Just wondering if you can transmute a soulbound ascended fractal backpiece to a different character? Transmute to white, lose stats but upgrade back to ascended? Does it work?

This would only transfer the skin. The new item would have the stats of the white item. To get it back to ascended stats you will need a new item with the ascended stats to transmute the skin on to.
But from your post I suspect you want to transfer the item with stats, and this is not possible.

I guess my thought was if you transfigure your back piece into the quaggan backpack but then ascend it, the fractal skin will reappear with the new ascended stats. So I was wondering if transmuting the fractal back piece to a “white” item to drop “soul bound” stat, but then ascend the white stat version of fractal back…would it take on ascended stats, keep skin, and no longer be soul bound to other character.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it and if its possible to transfer the fractal back piece to a different character. Otherwise, its back to the grind for relics…which i’ll probably be doing anyway looking for skins.

If you want to ascend your back piece that has a different skin on it, you will need to get a whole new backpiece, ascend it, then transmute your old back onto the new one. If you wanted the pack piece skin on another toon, then transmuting it to a white then back to the new ascended piece should work (assuming you can still do this). Either way, the backpiece with the altered skin can’t be upgraded directly, it has to be transmuted onto another item with the stats you intend to keep (ascended stats in your case).
