It is finally time to choose my class
There’s not much left that you don’t like to have, is it? Exept healing.
You like
- high damage
- damage over area
- support
- survivability (= strong armor, elemetarist was not yours)
The druid in WoW also was kind of a “jack of all trades” if I remember correctly.
In GW2, I would recommend to try a warrior. He wears strong armor, can deal lots of damage to one target or several, and he can support his allies with shouts and banners, too.
It sounds like you’d really enjoy the engineer. They don’t start with a lot of options for weapons, but once you unlock the kit skills and toolbelt you’ll find that they potentially have as many skills available at any given time as an elementalist. They have decent support capability without being glassy like the elementalist or mobility-challenged like the guardian. Turrets are even reminiscent of the WoW shaman’s totems. The only problem is that you have to play till 30 or so to get a good taste of what the class feels like at end game.
As someone who had a druid main in WoW and has a level 70 warrior here, I actually hesitate to recommend the class for you based on some of the other stuff you said. Your support options are actually pretty limited. They’re not bad at support, mind you, but they are kind of pigeonholed when it comes to how they go about it. I have fun with my warrior, but you won’t see much versatility within a single build.
Another option to look at is guardian. Like the warrior, they don’t necessarily have a ton of options at any given time, but there’s slightly more variety in terms of support builds to choose from. They do have a “paladin” aesthetic, which may be a turn off for you if you gravitate toward warlocks and necromancers.

Well since there are no Tank and Healer classes. The combat system is based on Damage/Control/Support.
Every class has their own ways of dealing Damage/Control/Support.
All have very good survival, damage output, and control skills to help you in the fight.
It all boils down to playstyle preferences.
I have: Warrior, Engineer, Elementalist, Ranger, and Mesmer.
If you play on “Borlis Pass” server, I could help you a lot on those classes.
Also server trasfers are free at the moment. Let me know if you are interested to arrange a meeting ingame. PM me =)
Your wishes sure sound like a Guardian to me. Before the BWEs I was positive I’d never want to play one, as they felt far too much like paladins to me and those had bored me stiff in WoW. Then I rolled one to test it and whoaaa.
GW2 is more about not getting killed than dealing out the dps, and Guardians excel at not getting killed. So many shields, protections, blocks, defenses! You can trait them towards damage output or towards pure defense and support. They make combo fields, burn their foes with blue fire, and just generally kick rear.
My guardian feels like my toughest character, even more so than my warrior. I find myself choosing her for dungeon runs even though she’s not 80 like my thief.
To me it sounds like Elementalist would be perfect for you. I’m guessing you haven’t tried a survivability build with the correct gear yet, though. With points in Water and Arcana, and plenty of healing gear (and boon duration runes), you will be incredibly survivable. It’s a different kind of survivability than say, a Warrior for example. You won’t have a ton of health or armor (actually the lowest health and armor of any profession in the game), but with your ability to evade damage, control enemies, provide tons of boons, aoe damage, and support, you will excel in an entirely different way.
And don’t let anyone tell you that Elementalist isn’t good in sPvP either. My Elementalist is very, very hard to kill in sPvP, and can take on multiple enemies at a time. And the same goes for PvE, of course.
It’s definitely not the easiest profession to play. In fact, it may be the most difficult, and take the longest to master. However, it is a VERY fun and rewarding play style once you get the hang of it.
Hope this helps,

I am going to second this. I’ve played my elementalist since launch week, and also had issues staying alive at first. However, once I learned how to dodge, kite, attunement swap, and started traiting more evenly, things became much easier. As a double dagger 10 Air/30 Water/30 Arcana, I typically outsurvive other classes, sometimes even warriors, in dungeons thanks to my self-heals, cantrips, condition removals, and permavigor. I’ve also been mobbed by seven Risen at once in Orr, veteran included, and came out of it without being downed once. It’s a different kind of survivability- an active one instead of a passive one- but we are very survivable nonetheless.

Thanks for helps. I have found tips very useful. I tried ranger cos of very strong bond with nature and well it was fun but still not going to be my main.
Right now I am testing engineer and elementalist. I already had one ele at level 12 but havent tried engineer yet. Going to give it a try.
