Whilst I do like Downed States I have to admit I would not be against lowering the Finishing duration although I’d have to test it.
Dcgregorya also has a point which I’ve thought over before. Downed states need to be balanced. I would support everyone having the same set of Downed skills in PvP environments.
Another thing is the current skills, some need a nerf:
Thieves teleport on the 2 button is too powerful, finding them when they can go in any direction is tricky, and if they went down away from you they’ll likely get a stealth from the 3 button after that AND another teleport.
Warrior’s 3 button is ridiculous too. A self rally for 15 secs is it? It doesn’t take 15 seconds for a Warrior to smash someone who just ran straight into their range to try and Finish them. I have played Warrior and really feel bad for the people I destroy like that. x)
I also think Guardian’s 2 button is too powerful to be on the 2 key. It’s an AoE knockback/knock down. Whilst Engineer has this too and with a ton more damage, it’s on their 3 key. 3 takes longer to charge. You have 2 straight away. When a Guardian goes down in group combat they can then smash the whole enemy team away, it’s a bit much to just have.
I honestly can’t remember Engineer’s 2 skill, but I know Elementalist’s which I do play is a root which can prevent the enemy from Finishing you longer than any of the others if they start at a distance, it’s situational. I’m not sure we need to change that personally. But. They do lack the true interrupts of others, so it might be worth testing too.
My views of downed is pretty much only about PvP, I think in PvE it is fine.
My biggest complaint with the downed system is the fact that not all downed bars are created equal. In my opinion there should be able to build your bar from a set of selectable options that best fit your play style and everyone has access to the same list of options. Obviously everyone has #1 and #4, but #2 and #3 should be selectable, imo.
I also think pets should de-spawn or go downed with you.
Overall I think downed would be fine it it was better balanced.
Am I alone in getting as much satisfaction in saving a team mate as killing an enemy?
Saving a friendly from the jaws of death has just as much significance in mass battle as killing enemies does.
At least it gives you a reason to charge into fights when your ally is almost done for, otherwise you’d just see their low health and continue onwards thinking they are done for anyway.
So in a way, it encourages more pvp fights.

The downed system in its current state blows, hard. Needs some changes.
The downed system is one of my absolute favorite parts of the game. I love it, and I especially love it in PvP. You don’t HAVE to execute someone when they are down. They do very minor amounts of damage while downed, and by occasionally interrupting their attempts at getting up you can effectively keep them out of the game by keeping them alive longer.
There is definitely strategy in how to deal with downed players. Yeah, it can be annoying when someone teleports away while you are executing them but there are plenty of ways to deal with that.
Downed state is good in PvE. Downed state is good in tournament. Downed state is sometimes annoying but acceptable in hot-join sPvP.
But downed system is bad in WvWvW. Not because with good play it can be done, or circumvent, even not because it breaks the flow of the fight but because it promotes zerging! That is the problem!
When a smaller team, a TEAM, with good players give a very good fight against the zerg, downing many ppl, but able to execute very few and the zerg (a total pug with medicore players) struggle to to defeat this team (eventually they do, inevitable) then the small, good team is not rewarded by their awesome play and effort. And this is not fictional, it happened, we where that team, we had a very great more than 10 minutes fight with a zerg having ppl least third times than us, and no it was not us running they chasing, it was a real fight at the far north objective on a borderland. We could kill 2-3 ppl for real, but downed much more during the fight. And don’t say we did not outplayed them, when a zerg needs more than 10 minutes to kill 5 (FIVE) ppl, I think it is safe to say we played much more better than them! But this kind of act is not rewarded with this system. That is the problem.
However, this is not so serious, gamebreaking or what that make us leave to play, we enjoy this guerrilla warfare very much (and we hate zerging), so we can live with it, but I admit after such situation, it is a little bit sad, that we could not brought more of them with us (and getting more chance to loot badges), because we think we would deserve it.
So if downed state would be taken out from WvWvW, or the finishing move would be shorter, we would second it.

I am going to assume most of the people who dont like the downed state are playing Heartseeker/P.Whip thieves or 2Axe/GS warriors and are mad that their OP damage doesnt 100% carry the day… just like 95%.
I just played a game in which 4 my teammates were down on GY.
Smokescreen on the ground and i ressed 3 of them.
