I’ve been playing GW2 with an Xbox 360 controller for the past 2 days and have found it to be surprisingly viable. Naturally, there are limitations – such as not being able to talk or access certain interfaces but, from a combat perspective, it’s pretty decent. I would highly recommend a controller to anyone who…

1) Owns an Xbox 360 (has a controller and is familiar with the buttons)
2) Doesn’t already have a gaming mouse/pad
3) Struggles with controlling both movement and abilities with one hand
4) is a CLICKER.

I don’t know how a 360 controller compares to a gaming mouse/ pad as I’ve never used one. However, with logical button mapping and some practice, this is not only a nice alternative but a VASTLY superior option to your standard keyboard and mouse setup (in terms of combat) imo.

If you want to play GW2 with a 360 controller you’ll need:
> Your computer + 360 controller
> A Microsoft Wireless Receiver (plugs into your USB)
> Button mapping software*

*The two most popular I’ve come across are XPadder and Pinnacle Game Profiler.

XPadder = Free and very user-friendly but with limited control options. You’ll likely find yourself quite confused over what all your buttons do when you get in-game.

PGP = Not free; you have to pay after your 20 day free trial. It’s also more complex so you may find yourself downloading profiles other people have made and then just adapting them slightly. However, the software allows you to map multiple commands to one button e.g. (tap) X, Y, B for weapon skills 1, 2, 3 or (hold) X, Y, B for utilities 1, 2, 3.

I use Pinnacle; makes the 360 controller much more viable.

Tl;dr Xbox 360 controller > Keyboard and mouse.

I just read a thread on Dev Tracker about cheaters getting banned (That’s good) but one of these “cheaters” said he was using a Pinnacle for controller mapping.

Well this fella might be a cheater anyway for what I know but after reading that I got a little nervous for the sake of my fiancĂ©e that is using XPadder for an Xbox controller so she can lessen the stress on her wrist since she has an injury that makes her unable to sit by the keyboard to long and also with a neat trackball she can’t play for very long. But we found out GW2 and Xpadder with Xbox controller worked so good and she can realy enjoy it for over 30min without getting to much pain.

What worries me after reading that thread; is Xpadder a “safe” program to use, and ofcourse no macroes are used Except for getting mouseclick+WASD to get the same turns as you get when holding left mouse button while moving with WASD.

(seached a little for an answer but no success)
Would be realy neat to get an official answer to this.
