Short answer: No
Longer answer: upgrades and influence are server-bound, though you won’t actually loose it, the upgrades and influence will remain on the old server and you start at zero.

Does anyone know why Influence/Upgrades are server bound?

I moved to a different Server today, shame losing so many months worth of upgrades. Less bothered about Influence but loss of upgrades is making me consider moving back to the old server. The plan was for the rest of the Guild to move across when they login, for the time being I have told them not to by phone.

Maybe I should add that we are a tiny Guild made up of family members so it takes aaaages to build up enough points to do anything.

From what I understand, some mega guilds span multiple servers. For example, the Operation Union thread in this forum is about such a guild. People join the guild for networking opportunities and will sometimes transfer back and forth between the guild’s multiple server hubs (which are effectively like different branches of a corporation that are located in different countries). In theory, this could promote further interaction between multiple servers as people communicate and aid their guildies on the other server.

However in actually practice, it’s basically just a barrier designed to penalize guilds for jumping ship. For the WvW junkies (or anyone who just loves WvW server bonuses for their PvE), it’s a big deal to be on a consistently winning WvW server. Since the fortunes of servers in the WvW area are in constant flux, people will normally flee to the currently winning server as an individual players. This guild upgrade barrier helps to prevent entire guilds from fleeing servers, which further upsets a server’s WvW status and sends it into a negative feedback loop.

No matter how people like to sugar coat it, this is yet another area where ArenaNet’s WvW needs trump the needs of PvE. Now since PvE servers reap the benefits of their WvW status, I can see ArenaNet’s reasoning. However it doesn’t mean that I have to particularly like it.

We are Test Group F. (Don’t ask about what happened to the previous Test Groups.)

^ Wise sums it up perfectly.

It acts as a disausion to those thinking about moving for less honourable reasons such as WvW glory.

However it is quite sad for guilds that want to move server because of other reasons.
Having cross server is quite fun, having different branches. The biggest limitation of Union is the lack of guesting w/o that it’s slight turn off, with the introduction of guesting hopefully there would be more things like Union.

If you feel really compelled to move do so as I can tell you it ain’t that fun playing on a server you don’t really enjoy being on. You can steadily get back the influence as long as you run in a pair or more fairly regularly.

Family moved (one more left to do it but … ). We’ll stay at Gunnars Hold, we decided me trying to get back into Desolation was maybe more trouble than it is worth, it is pretty full there.

The reason for moving is there are a few friends on Gunnars Hold so the list of people to hang out with has doubled. Back to the slow upgrade thing, we are going to chip together to buy at least some upgrades with gold.

As this is the Players Helping Players Forum it is worth saying that Guild Influence Points can be bought for not too much Gold from the Guild Promoter so if you do move servers, even if you don’t want to spend too much gold, it is worth visiting him to at least check prices for points. I didn’t know that until our move http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Promoter

Just to add to this, If planning on moving to another server, you might want to ask people to not use the letters of recommendation they get for certain storyline steps.
