With the post about Living World Season 3 (LWS3 hereafter) in the near future, I have some questions that, as far as I can tell, haven’t been officially answered. If you don’t bear a red ANet tag next to your name, please provide sources for your answers.

1.) Will LWS3 require Heart of Thorns to access?

2.) Will LWS3 have the same requirement as previous seasons to log on during each chapter to open it, or pay for the unlock later?

3.) If the answer to 1) and 2) are both yes, will logging on during each chapter be sufficient to unlock it even if I don’t have HoT, provided I purchase HoT later? Or will any chapters released before I buy HoT automatically come with a price tag once I do buy HoT?

1) it would make sense if it does since you can’t do the PS story that leads into LS3 without having HoT.

2) That model worked well for them, I’d expect it to stay in place.

3) I’ve been asking this since early after the expansion announcement. I sincerely hope that the unlocks are free for logging in timely whether or not you own HoT.

1) Yes. This got confirmed quite some time ago, though I don’t recall where exactly.

2) Yes. And I believe the current plan that all future LW seasons will be like Season 2 in release format.

3) Seems you will need HoT to unlock.

They answered #1 at the same time they announced the expansion so long ago.

Saw this, but it’s not exactly clear, because the answer to #1 is yes. Will we be able to log in to tag a particular chapter if we don’t have HoT, and then get access to it later when we pick up HoT?

If not, wouldn’t they be pretty much certifying that any current players without HoT will never pick it up? I’d think they’d want to keep that door open to current players, rather than having the cost of HoT steadily rise with each LW chapter released due to having to pay to unlock them on top of finally purchasing the “expansion”.

That to me clearly states that if you dont own expansion you wont have free access and will have to pay for it later down the road, when you get the expansion.

So get it now and dont pay for further story or hope that the reduce in price later is greater then then the cost of how ever many story episodes are released.

You can also wait until they release the 1st episode of LS3 before buying HoT to see if it’s cheaper then. Decide when the episode is released, in the past we have had 2 weeks (sometimes longer) to log in to get the episode for free. I don’t see the 2 week free thing changing.

ANet said many times, mostly during there POI and other live casts that the next living story will require you to have HoT. Hence why people have called HoT a DLC season pass over a “true” expansion.

Because the “if you own HoT” may just be the provision that you can’t play it until you get HoT, not that your log in won’t count toward unlock.

I bet you won’t even get to the place on the map for unlocking unless you have HoT.
If you could it would be a bad business move by ANET, and they don’t do many of those (Gem store staff excluded because they screw up all the time).

You don’t need to go anywhere to unlock LW season episodes. You just need to log in on a character.
