Hey folks just began playing the game and was hoping for some input on what class to play. I’ve always enjoyed being the healer in mmos as it was often the most needed. What profession do people tend to look for in dungeon content. What is underplayed but necessary? My brother is rolling a necromancer and I would like to know if any professions synergize well with his. Would appreciate any input, Thanks.

Nothing is “necessary”, due to the way combat mechanics were designed in this game. Unfortunately, there are no true healers.

All of them. Every profession is viable for dungeons to the point where if you had five of the same profession (once again, any profession), you could finish it. This system was created to get rid of that “we need x kind of guy before we can do the dungeon” stuff that pervades other MMO’s.

The only prerequisite for clearing a dungeon is that the players be skilled. Play whatever you feel like playing. You’ll fit into any dungeon group if you have the skill.

I’d suggest reading some articles on the site and the blog regarding professions, combat, and dungeons for more in-depth info.

Things that synergize well in this game are boons, condition removal, and fields.

It is because of those things that I would suggest Guardian.

Yes, any class can be “supportive.” But practically speaking, Guardians do it exceptionally well.

User was infracted for being awesome.

I play a Guardian, and in a support/holding roll. Mace/Shield
We have some good abilities to protect and cover allies, and an area heal that has a fast cooldown. I can also hold my own in combat, but more like tank than a dps.
Works well with party members that have ranged attacks, and equally with warriors.
Change the weapon and off hand and it plays very differently though.

As for Dungeons I find most classes can work together, but I play pick up groups and not so much organised efficiency

While any class can be viable, I have to say guardians are fairly impressive in dungeons. I think my ideal dungeon group would be 2 guardians and 3 gun/bow warriors.

Good damage, virtually immune to conditions due to combo spam, everyone is survivable, loads of control.

There seem to be a demand for warriors or guardians for dungeon groups. Apparently they can tank bosses and hold aggro. (Don’t ask me, I am not the one shouting “Looking for warrior or guardian for dungeon”.)

Personally I think it does not matter. For me all seem to work just fine even in pick up groups. Play whatever you find the most fun to play. Be selfish.
