$400 GW2 Computer, is it possible?
Can you provide us with your current system components?
It could be that you can also save, because you don’t need a new power supply and so on.
Maaaaaaybe for your interests it’s enough to start with replacing your cpu, graphic card and RAM…
Maybe.
A brandnew system is not the solution for everyone. I understand that. :-)
Last year there existed a pretty good website where you could choose between different cpus and video cards and it told you how well gw2 should run on such a system.
That’s how I decided on which components (cpu/ video card) to focus. I didn’t look for the cheapest one, but I also had to stay realistic with my financial situation. That way I was able to buy something affordable AND it is enjoyable enough for me.
Can’t remember the name of the website. Maybe someone else knows what I am talking about?
OK so this topic has gone on for a while now soooo.
If ur thinking of buiilding it urself then this is what i recommend. its as cheap as i could go whilst keep the CPU top notch and the GPU good enough to handle medium settings.
What u will also need is the CD/DVD player AND ur hard drive from inside ur current computer. Oh and ur Windows operating system can be transferred over/ reinstalled so u dont need to buy another copy.

Price is roughly $570 ..for that price u will NOT find a computer anywhere near this good. A prebuilt system with that CPU and graphics card will be around the $800 mark ..so ur saving a bunch building it urself.
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |
If you already have a decent video card you can try the i5 3350P processor, it doesnt have a build in GPU and you cannot overclock it but its the same processor as the i5 – 3570k and it cost only around 180$
You can buy a decent video card for 120$
And you can play this game on settings High
Lisamee ..those 2 computers linked run a 6450 GPU ..waaay to underpowered for GW2.
Its a much more logical choice to save up more money becouse trying to build a, or buy a prebuilt, rig for $400 to play GW2 is gunna give u a rig that will barely last a year b4 needing a whole new one again, and wont run GW2 very well to boot.
I am using the : iBUYPOWER Gamer Power WA501D3 Desktop PC with AMD FX-4100 Processor, 8GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive and Windows 7 Home Premium.
With NVIDIA GT 520 Series Graphics and 1GB dedicated graphics memory. And it runs GW2 and all my other new games like Skyrim, and Sims-3 very well. It cost $498 when i bought it 2012.
Building your own PC is really quite easy, most everything that gets put in has its own spot and you can’t really screw it up. And you really do save quite a bit building it yourself, plus give yourself option for upgrades. A few google searches on how to do it and you will be fine. Also, make sure to read your motherboard manual. Plus, installing Windows 7 is a breeze so no need to worry about that bit.
If you are worried about the cost of Windows 7, I know that many colleges in the US give you have access to free software which often includes Windows 7,8 etc. I don’t know if you are a college student or not, but I am sure you may know one?
King Arcturus X~80 Ranger | Suki Serra~80 Thief | Count Charon~80 Necro | Regulus Leo~80 Ele
HoD since launch
It may be easy to build a pc but getting the right connectors is alot harder..
like making sure the cpu has the right socket for the motherboard
making sure the gpu is PCI or AGP
you can use websites that will show if they are compatible to help if you have trouble..
just wanted to point that out as if you know how to build one already you kinda forget new people to the trade might mis order parts with the wrong connection.. I did first time buying a cpu
upgrade the video card to the 1GB Nvidia. you should be good.
$418
even better!

full tower. upgrade to the nvidia card for $52. + you can customize as you get extra cash.
btw…you can go through the list. -$40 for a mid tower. -$20 for standard fan (do you need extra fans?). =$415. upgrade to the nvidia 630 4GB =$491. <-—before shipping & insurance. i got the 3 yr. you don’t have to.
free upgrade to 800 watt power supply. then you can play with it. get what you “need.”
good computer. i have an ibuypower.

Is your $400 budgest so stringent? For $700 you have many more options. I suggest you save up or wait for some of the parts to drop down in price.
Sorry to say but your low budget will kill your rig sooner than you would suspect. These parts are not meant for gaming and their longevity will be affected; which might mean that you will need to cough up twice the price.
Are you talking about the parts solar linked? and like what about 550
The rig he listed is decent and it is around the $700 mark. I was generalising that a gaming rig for $400 won’t last you as long as you would like it to because the parts are not designed to work hard for prolonged times.
A decent gaming rig starts at around $700-900 mark. Anyone willing to play games on a rig that costs less than that is considerably shortening the PCs life span.
Why risk it? Save up some more and getting something better and that will work more efficiently…and build for its purpose.
P.S. This is the kind of rig I would like http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/CMNm

uuuuuggggghhhhhh!!!!!
sorry mate
How much could i save by building my own PC?
The more expensive of a rig you go, the more you will save in building it. You can also customize it for your needs.
I think this was the cheapest gaming PC on tigerdirect http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2546170&Sku=C447-12001
Roughly a similar barebones kit (better CPU, slightly worse GPU) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7544705&Sku=B69-0694 + $100 for windows (and $20ish for an optical drive). Just keep in mind not all barebones kits are created equally. A decent amount will leave out video cards, some will leave out HDD, optical drives, ram, etc.
If you go down this path, definitely research into it a lot and watch those 3 videos I sent you earlier. Right now, go with AMD CPU and Radeon GPU. They are better for a budget, however the quality is with Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPU.
