Hi.
I’m just wondering how much content this game has for a solo players?
Is there anything at the end game for solo players?
If I don’t have a regular party/group/guild/friends to play with, am I missing a lot?
Basically is it worth playing if I’m playing mainly solo?

al story content is designed to be soloable, but can be played in groups.
A small exception is the dungeons: you can play the storymode of dungeons for supporting lore on the story. Note that this is group content, but not necessary to finish the story, it only adds to character depth of Destiny’s Edge. The only true exception is the last dungeon, the personal story ends with a dungeon in Orr, but a few months back we had a patch where they changed it so it can be solo’d now, but in my opinion, it’s not a foolproof patch so it’s still better and more fun to do with a few friends.
So in short, yes, all story content can be solo’d.

As to your other queston, end game content, no, most endgame content is not designed for solo play.
They are either map meta events where lots of people work together on a big event or mission, or we talk about raids and fractals. Fractals are made for 5 man teams, and raids for 10 man teams. Wrld meta events are open so you don’t need to bring any friends yourself, but you need to come at a time other players will be around. You don’t need to be in teams for that.

To answer your stated question: Is it worth playing if you mainly play solo?
YES, all story and story related content can be done solo. like in all MMO’s you will get MORE worth for your money, but thats all in personal opinion

Dungeons, Fractals (dungeon like content) and PvP are 5 man team and Raids are 10 man team content. Pretty much everything else can be soloed. Now some open world events in game are difficult to do solo but often those become flash mobs with swords and no formal teaming is required. In PvE you only need a relative low level of participation to get full XP and loot drop (no splitting of XP or loot in this game).

It depends on what you mean by solo players.

If you want to be literally alone with no one else doing the same content at the same time you are then you’re pretty much restricted to the story and maps without big event chains running. Or, with a lot of practice (which may require a group at first) dungeons and some other instances.

If you just want to be able to log in whenever you feel like it and do whatever you want to do with whoever happens to be online at the time instead of having to make sure your friends are online or your guild has scheduled that night to do that content then you can do almost everything.

The vast majority of the game is designed to encourage cooperation with strangers. If you’re doing an event and another person shows up you can help each other complete it without being in a party (or even talking). This even applies to big events – for example you can just show up when a World Boss spawns or a map-wide event chain like Silverwastes defense is starting and complete it with whoever happens to be on the map at the time, and you’ll all get credit for your own participation.

And then of course you can use the Looking For Group tool to find a group of like-minded people to do dungeons, Fractals and things like that from all the people who are currently online and interested in joining in. You might get to be friends with them afterwards but you don’t need to know them or pre-arrange it to play together with them.

If you mean solo as in completely alone, then most exploration based content will be soloable, but most of the challenging and more interesting content needs groups.

If you simply mean you want to work as a solo entity without regular help from friends or guildmates or other familiar faces, and you don’t mind working with random passerbys, then this game is pretty much designed for that kind of thing besides high end pve content. You really don’t actually have to communicate with anyone though it’s generally preferred.

Though truth be told this game is a lot better with a friend or three.

I think this game is great for a solo player. Like others above me have already said, most endgame content is designed for groups of 5 or more players (fractals are designed for 5 player groups, raids are designed for 10 player groups, and HoT map meta events can have upwards of 50 people contributing to them but by no means are that many people required), however the game is designed in such a way that you can still enjoy this content without having a dedicated group that you play with.

The game includes a LookingForGroup (LFG) tool that you can use to easily find groups of people to do this content with you. So even if you don’t have a dedicated group, you just need to dedicate a few minutes of your time to find a fractal/dungeon party of other random players and will still be able to complete the content. Raids are harder to just join groups like that, but only because a very small part of the community raids. Its still possible to raid just with other groups of people however.

I’ve played World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, Eve Online, Dragon Nest, Echo of Soul, Blade and Soul, Drakensang, Path of Exile, Tree of Savior, Elsword and a couple others.

I’d say yes – GW2 is a very strong solo player experience. It far outclasses solo play in WoW.

I played the game for about a year and a half free-to-play with no guild. The open-world content, the world bosses, random dungeon runs, the LFG tool if you want to run Silverwastes or Verdant Brink or whatever…

Yeah, there’s tons you can do without having a regular group. And it’s a lot less boring running around solo-ing things than in other MMOs.

I’ve played several characters almost entirely solo. It is very frustrating, especially the lack of coherent, intelligible information in the Wiki. Added to that is a terrible chat facility, so if you do ask other players, they have to be nearby and the chances are you will be ignored anyway.

Some things need a lot of thought, especially, if it is actually worth it. For example, I abandoned Mystery Cave and joined a group to do Hearts and Minds.

One of the great things about GW2 is you can easily go back to abandoned quests.

The best advice I’ve had is keep moving. Most monsters are pretty slow.

To me, this is the beauty of the game.

I don’t have friends that play, not much one for guilds (there’s always some extra baggage that comes with that). I like people just fine, but need to be able to turn it on and off, depending on my energy level.

The way tagging works in this game, other than fractals and dungeons, you don’t really need to be ‘in’ a group to do anything, except Triple Trouble. When you need people around for things, they generally are anyways. And when you don’t, then you don’t. And because there isn’t really ‘mob stealing’ in the game, if someone happens by and kills some of the things you are killing with you, it’s not a big deal, unless the kill it before you can touch it, that’s a bummer, but that is super rare.

It’s a pretty friendly game, and jumping in and out of squads as you see fit is not a big deal. About the only time you really need to be super organized is maybe if you get deeper into fractals, and of course, learning Triple Trouble, but that’s a matter of showing up and listening and following directions and being open to learning new things about your class.

I’m largely a solo player, but I play ‘more’ with people just ‘organically’ in this game than I’ve ever played with people in other games, simply because of the way it’s designed (and having a nice community helps).

I feel the Wiki has great information, many comment on it being one of the best out there. If you find an article confusing or lacking information, you can always ask questions on the ‘talk’ page(s), or add information to the article. It is, of course, maintained only by players.

As far as chat, chat is map-wide, if desired. I’m not sure what your definition of ‘nearby’ is. World-wide chat was considered, and pretty much vetoed by the playerbase.

@OP: I’ve done every story instance, save one, solo. I play without a party/squad almost always; the exception being when I play, occasionally, with my SO. But, that’s not because of need, only because we like to play in a party even though we often end up doing different content whilst in said party. Lol.

I’d say it’s a game very solo-friendly.

Good luck.

It depends. There is, of course, plenty of content intended for group play including dungeons, fractals, raids, PvP, WvW, and open world bosses and events. In addition, what you are capable of doing on your own varies by skill level. Some players are just that special kind of skilled and crazy that compels them to figure out how to solo group events and even some bosses and dungeons.

So it depends on what type of player you are how far you can take your solo game. Still, if you take a somewhat less strict interpretation of solo play and include the ability to join on to content without the requirement of seeking people out and forming that group yourself? Then everything is potentially solo content.

You will find that you can join on to groups or even simply show up and cooperate with other players in GW2 without ever talking to them at all. This is true of world bosses, any open world group event, and even most fractals, dungeons, PvP, and WvW. You can simply join in and do your thing if that’s what you want to do. It’s rarely a bad thing to have another player present in this game. It’s almost always a benefit as it is very non-competitive in open world right down to resource nodes (you can’t steal them) and the way your abilities help other players (area heals that affect anyone nearby, not just those in your group, etc.).

Let me answer you as a solo player myself.

Yes, you can play GW2 Solo no problem. As long as you are an altoholic. You can get a character to 80, then another, and another. End game can be dailies, and World Bosses. This is what I do and am really enjoying it. I haven’t got HoT because I’m having too much fun leveling all my characters.

I can assure you that GW2 is very playable for the solo player.

Lankybrit has a point, as well as the thread in general. The majority of the field content is soloable, but there are certain events that require a group effort, such as general event chains and worldboss event chains. Personal Story is designed with solo focus, as well as the Living World / HoT Story instances. The core point of this is that any and all group-specific things in Guild Wars 2 is optional, not required for full enjoyment.

I’d also add that a lot of unsoloable content in maps tends to draw more than a few complaints, so it’s pretty clear a lot of people prefer soloing and yes, the game is sometimes adjusted to suit them as well.

Examples include various enemies near hero points being downgraded from champions.
