Will the toxic alliance remnants ever go?
It makes sense for them to still be around. Their leaders were defeated so they have no real impact (now), but it wouldnt make sense if they simply disappeared.
Why did the molten alliance disappear then? I don’t see molten invasions around anymore.
Plus, those guys are a real pain to see not to mention to fight. Seeing them with their “hey look I’m acid shiny green so I’m poisonous” colors and let’s start the disco lights makes my eyes bleed every time. Seriously, It’s like seeing kittenstains on the beautiful painting that is tyria.
LS2 will probably tell us more about the alliances and tidy them up at some point.
The reason they are still around is allow us to have a small chance to gather the toxic spores for our recipes. They is no other reason but a farming source (and well regulated in Anet’s eyes). Also each toxic offshoot is a good source of veterans and elites for monthlies and dailies and also its a group event for dailies. Why wouldn’t you not want it still around?
You’ll all regret saying you want it gone when you need it most and its not there anymore.
I can’t wait to see complaint threads about not enough Pristine Toxic Spore Samples to make things.

Trust me I won’t. This is how my eyes feel every time I’m so unlucky to stumble upon toxic guys:

You blow up a giant poisonous tower – there will be fallout (in this case spores) across a wide area.
Also, the main reason they did what they did to Kessex was so that the zone had a unique identity. They were’nt happy with kessex as before the tower it was basically just queensdale 2.0, and kind of boring.
Now the remnants of the tower and toxic alliance give that zone a unique identity, which was intended. It’s probably the only place that will experience a permanent reminder of LS1 in the world, as they’ll eventually rebuild or clean up LA.

I feel that the Toxic Spores should not have been confined to just Kessex Hills. The destruction of the Tower of Nightmares spread the spores far and wide on the winds, with the result that every single open world map has at least one or two Toxic Seedling nodes. It thus rewards farmers who like to go roaming across the entire map.
Eventually the Tower’s wreckage is cleaned up and the last of the Toxic Alliance defeated or slain, but the spores from the Tower could remain difficult to eradicate for generations to come.
@Zaxares tobad i can only +1 that once …
And i do not mind the remnants of that tower there in any bit, surely Anet will find a way to build LS1 into DLC and by then it will make sense exactly what it is and why it was there, more then likely not thinking about why it was also there during low level experiences.
The Toxic alliance foes how ever? If they didn’t die in the crash of the tower, we would surely have been able to defeat the remnants by now. And with the tree and scarlet gone (and thus likely also the alliance), how would they even be able to keep appearing… and for what purpose ?

I’m tired of running into the off shoot events in lower level zones, and I’m tired of the wreckage reducing what was once a pleasant zone to a garbage dump. It’s time to dissolve what was already an unlikely alliance now that they’ve got no guiding force keeping them together, and it’s time to clean up all the crap mucking up Kessex Hill.
I feel that the Toxic Spores should not have been confined to just Kessex Hills.
All four zones around the Kessex hills can spawn toxic events.
Yeah, I know, but I was referring more to the general Toxic Seedling clusters that just show up in Kessex Hills without needing to complete an event first. (And even so, getting one measly Toxic Spore for completing an event seems like an insult.)
Short answer probably not. Unless they eventually get their own zone. The Toxic Alliance just as the Aetherblade pirates and the Molten Alliance are still in existence, because of things working behind the scenes apparently.
I believe Matthew was alluding to the fact that we didn’t detail out any specific leaders, other than the characters you met in the weapons factory.
So, I will say this. We have been going on the premise that the groups working with Scarlet are not the main population, but splinter groups. It’s not “The Nightmare Court” who has allied with the krait, but a sub-group of them. Faolain, for example, is not allied with either the krait or Scarlet. We have not publicly detailed out who each of these groups is or who their leaders are because we didn’t think that was something the average citizen of Tyria would know. If you’re really dying to know the answer, I can look it up in the next couple days and post something about it. But, they won’t be characters you’ve met before.
First of all of this indicated there are still leaders of each of these major alliances we have yet to meet. Even after Scarlet death they may be still around with their own working agendas.
4. Why do her alliances…continue working with her?
Each has its own reason.
Krait: They’ve been warped by Scarlet and the Nightmare Court. By the end, the scenario had changed. Scarlet proved she could bring back a prophet to their satisfaction (whether it was actually a prophet or not, no one really knows, but the toxic krait believe it was). And they can’t exactly go join other normal krait. How do you think regular xenophobic krait would feel about these toxic ones?
Dredge: They want power and magic. This group of dredge see an opportunity to add magic to their repertoire. Given their history, this would be a huge feather in their caps. Besides, how often do you get the opportunity to atomize a city like Lion’s Arch? Now that’s fun!
Flame Legion: They want technology and power. This group of FL is taking a huge risk. If they can go home with awesome swag, then they’ll be welcomed, but if they can’t, then they’re likely to be killed the moment they arrive. A large body count (especially the charr and human ones) along with whatever weapons technology they manage to acquire is an inspiring reward for them. And, they get to say they helped bring down Lion’s Arch. They hope to be lauded as heroes when they return to the FL.
You will, of course, have noticed that the three alliances don’t work in very close proximity to one another. There’s a reason for this.
You’ll also have noticed that Scarlet was extremely elusive in the tower of nightmares. Can you imagine why?
I’m quoiting this vital information about the alliances because it’s found outside of the game. You need a good amount of guesswork to figure out this stuff out. Ambiguous indeed. However some of this information about why they still continue work with Scarlet, seems to also imply that this is how it would work without Scarlet being around. These splinter factions simply can’t go back now to what they did before signing up with Scarlet.
Believe me I am not happy with this either, but whatever let them to create more throw away lore. Or in their words, “malleable explanations of what might have happened.” Because you know we will never meet these leaders. Since loose ends and having overly ambiguous plot lines seems to mean your an artistic prodigy within Arena Net own hallowed halls.

The toxic krait were a rebel faction among the krait who broke away from the main to follow Scarlet in hopes of enacting the birth of their prophet. That all ended rather poorly for them, but they can no longer rejoin the krait because they are perceived as being tainted (which I guess they technically are).
In the case of the dredge and flame legion they could still reintegrate back into the main forces, so when things fell apart they just went back home.

Well they do have a finite number after all, the krait were stuck but the nightmare court could return to their faction. Unless the toxic krait discovered a means to restock the troops. However the reason why they keep reappearing is probably because they have no where else to go. Probably sticking to the course.
Would be something interesting to explore in one of the LW patches.

I completely disagree with the concept of removing content. However I do feel that them being group events and/or time limited is a bit annoying since you have to wait for other people and if no one shows up in time it just stays there.
This is someplace where they could add a dungeon to the living story and it wouldn’t bother me. Basically, you track down the hiding place of the last remnants of the Toxic Alliance, and end their threat once and for all. The dungeon has spores you can harvest throughout it (which requires you to fight what’s in the area if you want the spores, no skipping) to make up for their removal from the rest of the world.
You destroy some leftover device of Scarlet’s that they’re using to launch the spores, and they stop appearing in the outside world.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

+1 except for the removing of the open world events.

What if they replaced them (maybe not in the same locations) with a new kind of event?
Come to think of it, I wonder if Mordy can corrupt the spores and mini-towers?
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Yeah, I know, but I was referring more to the general Toxic Seedling clusters that just show up in Kessex Hills without needing to complete an event first. (And even so, getting one measly Toxic Spore for completing an event seems like an insult.)
And on top of this, can occasionally harvest the pristine spore node more than once, or it can give you multiple samples in one harvest (I recall getting 3 samples from one once, and even 7 another time, though it’s obviously rare to happen). There’s really no need for the mini tower events anymore, as only the Vigil mortar one is reasonably doable, and in the time it takes, one can just go hunt down the nodes instead.
They ARE really weird and annoying, but mostly because they just seem crazy out of place in most of the places where they exist. The changes to Lion’s Arch and the current vine situations at least feels somewhat like part of the world, the toxic areas are marked by enemies and activities that clearly don’t belong in that spot, not to mention a GIANT ugly icon that mars the map.
And they’re in Queensdale, which is even worse considering that’s a starting area, it’s easy to start a brand new character and suddenly wind up in the middle of something that can wipe you even at level 80.
Yeah. The Toxic Alliance mobs are noticeably tougher than the normal mob types you encounter in the map. They were designed to be more challenging to level 80 players, given their unusual mechanics, additional skills and their cooperative AI. A lowbie who first runs into them in Queensdale is likely to get slaughtered by them when they run across a Toxic Offshoot event.
Well at least they provide a use for bought finishers if you don’t wvw/pvp.

I actually liked that aspect of fighting them, though it took me some getting used to. While I wouldn’t want everyone to do it, I would like to see more enemies using the downed mechanics.
And yes, I actually bought some finishers to use just on them. I don’t PvP, but finishing off one of them with a small Megalaser is fun.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Screw Lion’s Arch.
I’d rather wanna clean up kessex hills and make it the way it used to be.
It was the most beautiful map in the game, now ruined.
Oh my goodness, I completely agree with this… I keep asking myself that same question every single time I have to go to Kessex Hills or run into a Toxic Offshoot and mobs. As someone who has not enjoyed any of these Living Story events (and tend to die many times every time I try, even with a level 80), it gives me quite a headache and, quite frankly, mars my enjoyment of the game as a whole. I doubt any complaints will change ANet’s mind, as they had done quite a number of changes to the game that ruined aspects of play…
