Guild Wars 2

Hello there, I don’t know where I should post this question, so I took the safe bet of posting it here instead of like…Something opposite.

I found out that a good friend of mine loves Guild Wars and played GW1 until she lost her account, and she doesn’t have the current funds to buy Guild Wars 2, so I decided to get her a copy…Here comes the question though.

She is from another country and I don’t exactly have her adress, so the one thing that I could do is: Buy a copy, open it up and read the code for her, but I am more curious if she needs the disc or not to be able to install it. Does the serial code thing when you make an account basically work like BattleNet’s system of “Type in your code, you get the game” or how does it work? Would help me a lot

She just needs a code to enter into her account when she creates an account on Guild Wars 2 webpage. She does not need the disc because she can download the game client from her account page.

What country do you live in, and what country does she live in?

Just the code is fine. Tell her that it is not GW1 and things should be fine.

Don’t send her the code over an insecure medium like email. Anet uses the code for account verification. They asked for my code when I requested my linked email address (also my login name) be changed. So I would assume they’ll ask for it if the account gets hacked and “stolen”, and you’re trying to reclaim it. You don’t want the hacker to have access to it because it’s sitting in one of your emails.

She and I use Skype, pretty sure that’s secure enough.

Okay….New problem: Can’t find a physical copy, now I am thinking of trying to get a digital copy.

How exactly does it work with buying Guild Wars off the site? Like does it provide a serial code for usage or does it send you directly to some sort of account creation thing? It would really help me out, because I need a birthday gift of some kind for my lady friend

When purchasing GW2 through the official website, you will be sent an email with the Serial Code/Key. You can forward that on to your friend, and they can use it to create their own game account. You might send them the purchase information, as well, as they might need it should they ever have occasion to contact CS about their account.

There we go, purchase made, E-mail being stored, now just to wait tommorow morning for her birthday to give her the code.

I just hope it doesn’t have an expiration date if it isn’t used too soon…

I don’t believe so. The Serial codes in boxed copies might sit on the shelf for any amount of time…
