Without Taimi the asura would never have come to the summit and without her the wp network would be in ruins, yet you claim she is lucky she didn’t get locked up?

Had it not been for her the ntwork would of been destroyed there ould be nothing left of it, also it would be noted that no one elese in rata sum or outside of it thought it a wise idea to come up with such a device, if anything she did a heroic and wonderful thing for her people and yet she got treated like a stupid worthless child having a trantrum when a person of authority demanded she give up that device after all her hard work without even a thank you for saving their network from a elder dragon.

Like I said it just Anet using reality over fantasy thing again.

In the real world the government will do this if they deemed it necessary for national security.

Taimi is lucky to not be locked up not for hampering their national security but because she is a bit smarter than most Asura her age. The Asura counsel knows if the Inquest or another enemy obtains Taimi and use her knowledge those people will use her knowledge to jeopodize national security.

The issue around this event was the ideal of National Security vs Personal Rights.

If a person create some kind of advance technology that can threaten national security the government has all rights to take that technology away from that person.

Nah. You have to prove that I or else my work is a threat to national security. In Taimi’s instance, she saved the asuran waypoint network with her work.

How is that a threat to the interests of the asura? She’s a good kid and a major credit to her people.

We live in different places you and I. That, or else our ideology is as different as night and day.

If it were up to me, i wouldn’t have let Taimi on the team, nor would any of the current members.

Taimi is smarter than the average progeny, but in no way smarter than some of the adults. So the things Taimi did, another Asura could have done it faster and more efficient. In no way would we be walking to another WP right now.
It is so, because Anet wrote Taimi in, not because other Asura weren’t smart enough.

Taimi has on several occasion proven to be both irreplaceable and dangerous to the team. Do you really want that device in her hands when she decides to throw a tantrum? The device can now be examined and upgraded by older and smarter Asura.

While i did not like the way it was done, but it was the right choice.

Has anyone pointed out that Phlunt’s removal of Taimi’s device is not only a legal move, but one Taimi knew about? I think I remember her mentioning that because she wasn’t in Rata Sum the law shouldn’t apply?
Phlunt seems to have a stick up his butt, but I think his position as Councillor (read: dealing with other asura as a job) put it there. He did the right thing by confiscating a supremely dangerous device from a child that was willing to get herself and her team wiped from existence, just for Scarlet memorabilia (hot kitten , I spelled it correctly).

I wonder if Taimi’s marvelous rescue of the waypoint network where no one else could, might have something to do with the fact that she had exclusive access to a roomfull of Scarlet’s research notes pertaining to ley lines and whatnot.

If we’d said “No Taimi, this stuff is all going straight to Rata Sum where capable adults who are masters in their fields can look it over”, we might have had much the same end result, without us needing to babysit Taimi in the process.

You assume that had she sent all scarlet’s research to these specialist that they would of come up with it faster……

News flash the asura in rata sum didn’t even consider it a issue until they got reports of vines grabbing and destroying wp on the network and only taimi understood the severity of danger Mordremoth. Only a few asurian in the field actually added in the this weeks patch that were not inquest might unserstand the danger of the dragons minions.

Otherwise like most ADULTS she was ignored and the only reason that she that councilor phlunt was even interested that was because her mentor Zojja mentioned that taimi was in the works in making a device to help save the wp network.

Otherwise especially in act 1 of dragons reach it was made clear that phlunt that and his arcane council guards that were with him not only find it annoying to deal with taimi but also made it clear that they had no love for zojja.

They made it quite clear that if it was not for the fact she might have something of extreme interest to the arcane council in rata sum they would not given a two hoots what taimi or zojja are doing.

From what I got they could care less if she was being mentored and only when she has something they wanted that they pulled the mentor card and stole the device as a stipulation to going to the summit.

Shady is all I can describe phlunt and his arcane guards not once did they care about taimi health or happiness but whether she had something of value to them.

To me that is mirror of the real world how adult treat each other, not that acts of a mentor but that of a adult using their power to get something they should not of gotten freely.

Honestly I wonder if the people that talk down on her would do the same if she was the same age as zojja, even our team makes it clear to keep quiet on future research and study so we would not have another incident like we did with taimi device reaching wind to the arcane council.

That it was clear had our player characters had not helped her the device would not of been finisih even at a decent pace, it was clear from the beginning that they were interfering with her finishing what was a vital project not only for her but for her people as a whole.

Phlunt like a few selfish player races tend to do whatever is in the best interest of themselves instead of the tyria as a whole. Rarely do these groups care about tyria as a whole and if it was not for our team and us players I am certain great doom would befall tyria.

You assume that had she sent all scarlet’s research to these specialist that they would of come up with it faster……

We will never know, because the greedy kid kept everything to herself. It’s funny how you baselessly accuse Phlunt of being greedy while ignoring the utterly obvious greed of Taimi.

News flash the asura in rata sum didn’t even consider it a issue until they got reports of vines grabbing and destroying wp on the network and only taimi understood the severity of danger Mordremoth.

We didn’t consider it an issue before we saw vines grabbing and destroying waypoints, so that says nothing about the asura in Rata Sum.

Otherwise like most ADULTS she was ignored and the only reason that she that councilor phlunt was even interested that was because her mentor Zojja mentioned that taimi was in the works in making a device to help save the wp network.

No, Taimi told him this herself. And what a surprise, a man working for the ruling council took an interest in a kid that claimed she could make a device that could remotely mess with all the waypoints in the world!

Otherwise especially in act 1 of dragons reach it was made clear that phlunt that and his arcane council guards that were with him not only find it annoying to deal with taimi but also made it clear that they had no love for zojja.

Some people don’t like some other people, what does that have to do with anything?

They made it quite clear that if it was not for the fact she might have something of extreme interest to the arcane council in rata sum they would not given a two hoots what taimi or zojja are doing.

From what I got they could care less if she was being mentored and only when she has something they wanted that they pulled the mentor card and stole the device as a stipulation to going to the summit.

That’s not true. You should read all the dialogue in that chapter. You either didn’t, or you have a very selective memory in order to help you paint Phlunt as a bad guy.

Shady is all I can describe phlunt and his arcane guards not once did they care about taimi health or happiness but whether she had something of value to them.

That’s also blatantly untrue.

That it was clear had our player characters had not helped her the device would not of been finisih even at a decent pace, it was clear from the beginning that they were interfering with her finishing what was a vital project not only for her but for her people as a whole.

We helped? Oh, right, we carried some stuff. Maybe Phlunt and krewe thought such undertakings are better performed in a proper environment, where you don’t need bookah to go through the trash for components.

Let’s forget Taimi for a moment. There’s something else going on here that a lot of people seem to have overlooked.

Phlunt agreed to go to the council IF the device was demonstrated to his satisfaction. It was, but then we were attacked. Enemy monsters literally burst from the ground at our feet and attacked. Phlunt and his guards were all cowering off to the side while we saved them.

Phlunt had now seen the threat first hand, AND seen that we had a device to help save the world. His reaction? He backs out of our deal, and insists that HE be given the device or else he will not attend the council. That council is an attempt to save the world from the threat he just got a small taste of. If we don’t get his help, we’ll likely fail.

In other words, he is blackmailing the Commander of the Pact (that’s us), holding the lives of all of Tyria as hostages to get what he wants.

And we LET him.

By the end of the story he’s still not giving us solid support, even after the attack on the Grove. Worse, we’ve handed him what may be the most dangerous weapon in all of Tyria. Yes, WEAPON. All of the waypoints are now “attuned” so the dragon can’t sense them or feed from them. With that device and a few modifications, he can “de-tune” a waypoint, basically calling in a dragon vine attack where ever he wants. And he’s already shown the strength of his morals (none).

If you listen closely, you can hear Scarlet giving us a slow clap from beyond the grave.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

People really read to much in all this.

1. Taimi is a child and so Phlunt’s keeping the machine in a controled envirorment arguments make sense. Even though his motivation is that he is a thiefing little ****.
2. This is perfectly aligned to Azuran politics. If you played the personal story as an azura worst things are happening there.
3. You do not scorn off or kill(???) an ambassador of a race you need. So what? Issolate a whole race when there is a dragon comming over an intellectual rights dispute? Thats the option that makes sense?
And if you did that and the azura came anyway then it would just be bad writing and a meaningless option.
4. You did not help Phlunt take the machine. You just compromised to his wishes because of more important things (sth that Taimi also did the in the end). And to me this is as herioc as going guns blazing like a Tyrian Rambo or sth.
5. Taimi has a patent pending. She will be able to fight Phlunt’s claims later if need to.
6. And finally its just one invention she made as a child. She probably has hundred of these in her future. Its not the end of the world for her.

He doesn’t steal it. He had every intention of going to the summit and letting Taimi keep her magical plot machine before, as others have pointed out, it caused evil monsters to burst from the ground and try to kill everyone in the room. After he almost dies as a direct result of the test, he changes his deal to include the confiscation of what he sees as an exceptionally dangerous device. He isn’t very wrong to see it like that.

It’s not like Phlunt is twirling his mustache and tying Taimi to the train tracks. He explicitly states that she can have it back when she graduates.

Who said he would have to be in the same place as to force evil plant monsters to come out of the ground, remember the device can work on the whole network as in thousand of mile away without being anywhere near said waypoint.

As someone else pointed out it was blackmail against our player characters after he went back on his original promise, as well as stealing from a genius like taimi that had good intentions.

I have played several different version of asurian personal stories and trust me there many nasty asura outside of inquest that take someones personal device even adult asurians devices and go and do nasty things with them.

While we only have his word I can say given phlunt track record we likely will pay for letting him have that device sooner or later.

Yeah, like tying Phlunt up and dragging him to the summit by force would help your cause SO MUCH.
Parental instinct should not impede common sense. I had it against Taimi since she ran into the Omadd Brain Scrambler like a kitten, and now you want me to cater to her tantrums and sacrifice the support of the asura race?
The best thing that could be done is explain to her that we must get a promise to attend from him and assure her that we’ll get her invention back eventually.

I so not like having a shady guy like phlunt, blackmailing me, yes I want the asuran race on my side, but I have also seen how they try to blackstab each other day in and day out….

If it wasn’t for the inquest or just regular asurans backstabbing each other quite often I am certain they would of gotten much further along technology and power base wise in this world.

See I want them on my side, I however do not want to be blackmailed by one of its arcane council members that has shown he can change his promises and backout on a moments notice.

He reminds me of a child not getting his way, my way or the highway attitude that I really urks me in a wrong sort of way.

Taimi aside I think some adult asuran act just like him, like spoiled brats that won’t do whats best for our world unless given exactly what they want, and even then ready to pull out and run at a moments notice if things don’t pan out the way they hope.

Honestly I want their knowledge and technology on our side but at the same time allies like that are rarely very reliable.

Not to say on a individual bases that there are not exceptions or really great asurans like zojja or our player characters but as a whole a a lot of asurans give me a bad taste in my mouth when dealing with them.
