AFAIK you will lose the skin if you infuse it.
All MF recipes replace the old item with a new item. So if it’s even possible to infuse it after transmuting it, the skin will definitely replaced with the new item.
You CAN infuse it, but the skin would be lost.
Always infuse it before you skin it if at all possible.
