Planning for upgrade 390x to GTX 1080
Not for GW2. Game is heavily CPU limited.
For Star Citizen with VR though…
As above poster said not on this game. They don’t utilize graphics card much sadly
Thats overkill. CPU and RAM probably get you trough the FPS for this game. especially in zerg.
I bet 970 will last you more than 2 years. if you are aiming for 60 FPS range for most of this year gaming.

the only real advantage of 1080 over 390x in gw2 its heat disipation and power consumption. performance wise you will gain nothing. but it depends what other games are you playing/ what resolution, etc.
thank you so much for all valuable idea for regarding this issue. concluded to do nothing upgraded will be better.
If you have some FPS concerns prompting this question, you might consider a CPU upgrade, depending on what you have currently. Anything between an i5 3570k to the current i7 top tiers will run GW2 well. AMD or older CPUs may struggle.
And don’t forget to buy an ssd for reduced loading screen. I remember back in 2012 I had 4 min loading screen in LA, and after I got ssd it was like 5-10 sec. CPU should be at least i5 so you don’t struggle with fps issues. Graphic card should be good enough so it doesn’t have heat problems, my old card was really loud when I was playing gw2, and I couldn’t go anywhere near a good graphic setting, despite having an i5. Correct me if I’m wrong, cause I am not a hardware specialist, but I think you need everything on the same level or it will always have some issue. I have a GTX 680 and it is more than enough for gw2. (my old one was gtx 540)

Still can’t find a PC that can run at least 60 FPS max graphics during Frozen Shaman world boss

Problem is with the client, not the PC. But that’s splitting hairs, what you say is true for that and a bunch of other situations.
I wouldn’t upgrade the GPU. I almost upgraded my entire system but held off as the PC case I wanted was just announced and weren’t taking orders yet. During that time I realized that I really wasn’t going to play other PC games and any eve fit I would gain from the upgrade wouldn’t translate into much for GW2.
So unless you plan on playing other games too that would utilize the new graphics card, I personally wouldn’t buy it. You’re better off upgrading your CPU but even that will only get you so far.
GTx 1080 don’t yo mean a Titan
For this game, it won’t do much. But looking at specs for new cards (1070/80) that is one hell of an upgrade if GW2 isn’t your only game. Now I only have hearsay regarding prices but from what I heard, the 1070 will give the biggest bang for buck.
Also, these cards are new releases that are going to blow Titans out of the water.
