Hey guys,
I returned to play yesterday after a while I wasn’t playing. I saw the new changes with the skills and traits, I am a 43 Human Ranger, and I saw the traits they’ve been changed to fit the most similar traits I had before, however, I wanted to ask if there is any chance to reset them and start all over with the skills and traits.
I need more help with leveling, I don’t know how to level fast, I was exploring maps to 100%, and when I got storyline missions I did them, threre is any other way you recommend to leveling? Or maybe if there is and more stuffs like quests or dungs that I should do?
I don’t have good gear, I’m using drops that I get from monsters by exploring maps and doing hearts. My inventory is full of kitten like XP stuff, food, materials I dont know but I don’t have space, what should I do with it? drop it all save it somewhere what to do?
If you know good guides for leveling, traits and skills, gear, for Rangers it will be awesome!
Thank you!

Unfortunately there is no way to reset them, though once your character is level 80, you’ll have enough Hero Points to unlock everything other than Elite Specialisations, regardless of how much Map Completion that character has done.

Also, welcome back to Guild Wars 2

Drop gear in your bank to free up your bags. Or stick it on the TP, sell it to a vendor or salvage it. Or create a new character to act as a mule and transfer it to them.

What you describe is what I’d call “levelling”. if you want to fast level, ignore the story as it slows you down. Pop XP boosters and go do stuff that gets you the most XP, whatever it is that you like doing best. If you can get to a level 80 area at level 70, joining a zerg will get you some safe XP for instance.

In terms of gear and traits, until you are 80 just equip what drops and what you want to try out. When you hit 80 or if you want to see what the meta recommends for each game type, look at metabattle.com

100%ing maps is a good source of leveling experience with the added benefit of unlocking waypoints and getting to know the world. Make sure you harvest all ore, wood and plant nodes you come across, too, since harvesting gives a lot of experience and the low- and mid-level materials are worth quite some coin on the trading post (or come in super helpful should you ever decide to craft yourself).

If you see an event on your map or radar, jump in and take part. Events give a good bit of experience, too, and often events located near a heart even contribute to that heart’s progress. If a heart is too tedious just skip it for now and come back later. There are hearts that can be quick if certain events are active but awfully slow if the events are down. 100%ing a map does give you extra experience and loot, but sometimes it’s more fun to go visit another place instead and come back for that heart another time.

Your bank has a whole tab full of storage for crafting materials that takes a stack (250 pieces) of each crafting material you may come across on your journey. If you have e.g. a few pieces of copper ore in your inventory, either right click them and choose the option to deposit them in material storage from the context menu, or right-click the little cog icon in the upper right corner of your inventory panel where you will find an option to deposit all materials in your (non-invisible) bags at once.

Equipment that you find while exploring is perfectly fine while you are leveling. Compare what you find to what you use, and switch out anything that looks like it’s an upgrade to what you currently wear. Don’t worry about the perfect stats and runes yet, they are outdated so quickly due to the natural speed of leveling that it’s not worth min-maxing yet, especially on your first character.

Always carry a salvage kit with you. Salvage all blue and green equipment you find that you can’t or don’t want to use. Again, this gives you more of the mid-level materials that you can either deposit in your material storage (see above) or sell at the trading post. You can sell stuff from anywhere in the world through the trading post icon at the top left of your screen, but you need to visit a trading post representative (most of them are located in the cities, but a few are scattered throughout the world) to pick up the coin you get in return. In an inventory emergency, selling unused and non-depositable stuff at the trading post is a valid strategy to clean some inventory slots on the fly.

You may also want to check the trading post for larger bags, if your bag slots aren’t maxed out yet. The largest bags have 20 slots, but (cheaper) bags also come in sizes of 18, 15, 12, 10 and 8 (and a few special sizes aside from that). You will find different bags on the trading post, plain ones but also ones that will take equipment/crafting materials/junk and a few other things first, which depending on your storage sorting may come in handy for inventory organization.

Most of all: have fun! Exploring Tyria is just as much fun on a leveling character as it is on an 80. There really is no need to hurry to maxlevel in this game .

Okay, so what is the best for XP? The storyline I do because its fun and doesn’t take time so much I think, but for levelling what is the best? Just exploring maps in my level? I’m level 41 and in my zone there is hearts for level 42-44 so should I do them? It will not be too much difficult? Where can I get a guide for levelling? Zones to my level or something?
Thanks!

If you want an in-depth explanation of what activities award leveling experience, type /wiki leveling into the game’s chat box. It will open the wiki page on leveling (or you can just click the link I included to get to the same page) which has all the information you might ever want (and then some more ).

There isn’t really such a thing as “best xp” in the leveling process. Everything you do in game (short of standing in one spot chatting) gives you experience, and the best for you is generally what you enjoy the most. If you like the story missions, then play them, they do give a good chunk of experience (about 2-3 levels per chapter, with a new chapter opening every 10 levels) as well as some useful loot.

If you like exploring, do so, every area of the map you unfog, every waypoint, vista, point of interest and hero challenge you unlock gives experience. Exploration experience is even relative to your current level, not to the area level, so you are free to explore lower level maps, too. Unlocking a waypoint in Metrica Province gives you as much experience as unlocking a waypoint in Bloodtide Coast.

The wiki also has a page on all the zones in game with their suggested level. An asura is placed in Metrica Province to start, but there’s nothing keeping you from jumping over to the Plains of Ashfurt (the charr starting area) and exploring that instead if Metrica isn’t to your liking. Thanks to level scaling you will have an interesting time exploring lower level areas but still get loot relevant to your current level. Check out the zones overview and just pick whatever area looks interesting. By the way, the level ranges of each map can also be seen in-game on your world map.

As for “guide for levelling”, in this game it’s really just “go find something you enjoy”. No matter what you do, you get experience (or in the case of wvw and pvp related activities leveling tomes through reward tracks), so it’s really up to you to figure out what you enjoy most.

You can reset your traits and trait lines for free as many times as you want, don’t worry about it. Also, the game keeps your trait selection across PvE, PvP and WvW differently.

Leveling is ultra easy: everything in this game provides xp. You can level your character just discovering the maps, crafting, doing PvP or WvW, dungeons, etc. The fastest way would probably be either doing dungeons (a dungeon completed fills ~70% or you level bar) or doing meta events. The leveling tomes from PvP are also very handly for alts.

Buy gear each 5-10 levels; sell everything you don’t use -or salvage it and bank your materials-. Gear isn’t even important before reaching 80, and once you end there exotics are cheap to obtain.

Okay, so what is the best for XP? The storyline I do because its fun and doesn’t take time

Me too. It does slows you down, you’d get more XP by popping a booster and running round the open world but you’d miss out on the fun of the story so do what you want to do most.

For exploration, if you don’t have everywhere open yet, consider going to LA and using the Asura gates to get to the major cities and from there, unlock the other areas.

Gather everything, it’s great XP and you get mats you can use or sell. Just keep an eye on the level of your gathering tools, higher maps need higher tools.
Crafting is nice XP, use a guide to maximise your time and minimise the cost.

Make sure you have some form of XP boost, food or guild boosts will do.
If you’re not aware what world bosses are, have a look at the timer site on dulfy.net and see which ones you can get to. If they are your level, make sure you have the closest WP to each of them and do them daily.

Okay so just keeping exploring maps? I’m now in Harathi Hinterlands, but there are things that is too difficult to my level, so should I keep exploring that or leave it and start another map? Just explore maps to my level and move between maps with the wiki? This is what I was doing all time. Just exploring maps to my level because the hearts is more XP than hearts to lower levels.
About the traits and skills, I need a little help, I don’t know what to use, just for the levelling right now I need a little start, I’m using Bow and Greatsword for now, but need help. I completly finish the Marksman traits, what now?
What is this site Metabattle?

Keep in mind that mobs are worth more bonus XP the longer they have not been killed by someone, so if you are not afraid of some grinding, a good way to get XP is strutting down areas that are away from any hearts or events and killing everything while having a killstreak XP booster.

Personally I found that especially swamps with lots of yellow fireflies are a good spot to grind XP

Ishmael, what do you mean? just killing mobs? but what is the difference between near hearts or far from them? If no one attacking the mobs I ’m killing, so why its less XP?

I take pictures of my bank, its full of good stuff (I think) that I cannot use or shouldn’t use right now or I don’t know how to use, and a picture of my inventory. I bought Craftsman’s bags and an Equipment Box with 20 slots each. It’s good? There is any recommend of which one is better? Or it doesn’t matter and the only difference is just it takes just the materials/equipment before junk?
And 80-90 gold its fine to my level?

Can you please help me with the bank items? What should I do?

Killing mobs is the slowest source of xp. But if you are looking for max xp from killing them (sans any boosters), the ones that haven’t been recently hunted have a big hunk of bonus xp, sometimes a couple times more than the base xp. So the longer a mob lasts after spawning, the more it’s worth.

20 slot bags are the biggest bags you can get. Some people adore specialty bags like the ones you got for sorting out inventory, others like me prefer regular type bags so we can control where things are in our inventory. The specialty bags will do the same thing as any regular bag, you can move anything in or out of them as you like, they just are the first location their type of item will go when picked up if they have any open slots.

80-90 gold is amazing for your level. I have a friend with multiple 80’s who is usually around 10 gold (she’s making legendaries, so it all gets spent). I myself with 15 or so 80’s and regular play (but not regular sale of mats/items, I’m a hoarder) miiiight get over 200 gold every now and then.

I am sorry I don’t have time to counsel you on your bank, I just came to the computer to get movie tickets. My advice as a hoarder would be to keep everything anyway, so you need someone more hardline than me for that part

I will say that you needn’t rush your xp for your first character. You’ll miss a lot of the game that way. Take your time to explore, to follow npc’s that run off after an event (they’ll often be heading to trigger another one) and enjoy their conversations. Push your way into caverns. If you find a jumping puzzle you didn’t know was there, I think it’s a lot more satisfying than being told exactly where it is and going to check it off your list. And doing all that will cause xp to happen anyway. Grinding it just for its own sake takes all the fun out! (Back when I got exercise, it was through fencing, vintage dance, walks in the park or bicycling with my husband, weekend LARPs … I can’t stand the idea of a gym. XP grinding is the same way for me).

One addition: near hearts matters only if they are the mobs the heart npc needs pruned down. If you kill a centaur and you see the yellow heart bar advance, then killing them is filling the heart and when it’s full you get a hunk of xp and access to that heart vendor.

the problem is that I’m hoarder too, but I have things in the bank that gives for example items for dungeons, and i don’t know which weapon is the best for me to choose so I just save the item in the bank, or i have a lot of XP Boost items. All my gold I think someone gave me long time ago, and I bought the bags for 13-15 gold each, I didn’t find regular 20 slolts bags I didn’t looked so well.
I’m exploring everything not just killing mobs, I just want to be sure that its good way to train too. And id there is any tips and recommended zones or something. by the way, how is the best way to earn gold if needed?

Just regarding your bag situation, you can create alts and give them cheap 12 or 15 slot bags… for the time being, its your most cost effective option.
Regarding gold, do your dailies and salvage and sell the stuff you don’t want… lower tier mats sell for good prices on the TP (assuming you’re not trying to level crafting). It’s only at 80 when you can get to the more lucrative gold farms (SW, AB multi-mapping, fractals, dungeons – technically you could start sooner, but the level/gear disadvange makes them more challenging)

Thing is, if killing the mobs is part of a heart or event, they don’t last as long, that’s what I meant with killstreak booster the bonus XP can be many times the base XP you’d get from the mob.
