Serious Torch Question
I believe I got the first tier leveling my guardian, but I was mainly focused on xp and the achievement progress was an afterthought, so I wasn’t focusing on it much, just using the torch when I could.
in fact, we’re going to put the goons to sleep.
Meanwhile – we dig.
To count, the kill must be done by direct damage from a torch skill.
Easily done on ambiant creatures.
The torch with the Guard is tricky, because the fire from Virtue of Justice can get in the way. However, if you’ve got the enemy down to low health, don’t put down a symbol or anything else that that hits rapidly (such as Smite), but instead use Torch 5. You still might have your VoJ mess up the torch kill, but the torch 5 attacks rapidly enough it should work. Torch 4 when it’s released as a ranged attack also hits for direct damage on top of the fire, but like the warrior below you’d have to make sure it’s the final blow… the rapid fire of torch 5 I think would give you the better chance.
The Warrior(Berserker) is just harder. I don’t know if the Torch 5 can constitute a kill. However Torch 4 should, but you’d have to time it to be the killing blow… and that’d be very, very hard given that the damage isn’t too huge.

Ranger torch. Bonfire, Profit.
Also, unless it was changed the ascalonian warriors in the urban battleground fractal that spawn just north of the starting zone are free kills as they have very low hp.
There are a couple of PS steps with infinite low health mob spawns. One is where you go with Forgal into the LA sewer, you can sit at the start and kill rats all day long. Another is in Orr where you go up a ramp to a spider boss. Staying on the ramp gets you tons of little spiders. As long as you only ever hit 4 and 5 in those spots, along with anything you need to do to survive, you can rack up the kill count for Slayer.
SE Mount Maelstrom has a beach with ambient crabs and mosquitoes, also handy for doing Slayer achieves, but you don’t get the density of spawn that you do in the PS steps.
I hadn’t thought of Urban Battleground but that is certainly worth a try, though perhaps a little more hazardous and thus less zen feeling when your only goal is watching the achieve progress tick along.
The big problem with Torch kills is Burning. A death due to a condition damage packet will not register as a weapon kill, and the Burning is likely to outperform the damage of the Torch. There’s also the fact that a Mesmer can’t get a Torch kill, because none of the Mesmer Torch skills do direct damage.
As they’ve said above, look for ambient creatures, which have next to no hit points or armor and therefore won’t live long enough to register burning damage. And stay off your Mesmer.
