Kevyn Sorbo – Guardian
[Agg]ression of Jade Quarry
It’s becoming increasingly frustrating to me that there seems to be no way to reset npcs in story quests, or am I wrong? I realize I can reset entire quests.. but in some story quests this literally makes you lose 30-45+ minutes of random escorts, dialogue and running around. I’m doing the battle for fort trinity right now and I’m taking back the docks… after running around killing stuff and playing through the event I’m a good 25 minutes into this and suddenly all my npcs decided to lemming themselves into a wall of risen… killing themselves and now I’m stuck in a position where I can either keep throwing myself in there trying to resurrect the 2 out of like 15 that are able to be resurrected, or restart the entire thing from the beginning. I’ve tried death to reset them as well, but to no avail.
It would be very nice if clicking ‘restart from checkpoint’ actually restarted the entire event from the checkpoint and didn’t force a restart of the entire quest. Unless I’m completely missing something, or this is a bug, or something, in which case please feel free to point out the error of my ways and how a reset of npcs can actually be accomplished. Thanks.
I was in the position to find myself in a mission where all the npc’s died too. I used pull and kite techniques to take out the mobs one by one, and then I went on with the mission.
Problem is I can’t pull the mobs in this event one by one. When you pull one of the risen that needs to be killed, it pulls all of them, even from the other side of the area. It basically means I can start by pulling 1 but within 10 seconds there are exactly 9 of them on me. No clever use of game mechanics is saving me from this, and I consider myself fairly skilled when it comes to kiting.

Good one.. Remember Gw2 is all about skills not firepower.

Skill is always good, though it doesn’t help at all in this case. I still had to restart the entire bit of the story from the beginning, this I decided in favor of bugging the mobs out in the water, which was the only way I could separate the large pack. Point still stands that it’s really annoying that ‘restarting from the last checkpoint’ doesn’t actually reset the part of the encounter you’re on, just your character. It has ruined a lot of the story elements for me because of the frustration of having to redo entire areas and skip through dialogue.
Also should be noted this isn’t the first time this has happened to me, it’s something that has happened a few times on my mesmer’s way to 80.
