Should I use it now or should I just wait until I am level 80?

You can test it without using it up. Here is the Anet tutorial on it.

My advice if you are new create and play a number of professions to see what you may enjoy. Save the L80 boost for later when you have played through a lot of the game from a new point of view that has advanced through the game and learned the fundamentals. The value of the L80 boost in my opinion is really for players that have been around for awhile, leveled several characters, and don’t want to work through leveling up yet another character.

Of course if you do use it right away you will still be able to experience all the low level maps, personal story etc. However, even with down scaling you will be at an advantage as compared to a true level appropriate character. Plus you might use it and then end up not liking the profession you chose. That is why I suggest you start off with trying out a few professions from the start to get a feel for what you will like.

tl;dr Level up a profession or two the traditional way. Save the L80 boost for a profession later that you think you want to insta 80. You can then test it as shown in the tutorial linked above before you commit to it.

Don’t boost your first character. GW2 is very different from other games and there are so many posts on reddit and here from confused new players that used the boost and are getting wrecked in the new maps.

Make a character and level it. Make another character and boost it. Level your normal character and learn the way of the game and how stuff works. And play your lvl 80 on the side and try out things with it.

Alts in this game are very easy because the gear progression is fast and gear is easy to obtain. Most of us have many alts so don’t be scared to try this out.

My advice would be the same as other people.

If you’re new you should level at least 1 character normally (it doesn’t take long compared to most other MMOs) because you’ll learn a lot about the game by doing that. Then you can use the boost on another character to give yourself some more options. Or if you’re sure you only want 1 character you can use it on one that’s already level 80 to get the items it gives.

As you play you’ll also get Tomes of Knowledge which each give 1 level and on your characters birthday you’ll get a scroll to instantly level a character to level 20. So even if you use the boost you’ll still be able to quickly level additional characters later on.

If you’re not new and you’ve already got a level 80 then I think you only need to hold onto it until you’re sure you know which character to use it on. Common choices seem to be people who don’t like levelling picking a profession they like so they can jump straight into the fun stuff and people who do enjoy levelling picking a profession they don’t like but know can be useful so they don’t have to spend lots of extra time playing them.
