I really hated this activity until it got changed to 4 players per game. Then, I got to love it. 8 players were too many, you couldn’t do anything with people killing each other trying to get to the top players.
With 4 players, the other 3 could team up and chase the top player. It was much more better.
Now Crab Toss is terrible again, back to 8 players. Any possible reason for the change?

Yeah, i gotta say i love crab toss, but with 8 people it’s just waaaaaaaaaaaay too crowded!! they should really make it so that it’s capped out at 4 or 5 players, it’s easier to know what’s going on, and more importantly, it’s not a total cluster kitten.

I didn’t realize it was ever changed to four players, but that sounds much more interesting than with eight, since it’ll be easier to tell what’s going on without everyone getting in everyone else’s way.
I mean, it’s okay at eight, but just too chaotic to ever feel like the game is developing a dynamic, so I quit playing. I’d have revisited it had I known it was down to four players. o_o

I know if you play pretty late at night not many people will be in the matches, nothing to do with the cap but more to do wtih people playing it..

I don’t believe it was ever changed to 4 players. More likely that at certain points there are less people playing and thus you don’t hit the max number.
I had a game a couple weeks ago where it was just me and one other person (and the other person had been in there alone for quite a while, since his score was over 100 just for carrying).
I had no idea it was ever changed to 4 players either. I suspect Electro and Durzlla are right; it’s just a case of playing at an hour where there aren’t as many players and less people joined the match.
It’s undeniably true that if someone has an early lead in Crab Toss, having more players around makes it more likely that person will retain their lead since everybody scrambling for the crab just spreads points around and nobody catches up to the leader.
When I did it last night, it was 1 player.. me :-\
Ran around, 300 points, won a chest!
This was a huge improvement over Keg Brawl the night before, where again just me sat there and the game never began :-(
I did make a smiley face out of all the keg barrels though…
