I have a very big gripe, and its been my solitary gripe since I started playing last year. How come all us other people didn’t get a chance to play Living World season 1? You made it available to buy season 2, or if you were here (like I was) and were able to unlock it..

I just ponied up for Ultimate of Thorns, and I’d like to know when I can play the missing giant slice of story I am missing to lead up to Season 2 of Living world.

I don’t know if anybody else feels that its extremely disjointed to go straight from killing Zhaitan to randomly racing after people I don’t know doing things I have trouble understanding.

Yes, yes, I know I can go to the Wiki and read all the backstory. But where’s the fun in that when I could be Living it?

even if we can’t experience the same events in the same way getting some instanced story missions for season 1 would be friggen great atm it really breaks immersion to go from killing zhiatan and skipping a whole year worth of stuff and getting a whole bunch of people calling you “boss” as if your old war buddies that you have never met before.

The reason Season 1 isn’t available for purchase yet is because S1 had many large-scale group events (invasions of Scarlet’s alliances, Marionette, Battle for LA etc.), different map instances (Kessex Hills when Tower of Nightmares was still standing, the LA inferno, karka invasion etc.) and because Anet were still experimenting with the Living World concept back then (the content wasn’t meant to be replayable).

The developers hope to include S1 in gem store one day to bridge the gap between Personal Story and S2, but they’ll need to reorganize the stories to turn them into cohesive chapters and to make the group content soloable first, and that will take coding time, money and manpower.

There have been some good suggestions from some of the players on the forums on how to turn S1 content into S2-like chapters and organize said chapters under thematic story arcs with a good balance of story exposition and battles (as the original releases were somewhat uneven content-wise), but we’ll have to wait and see what direction Anet will take with reintroducing S1 into the game. And considering how busy the developers will be with Heart of Thorns and the future continuation of later Living World seasons, we’ll likely have to wait for a replayable S1 for quite some time.

It wasn’t designed to be repeated. That’s why you don’t get to play it. It was a flaw many saw coming.

This thread pops up every week and it really boils down to it being so different and tied to festivals/dungeons/instances that no longer exist, they’d have to re-do it all – a huge amount of work. The Battle for Lions Arch and Tower of Nightmares were amazing at the time, but that LA nor the Tower exists any more. It would need to be -redesigned in a new instance for s much much smaller group, rather than a full coordinated map

But the living world season two should give option to new player to introduce with “them” (kasmeer/braham/rox) and should not call us “boss” on first meet. if u know what i mean.

When you start a book or TV series in the middle of a series, are the readers/viewers given a recap of who everyone is? What they should do is write a recap that can be viewed within game of the events that occurred during Season 1.

Season one was a series of festivals. Party’s over.

As everyone said above me, season 1 wasn’t like the usual story and season 2 missions like going to point A to start a mission and once you finish it, go to point B to start start a cutscene etc.

Think of season 1 as a great big event like the world boss, anyone can hoped in and it became a farming zerg fest for the most part. The difference is that it competely changed the map where the event took place but it was only temporary.
Ok sure there were some temporary dungeon but only the boss and part of if remain in the fractal (and Twilight Abor get to keep theirs).

Well… they must maybe do this for occuped people during the development of HoT.

And, just why they not do something in the Fractal you can play past Event ? (I know they try to do something like Season II for the I but big event like the Twisted Marionet will not be the same with a little group :/)

If they don’t want this to impact the experience of new and returning players, this must be addressed as soon as possible since the expansion is coming out and it will become a greater mess.

That was bad example. Of course we can flip back to the first page and read again and we still can replay again TV siries if we want right?. well still viewer/reader can know and experience from the beginning. i bet u may say the same like us if u in our shoe

Read what the poster was arguing for and that I was posting about. I’m all for a re-release of an instanced version of Season 1 or at least some in-game summary for players that did not get to experience it.

I wrote out how I would return Season 1, after I had gotten some praise on a short-hand off-the-top-of-my-head suggestion posting a long while back.

In all honesty, bringing back Season 1 doesn’t seem as hard as people make it out to be. Most of the open world events are not relevant to the main story and are little different to the open world events we got with Season 2. Most of Season 1’s main story is still told in the open world like Season 2, with only about 10 idle placement of NPCs – half of which are previews (like for the Tower of Nightmares) or epilogues (like for Flame and Frost) which aren’t needed to be brought back (and if thought it should, a simple instance similar to Rallying Call – a combatless dialogue-only instance meant solely to push players into the next direction – would do).

The ‘zerg events’ only became a part of the Living World in three of the last five releases (Origins of Madness, Escape from LA, Battle for LA) – sole exception being The Lost Shores. Before that, they were zerg events because that was ‘the new thing’ – not because they were designed for zergs. No different than the zerg that showed when Dry Top and Silverwastes were new.

Yeah, it bothers me to the point where I will not buy HoT until season 1 is released. I play the game mostly for the story, and it’s kind of unplayable for me with so many plotholes and questions because I did not have the time to play most of season 1. Again, no wiki or youtube summaries please, playing them yourself is much more immersive and enjoyable.

I don’t disagree. We’ve stated before that we hope to one day rebuild LW Season 1, but we’re focused on HoT development right now.

And to note: I’m not saying it’ll be easy to bring back Season 1 just because there were so many instances. The instances of Season 1 were done in multiple formats (4 different formats I believe), none of which are like Season 2/Personal Story, so it’s hard to say – especially as players – how much work would need to be done to change it from instance format A/B/C to instance format D.

It’s quite a bit of work, actually, to convert the Season 1 content into something that resembles the Season 2 format. So while we’re fortunate to have some pre-built content to start from we’d have to make a lot of changes for it to fit the revised LW model.

But all the assets are there. Dialogue, plot, voice acting, even the intended scripting. Arguably, it might just be a case of rescripting into a new format with some programming for said format. But as a player it’s hard to gauge how much work that ‘case of rescripting’ might be.

My hope is that, should we take the opportunity to bring back Season 1 in some form or fashion, that we’d get the opportunity to make improvements like we did with the Personal Story restoration (revised VO, maybe some new or updated camera flythroughs or cinematics, etc.). I want to be clear, though, that we have nothing to announce at this time. Just being totally honest and managing expectations here.

HoT will release before they even start on reworking living story season 1, if they even decide to do that. I don’t expect LS season 1 to be reworked and released until at least 2016. But by all means if you want to deprive yourself of new content because old content isn’t available, then do so. The rest of us will be enjoying our Revenants and hang gliding around the jungle.

Really they should just mention an approximate time for S1 arrival or at least update us on its progress if any, am logging in for daily only now just waiting for S1. I did play season 2 for the sake of my friends (Quit the game for now waiting for S1), so I just ran along not paying attention to most of it and left out last episode as I wasn’t interested because its simply all confusing and disappointing.

I bought HoT thinking S1 is coming either along with it or shortly after to find out its not, I don’t mind supporting the game as am also using Gem Store still hope for S1 to make it otherwise am not sure if I will stick around…which is too sad for me. I keep checking this forum as well.

Lore is the strongest aspect of GW games, mess it up and what is left is no too very appealing at least for me, specially with promising MMOs out &/or on the way. (Playing SF right now and having fun, lets see how long it will last before I loose interest in GW2…again).

Please Anet, your first priority should be S1 after HoT to keep a smooth and organised transition from personal story to the rest of the game for returning & potential new players.

They did update us in a thread. It hasn’t been started yet, so there is no further news to give.

I wouldn’t mind playing through it again as I have missed a few things because of internet problems and so on… Missed a few achievements and probably alot of items I could have got.. If you want to just see the story. AyinMaiden on Youtube recorded everything since GW2 started. Theres a whole Season 1 playlist on her channel.

If they made all old achievement attainable (bar monthly and the dailies you missed, obviously), i’d be the first in line to buy gems for the purchase.
Bringing the old content back as instanced, toned-down versions where all the challenges are still there – looking forward to it much more than to the new expansion.
