Q:

I just got gw2 and i really like it and i was wondering how many computers i can get gw2 on from one account. My brother would like to play it and it would be a waste of money to buy it again since im only using two slots, and i would be a lot of effort to keep letting him use my laptop, i was wondering if i could use my account to download the game on his laptop

You are not allowed to share an account with someone else.

Your brother will need to buy and register his own account.

Mystic’s info is unfortunately wrong and against game rules.

You can however play with your own account on any pc/laptop you want but you cannot share.

If you each have your own account you can play together and help each other out! At best that is wonderful and at worst frustrating.

1. You can play your account on any computer that has GW2 installed, whether it’s in the same geographical location, on the same IP address or somewhere totally different. You can also download as many copies of the client as you like, to as many computers as you like so in theory you can play from any computer that has it installed or where you’re able/allowed to install it.

2. Sharing an account with another person is against the rules. People do it, people have even talked openly about it on the forum but you need to be aware that you can get banned for it and if that happens there’s nothing you can do.

3. Sharing an account would also take a lot of trust and cooperation. As far as Anet are concerned 1 account = 1 person so if your brother does anything to get banned you will be banned too. And on top of that you’ll also be sharing all your gold, karma and other currencies, your bank space and a lot of your items. If he decides to spend all his money on a new item he’ll also be spending all of your money. If you put an item in the bank to save for later he can take it out and use it. If you buy something on the TP and he collects it and then uses, deletes or sells it it’ll be gone and because of the rule about not sharing accounts support will not help you.

Likewise other players will treat you as one person. You’ll have to both be in the same guild/s (even if your character represent one and his represent another) and if he does something to offend them or get you kicked out “Oh, sorry guys that was my brother using my account” is probably not going to help, or even sound believable.

I realise people have different relationships with their siblings but I wouldn’t ever want to share an account with either of my siblings (and we’re all supposedly mature adults who generally get along) because sooner or later it would be a “throwing the Monopoly board at the wall” situation again.

4. On the other side (the nice, happy families side) if you’re sharing an account you won’t be able to be online at the same time. You won’t be able to play together or even see each other in the game.
