There is a difference between doing hard/challenging content, and giving awesome rewards for doing that, and placing a well liked item behind RNG.
RNG means somebody could get two of them in a week, while another farms the event constantly, every day that it’s active, and gets NOTHING. That isn’t appealing at all IMO.
If you make it so there is a set reward, IE, complete this challenging task and get this item, that’s fine. If you do a “Oh, well this drops from that challenging boss… On a very small chance…” that’s not as cool IMO.
I just don’t like the “hard” part. Make it like the classic LW meta achievements, sure, that’s fine, but don’t lock it behind something that’s a huge PITA like the Liadri fight. I would prefer RNG, or even the gemstore to that. Ideally though there would be multiple paths, so that people who are good at tricky content could just do that, while people that just enjoy doing normal open world content would have a chance of it dropping that way, or could earn it by collecting event-specific tokens, and people who just can’t be bothered could just buy it for gold or gems.
“If you spent as much time working on [some task] as
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
