Right, you can be hurt by splash damage or direct damage that began before you were stealthed. This is how stealth has worked for as long as I can remember.

It’s more noticeable in BF because we glide so much and (seemingly) every Mantle and their brother and sister have long-range attacks. With a short-range attack, there’s a very short duration between the attack and being hit; with a super-long-range attack, such as we ‘enjoy’ in BF, the delay is really long — so it seems as if we are getting hit while reliably stealthed.

In other words, there’s no bug — instead, we the odd nuances of the old mechanic are simply a lot more noticeable.

(This doesn’t address whether ANet should or should not make a change — it’s not clear how easy it would be to maintain some counter to stealth without making it worthless against high density of foes with long-range attacks.)

That doesn’t address the other issues …

Except the bug where they’re attacking at ranges 10-20x their normal aggro radius.

Or that the rocks ignore LOS and will literally fly through a mountain to hit you.

I teleported to Ground Zero Waypoint. My goal was the Leyline which goes straight up. I jumped into the air, opened my glider.. and within HALF of a second, I was hit from three enemies. Before I reached the Leyline there were another two. And when I was gliding up IN the leyline, four more rocks hit me and I was dead. its NOT funny.

I just experienced the annoyance of the White Mantle. I jumped off to glide and I was shot out of the sky before I can even glide. 9000+ health to 0 in less than a second.

It’s gotten to the point, at least for me, where I accept it as a fact of nature or an act of god. It’s something that happens when you fly. Sometimes you fall, sometimes you die. Waypoint and try again. I don’t bother evading or stealthing anymore. They’re pointless activities. I don’t even notice the rocks anymore. Rather than being some kind of mechanic that would bring some challenge and more fun to gliding, it’s become a background cost to flying in BF. I don’t think that’s how anet envisioned this working.

Depressed resignation isn’t something a video game should make a person feel.

The course of the White Mantle’s throwing rocks is just amazing: even if you turn behind a rocky hill they will still find you and kill you. There is absolutely no way they miss. Are we sure they are rocks and not missiles?

Whoever thought this is funny has a very bad sense of humour.

They might as well just make the patriot rocks glow bloodstone red to “explain” why they can do what they do. Considering we’re stuck with being shot down effortlessly we might as well be able to see the things coming from more than a few feet away.

The White Mantle must have one of the best shotput teams in the world. I can’t even see them fire and I get knocked off my glider constantly. Sometimes even after landing and going behind some rocks, I still get hit because the heat-seeking rocks still have a lock on me.

Are we sure these guys are human? They are more like mobile missile turrets.

Engi player (sometimes) here. Would like next elite spec to be White Mantle Knight so I can have 20k range turrets with knockdown and homing.

I have to laugh when you port to Ground Zero Waypoint for jades, jump off, glide to the middle of the crater and then close the glider to drop and they kill you as you fall down through the air at terminal velocity.

Try this and turn your camera to look up as you fall, you can see the rocks turn 90 degrees from horizontal to straight down to home in on you haha.

You just need to refine your strategy a little. If glider 5 is on cooldown (the cd is VERY short), drop out of the sky briefly, then redeploy, hit glider 5 to evade the remaining projectiles. If you have stealth you can avoid new projectiles targeting you by immediately stealthing after glider 5.

As an additional protection, if you have any passive stun breakers (traits that break stun automatically) you essentially get a freebie. The rock hits you, knocks you out of your glide, but you’re able to immediately redeploy instead of falling until you break the stun and potentially hitting the ground before you’re able to.

How well do these methods work in practice? Well, yesterday I spent a couple of hours doing the dailies and participating in events all over the map. As I recall, I was knocked out of the sky by a rock exactly once in that time. My passive stun break kicked in automatically, I redeployed the glider immediately and kept on about my business.

Once you get the hang of it, the rocks aren’t a significant issue.

I don’t think you understood my post.

I’m talking about being hit and killed while falling at terminal velocity after I close the glider and simply drop to the bottom of the crater. No glider deployment after the initial glide to get from the WP out into the crater, which is done with stealth. Then the rocks that were thrown at you horizontally as you passed by the Mantle turn 90 degrees in mid air and hit you as you fall.

The other funny thing is when you get downed, your ranger pet appears in mid air with you.

I don’t have any of the other glider skills.

Just gonna throw my two cents down in agreement with the OP. The range on the White Mantle snipers is a bit over the top.

To make it more inane, I’ve occasionally seen those magical white mantle hammers go sailing by as I’m flying. Those things don’t seem to change course to follow you… and they’re magical! But rocks..

My experience is those “homing missiles” goes even beyond a player’s maximum attack range which is really annoying, and you can only dodge at a limited time.

For consolation, at least they do not attack the mailer pigeons. It will be very annoying if they shot down the pigeons selling your items to the TP.
