Rime-Rimmed Mariner's Rebreather
I’ve got light of dwayna recipe in the second stack of gifts I opened.
I could sell it for 1 gold less than I bought mine 2 weeks ago.
Other than that I got 2 ho-ho tron.
I opened about 1500 gifts
Do you remember if you opened Large or Giant gifts? I’m not seeing much of a difference in drop tables between the two, and the wiki confirms this, but I’d like to know if they’re exclusive to either.

Those are some good drops ._.
I know of someone who got the said breathers, 4 in 20k. Last 3 in the last 250gifts. Not sure if got anymore after that.

I’m no stranger to RNG or statistics, and 20k seems a pretty good sample size, but I’d like to get a bigger one. If anyone else has opened several thousands of gifts, I’d like to hear how many rebreathers or ascended recipes they got.
It’s also good to get some confirmation of some kind that they do drop from the boxes, but I’d like first-hand accounts instead of second-hand. Things tend to get exaggerated.
All anecdotes suggest the drop rate for the Rebreather is miniscule. It might not be as rare as Mini Gwynefrydd, but it’s rare enough that I strongly suggest grinding the PvP reward track if you want one. (I did so 5 times to get my 5 mains equipped. Talk about being burnt out on PvP. x_x)

Yeah, after my own experience trying to get one, it’s clear that it’s far easier to get the Rebreather from PvP. However, since ANet has always made it a point to make things accessible through both PvP and PvE to similar degrees, I was curious to see just what the drop rate might be. They haven’t made an item yet (save for the balthazar backpiece) that is exclusive to one mode or another (that I’m aware of, there might be more). With how low the chances are of getting this rebreather, it looks like it’s just one more PvP exclusive skin.
Regardless, these need better drop research. The wiki has a miserable amount of information on the rates of all the rarer items.
I find it rather ironic and silly that underwater combat is next to non-existent in PvP and yet the best way to get the only exotic aquabreather in the game is through, what else, PvP.
And not only that, but it’s the sole piece of underwater equipment I actually want… I guess it’s off to PvP with me. I’m still interested in any drop frequencies anyone might have gathered, though.
I’d imagine most drop rate charts and results won’t be fully compiled and posted until Wintersday is officially done.
Well, the pvp track takes very little time imo (i’m stacking tomes to 20-80 immediatly), i’ve got to the end three times in less than a week(i’ve played 40-50ish of matches, thus 20 should do it). :x
I remember in one thread, Wanze said that he opened somewhere in the vicinity of 2500 Giant Gifts without getting a single Rebreather, so I’d say the odds are probably something like 1 in 1000, at a bare minimum. 1 in 5000 might be closer to the true chance.
Thankfully though, the new “PvP potions” do help speed up progress through the reward tracks. If you have any Birthday or Celebration Boosters, they also grant a 10% bonus towards reward tracks.
