see the problem. The players at higher levels spent a significant amount of time to get there in order to get better rewards. If you want the better rewards then put in the time.

What about 6 months from now when most of the people have higher ranks ?

By that timethere will be a new dungeon that will make this one obsolete. Or at least everything so far points to it. Even if it doesn’t happen, it won’t matter anymore, because the runs will be “ascended eq only”.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

thay will eventualy hit a skill wall thay just cant pass
thay will need lower level players in order to go to lower level areas to get more gear
It’s just heroic grinding Guild Wars 2 style with this mechanic serving as your gear check. It’s not even cleverly disguised. They’re turning the game into World of WarCraft piece by piece. Actually, not even that game is this much of a grind.
Don’t get me wrong, the content is genuinely awesome. It’s just that the mechanics which facilitates and gates that content are some of the worst I’ve ever seen in this genre. ArenaNet needs to review their MMO history and while they’re at it I’d implore them to check out their own manifesto.
That’s the whole point of this update. So that casual players (and anyone playing a ranger) can be kept from playing and the hardcore basement dwellers can stroke their kitten and feel better then us (and I guess actually be better thanks to the far superior stats on these new items).
Here it is Anet. This is the game you strived so hard to make. Here is the crystal clear vision of people working together in harmony. Always on equal footing, never worrying about arbitrary numbers locking people out of content.
Here is what you have built.
I hope the ends really justified the means.
It’s funny, because a LFG tool where people can list the level they want to run would probably be really useful overcoming this issue.
Oh well, at least there are new gambling boxes for sale in the gem store, hey. Time allocation at ANet is all but perfect.
It resets every week, so there’s not going to be some point where everyone’s running FOTM difficulty 350 and you can’t join because you don’t run it much.
This has cheesed me off big time. Gone are the days when everyone and anyone was welcome in a GW2 PUG. Grrr.. The elitist gremlins are multiplying as I type this.

This guy, right here. +1

Valid point, I’ll make sure to bring that up at the next Dungeon Runners meeting and remind everyone to slow down because we’re leaving other players behind. I think we’ll realize that sometimes it just takes people half a year to get familiar with content and we really need to make an attempt to drag ourselves down to accommodate you.

Where did you get that information from ?
Because I really want to believe it.

What about players who don’t buy GW2 for 6 months ?

Ha, touché sir!
Guilds, friends, and I’m even confident there will still be PUGs available to join/create.
There are also people who don’t have the time to grind farm it who may want to log on for a little bit and run a set of fractals. I don’t think you will really have a bad time getting a group. I am a ranger, and yeah, I ran it with a guild group but I actually felt I was contributing in some of the fractals, especially the swamp one which is hideous. I was using traps, aoe’s, entangle etc to help our wisp runners have a clear path. I was better at it than the other classes we had. Woohoo! lol Don’t give up. You don’t want to go with the snobby elites anyway!
Anyone who didn’t see this coming, including ANet, does not understand human nature.
Well, they did see it coming, that’s why not having a gear check, the power creep and gating was an integral part of their game design.
Or so I thought until very recently…

Don’t forget, all the people on low population servers get really screwed over. Right now since its an event, it is really easy to get on the overflow. Come Monday, most low population servers will be back to business as usual and getting a group to do fractals will become tougher, forcing people to join mega guilds or we might start to see the birth of hardcore progression guilds ( ala WoW )
Get it taken down -
Do whatever it takes if you care about this game -
Anet needs to make it were you can two and three man these dungeons. Finding groups to run dungeons is hard on my sever and if you can get a group going and a couple die they will leave and then you’re screwed. That’s one thing i liked about gw1 is you didn’t need a lot of players to get anywhere.

And yet all it would take is for players to say “Ok, I’ll help you out instead of focusing solely on myself. Remember this attitude, and pass it on to others.”
That’s probably too much to ask, though. Players these days are, as a general rule, selfish.

Hows that selfish. We’re protecting our own interests. I only have 24hrs in a day and so do you, I don’t want to waste my time on YOUR character progression.

I’ll never get to do this kitten then as I do not have a machine that supports dungeons too well.

Definition of SELFISH
1: concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others

I’m not sure where the confusion is stemming from.
What others are talking about is a thing called “Paying it forward.” Someone, somewhere, sometime, gave you your first chance at running it. It wouldn’t kill you to do the same for others now and then. Sub-optimal does not equate to useless or wasting time for nothing.

Cool, you go do level 1 over and over again with a different bunch of new players each time then. Won’t stop you.

I wouldn’t worry about it because the fractal difficulty is just hard enough that if you want a sure bet at finishing, you start at 1 anyway, especially if you’re not confident in the skill of your fellow teammates.
You won’t be able to only run fractals forever either due to the quirky nature of each fractal scenario that makes it hard to farm, plus the fact that fractals gives you no karma (which it makes up for a bit with obsidian shards, but not at the current karma farming max rate). Therefore, it will be PUGed just like any dungeon.
Last night I already saw a guy post his first 100 Fractal-dungeon tokens in map-chat.
So this is just the beginning, within a few weeks you will be left out if you have no proper infusions.

Next year: I am new to the game. I want to do this fractal I’ve heard about. But I’ll never be able to do one because people like you will say: I don’t want to do the lower leveled ones anymore, go find a guild. But, aren’t you in a guild? What if you had a new guild member that wants to do a lvl1? Do you also say: find a guild?
Are people seriously complaining that others are doing things on an increased difficulty level? …and wanting players who are experienced on their teams?
You can do Tier one over and over again if it gets too hard for you.
Do you also complain about the PvP rank system, and how you “can’t get in a group” because nobody wants to pvp with someone without any pvp rank or experience?
this is catering to the people who LOVE elitism in all those other MMOs: Gear gaps, forced segregation by mechanics such as the OP stated, and all that is now name of the game. I guess the people that love the “Raid or Die” models are enjoying their new found mountain to stand on too belittle the peons at the base of it for the lols…but I don’t. It’s awful and changed this game for the worse. But that’s just my opinion. Worthless, I know.
Well, there’s my two cents. Now infract me. Delete this post for not exactly being totally on topic and not praising this game and it’s choice in direction; infact I expect it now.

LadyRhonwyn is SPOT ON. This is a sure way to seperate players and bread a load of content and resentment.
I’ve sat in LA trying to get a group for half an hour now but just about everyone wants level 2+ only.
Hm, it is called a massive MULTIplayer role playing game. I like to do a lot of things solo, too, but isn’t the feature to play things with other players together the one which distinguishes games like GW2 from games like Skyrim?
Don’t misunderstand me: I am strictly against the ascended gear tier and the beginning gear treadmill (so far it is not really a treadmill, but the threat is there now), but to argue with “I want to play alone” seems not adequate to me, when the subject of your criticism is a multiplayer game.
Seeing nowhere to support people saying fotm resets each week, I can easily see people getting stuck at certain levels. Unless you will hit an agony wall, and actually beneficial to go to lower scaled with other players. Which doesn’t seem to be the case, because the loot will get better higher the rank is. So why go lower?
Example: Mostly everyone (guild or pugs) is at rank 15, were your at rank 12… but pugging rank 12 is pretty much impossible because most people that are decent are at rank 15. And if you can’t get people to go to lower ranks, your SoL.
aka, harder the dungeon gets.. harder it is to pug.
