Q:
Best race for Elementalist
A:
theres one or two good racials around that are an interesting choice (think all races tend to have at least 1 thats interesting) but mostly you just need to decide on what looks you prefer.
As blackbeard stated, the race doesn’t really effect the actual gameplay much (beyond story and the few racial move choices) specially if you end up using your profession skills.
Personally I went with human for elementalist, norn isn’t a bad choice as they look similar however the size can get annoying at times (gorram jumping puzzles!). For me humans are generally seen as the average flexible race and seem to have the best affinity for utilizing all the different elements rapidly.
Norn is great (make him/her short) because the ability to take the snow-leopard form gives you access to stealth if you ever decide to WvW. Alternatively, asura have some nice access to different conditions (from radiation field) that could mix it up if you decide to go with a condition build sometime. Human doesn’t bring a lot to the table, but the race isn’t really that important as you won’t use racial skills in but a few cases.
Dasorine is correct: There is not such thing as a best race for any profession. It’s really about aesthetics, and what you envision, and what story line you feel might be the most interesting. Anything outside of that is someone trying to sell you something.

Racial skills are meant to be in general a little weaker than regular skills, mostly as a way to add flavor, you can see them here:

Game-wise there’s no restriction or benefits other than the racials about chosing one race over the other, I think it’s mostly aesthetics. That said, the two races I see least being elementalist would be the norn (they worship the spirits, not the elements) and the charr (lorewise they’re not keen to using magic, mostly keep it because it can be an advantage in battle too big to ignore), while the other three I see as fitting it, the humans since they were the ones that were granted magic in the first place, the sylvari because their natural curiosity would lead them to almost any profesion, and the asura, well, Zojja is an elementalist.
Also, one big thing about GW2 is the aesthetic of your char, to the point where one of the “end game” goals, if you can call it that, is to make your char to look the way you want it to look, so it would also be a good idea to check on how the different races look in light armor beforehand, so you don’t end up with a look you don’t like once you hit 80. You can do that here:

wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
Everything exept norn – they still have evade delay

Not that I’ve noticed. I love having access to stealth in wvw can often get me out of a sticky situation. But as everyone has said it depends on aesthetics mostly, perhaps have a quick look at racial skills but none are particularly game breaking nor will you have any advantage over anyone else as another race.

i have tested norn many time in pvp and everytime got evade delay. I guess it is because of longer animation of it or smth like that.
