GW2 Ritualist class?
An engineer’s turrets are probably the closet thing to a ritualist’s spirits. Mesmer also summons clones/phantasms/illusions, kind of similar to spirits. But, at the end of the day, neither are really anywhere close; however, that doesn’t mean they’re not good classes to try out.
I played a ritualist in GW1. None of the GW2 classes are close to the same as a ritualist, and the gameplay in GW2 is very different from in GW1. It’s honestly best to start a GW2 character without trying to base it off of what you liked/how you played in GW1.
That question is way too broad. Engineers turrets are frequently brought up at being similar to the spirits but spirits was not the only option for playing a ritualist. What aspect of the ritualist are you trying to replicate?

Hmm I’m not sure. Honestly I just enjoyed the whole class in general. Looks have also always been a big thing for me and I really enjoyed how Ritualist armor looked, too. I liked that I was pretty support-y but not a full on healer. I liked sitting in the back lines a lot more helping people from afar.
So elementalist, guardian, engineer, or warrior.
Might work with the other classes(except thief…) but I haven’t looked into those.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Well, the new class (revenant) could be quite near to ritualists, at least optically and lore-wise. But it may take some months til HoT comes out and you can create one.
I was much happier with the GW2 classes after I stopped worrying about trying to match my GW1 experience.
- the gameplay is very different between the games, e.g. you can’t move while casting most skills in GW1 and you almost have to keep moving in GW2.
- the classes don’t match up that well across the games, even when the class names are the same. GW2’s mesmer has almost nothing in common with GW1’s; both games’ rangers have pets, but outside of that, they share little.
What I did instead was try five different classes to about L30 to get a sense of what I liked in this game. I deliberately chose two light classes (my traditional preference), a heavy (my traditional nemesis), and two mediums (my traditional take it/leave it). I ended up loving Guardian, something I didn’t expect (as I used to hate melee).
Of course, everyone’s tastes is different, so your mileage (or kilometrage) will differ.
