Q:

Hello!

I am going to be buying certain tools from the gem-store, though I have several questions.

1) Is the product given to each one of your characters per mail or only one?

2) What are some of the best products on the store (must-buys)?

3) Does anyone know how many ‘Gems’ path of fire will cost on the store?

Thank You!

A:

1) Is the product given to each one of your characters per mail or only one?

You only get 1 of each item, but many things are account wide. For example if you buy a bank tab you will only receive 1 tab in total but all your characters can use it. If you buy anything which goes into the wardrobe like armour and weapon skins, mini pets, outfits, glider skins, finishers etc. then you will be able to use the Hero panel to equip it on all your characters.

So it’s only things like the non-wardrobe toys (riding broom, bobble head lab, harp etc.), infinite gathering tools and bag slots which are really character-specific. And you can always put the items into shared inventory slots to easily share them between characters.

(With the bag slots be aware that it only upgrades the one character if you delete them and make a new one in the same slot they will not have the extra bag spaces, so it’s best not to get them until you know you’re going to keep the character.)

2) What are some of the best products on the store (must-buys)?

Everyone has different answers to this. There’s nothing you absolutely need but many things which can be useful.

For me the most important things would be a few extra characters slots, a couple of bank tabs, 1 of each of the infinite tools, shared inventory slots and if you don’t already have it Season 2 & 3 of the Living Story.

I also buy a lot of cosmetic stuff – outfits, gliders, finishers, mail carriers, mini pets (especially mini pets) etc. There is absolutely no need for those, all they do is change how various things look, but I really like having them.

But I’d strongly recommend not buying anything just yet. It’s August which means the anniversary sale is on and over the next few weeks many things will be discounted and new items will be introduced. Think about what you want to get and then check the gem store daily to see what’s been added to the sale, you might well be able to get stuff you want cheaper or better items might be offered.

3) Does anyone know how many ‘Gems’ path of fire will cost on the store?

The expansion itself will never be sold on the gem store. The Deluxe upgrade (which just gives you some extra items) is 2,400 gems.

1) Depends on the item, but usually only one.
2) Highly personal, but to me Copper-fed Salvage-o-matic, permanent gathering tools and Shared Inventory slots to hold them.
3) The expansion will not be purchasable with gems. Only the upgrade from Basic to Deluxe is.

Answer for number 1:
It’s vary…
Things like bank expansion and material expansion also living world story is account wide.
Things like bags expansion, salvage o matic, and gathering tools, is per character.

Answer for number 2:
- Copper Salvage O Matic is a must, you can only carry 25 item per stack (250 for mystic but only use it for rare or above)
- Silver Salvage O Matic (When there’s a special event, it’s the same as mystic salvage but unlimited)

Others:
- Living World Story
- Expansion Upgrade

Answer for number 3:
PoF Deluxe “Upgrade” is 2400 gem

You can not purchase Path of Fire in the Gem Store. It is a cash-only purchase. You can, however, upgrade a Standard Edition of Path of Fire to the Deluxe Edition of Path of Fire in the Gem Store.

I would not agree on Salvage-o-Matics being the best thing to purchase in the Gem Store, but all have their favorites.

I would suggest holding onto any Gems until one is more familiar with the game and your personal needs/desires (in regards to the game).

Good luck.

This! Don’t rush into spending the gems, wait a while to figure out what you have need of!

Specific example: I play a lot of different characters, so Shared Inventory is really good for me while bagslots (per character) isn’t really a good buy.
Someone who really goes for the single main character, bag slots for that one is really good, while shared slots is really weak.

On the other hand, some things give you benefit right away, and the earlier you get them, the better, like infinite gathering tools. Or you struggle with inventory room for months before you finally decide to upgrade. Those even intertwine, you start with little inventory space and also carry around stacks of gathering and salvaging tools. In my opinion, it’s smarter to spend 4k gems right away on those things instead of playing several weeks without them before you make a decision. That is if you already got the gems anyway, and don’t buy gems for 10 bucks per months.

I have quite a lot of gemstore upgrades.

Nr 1 would be shared slots (Having convenient item SHARED on all characters is just to valuable. No switching stuff via bank, not having to buy multiple sets.

Nr 2 Copper fed salvage o matic (this wins so much time, and inventory management, also, with shared slot all your chars have this!)

nr 3 A set of 3 gathering tools. At this time, i would only buy unbound magic tools, unless ‘the looks’ of tools matter more to you then the income. These tools all give unbound magic on swings. For plants/wood, there is no other tool that gives extra ‘loot’. For minin there is the watchwork minin pick, that gives sprockets (1-4 silver, depending on the market demand). Unbound magic tools also has a discount (sort of) because it’s 300 less gems, then if you buy other tools seperate.

4) Bag slots for your main character (you start with 5 wich is 100 slots), but with the lots of loot etc, i recommend expanding to 160 (3 extra slots, wich 3 bags of 20 slots).

5 Royal terrace pass or something similar (like mistlock sanctuary). This is a handy all in one spot, that also faster gives you access to a portal to all 6 cities. Allmost all npc’s that you sometimes need to talk to, are in that place (craft stations, black lion npc, mystic forge, repair stations, etc.

6 STuff after this, is less important, not so much ‘must have’ imo. It certainly would add to the game (like skins or even more character slots), but it certainly is not must have.

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

If you just want to throw some money into the gemstore, I will list in order of importance of essential gemstore to buy before you get any skins, outfit or whatever:

1. Copper Salvage O Matic
This will help you to farm without hassle. You can burn through all your picked up loots of green and blues into materials and save some money on the go. This item is not intended to an extend it balances back profit like unlimited gathering tools, but a convinience and wont slow you down searching for merchants to buy salvage kits. With shared inventory slot, it helps you a lot.

Protip: Right click on your salvage o matic, and click salvage all blues and greens. Saves you the clicking. Rares should be salvaged with Master kits and not with copper o matic.

Put this in your Shared Inventory Slot so all your characters can use it.

2. Bag slots
Often GW2 known as Inventory Wars, this is due to the fact of micromanaging your godkitten sigils you salvaged. More slots means more loots to carry and sell them at TP.

Protip: doing WvW can give you badges, and with those you can purchase a WvW satchel bags with 20 slots for cheap+Badges.

3A. Any kind of VIP pass
Passes like royal terrace, airship or mistlock can grant you access to vip area with a VERY short distance to run from crafting stations to TP, to merchants and to banks. Try levelling your crafting at black citadel and you know how painful it is. Buy the two week pass (150 gems, like maybe 50 gold) and you can try it out if you like it. Permanent ones are not often sold at gemstore, be ready with 1000 gems if you want a permanent pass.

Remember you need another Shared Inventory Slot to share one pass with all your alternate character, since you already use one with Copper O Matic. But I believe buying both HoT and PoF gives you 2 slots so Idk.

3B. Unlimited Gathering Tools
Gathering tools or passes, these two are the “mid upgrade” of gemstore stuff. I personally think a pass is far more important than gathering tools because of how they dont run out as easily as salvage kits. And it is not shared among everyone, with addition how expensive it is. I recommend you buy them on sale, like this month.

Now the final tip is that: You dont need to purchase all gems with real money, farming HoT map or SW can net you with 50 gold easy, which translates about 200 gems a day if you’re playing godawfully casual for 5 hours or so. It helps you in the long run financing your gemstore spending. This is why I recommend copper salvage to make your farming more efficient without WP-ing to merchants and stack more salvage kits.
