Q:

Hi guys, I love doing PvE and Dungeons and i always like playing heavy Armored characters and i did love playing both warriors and guardians. I love the fact the guardians can survive most situations while dealing average dmg. I also the warriors they can kill the target quickly and deal amazing dmg. I TRULY LOVE BOTH THESE CLASSES. So i cannot decide wat to main. I like to kill targets quickly and survive most situations and most of the time i will play solo cause i play in odd hrs as i live in SE Asia. Help me guys need ur advices. Thx

From what I’ve seen, Guardians with GS can easily gather mobs and obliterate. It’ll just take some time.

From experience, axe/shield is very effective even if you’re traited for something else. 4 stacks of vuln from Axe 2 for 8 seconds compared to 1 stack of vuln from GS for 8 seconds (plus bleed). One of my favorites is sword/shield because of the massive bleeds I can inflict, if the bleed is high enough it’s almost as good as the mob dying to a single heavy blow.

I’ve yet to try sword/warhorn for solo PVE, but in dungeon instances the sword/warhorn warrior usually outlives my GS/axe warrior 80% of the time (watching their HP shoot up from their traited heals is impressive).

If your char can make it, I recommend taking both chars to northern Mt. Maelstrom into the spider area to test the variety. It may not be the best, but it’s alright considering that there is a vet spider that travels with a group of smaller ones that ought to make you keep an eye on your health for a bit.

I’m having a similar dilemma as Yusei. My difficulty in choosing between Guardian and Warrior is that, at least at lower levels, they don’t seem very different from one another. I’m assuming that changes as the classes advance.
In the teens, Guardian doesn’t seem to have much more survivability than Warrior, maybe even a little less when ambushed. Warrior may have a bit more burst dps (100B) but the difference seems negligible.

My questions are: Do the two classes diverge more at max level? I’ve read that Guardians are supposed to have more survivability than Warrior despite their much smaller HP pool. Is that true at max level? Do Warriors really have a significant DPS advantage over Guardians at max level?
I’m mostly concerned with PvE, although I’m sure I’ll PvP from time to time. I’d love to have the available time to play both profs to max level, but my real life schedule makes that extremely unlikely. The ability to play “casually” and still progress is one of the things that drew me to GW2. That’s why I want to settle on one class to level and master. I know I want a Norn in heavy armor, but beyond that I’m still undecided.

I am not sure what level you are, but I found guardian superior to the warrior. That is my opinion, others may feel different. In GW I only played warrior, in GW2 I have 2 level 80 guardians, first was trial and error, second I breezed to level 80 (2 deaths, falling off mountains). My warrior I abandoned at level 40, I have just started a new warrior so I should be able to give you a definite answer in a month or so..j/k. I am biased towards guardian, even with toughness and vitality maxed, my lvl 40 warrior was getting knocked down where my lvl 20 guardian with precision and power was standing her ground (same area I should add)

Ours is not to question why, ours is but to do and die

1. Forget main vs alts. I have both warrior and guard at 80, I like them both.
2. They are different classes with little comparison to make one over the other apart from pvp.
3. They mainly compare in that they are both easy to level.
4. Both are worth having, play both classes.

I am gonna play both but i need to have at least 1 character to lv 80.

Yes they do diverge more at max level though as always, they can have any role in a party if traited accordingly. Guardians have access to whole lot of party support utilities whereas Warriors have access to a lot of control and damage utilities. Health pool of a guardian is not a problem as they have huge heals available and access to very good defensive skills (mace and shield is nearly only defensive for example).

I play a shout warrior and am currently stuffing a dps guardian. Their dps is sadly in no way comparable. Hundred blades is dealing huge amounts of damage and nearly no other profession can put up that many in a short amount of time. Of course, I am mentioning pure burst only, dps over time is simply too hard for me to calculate but I’d still say the warrior is dealing a lot more, be it only for auto-attacks.

Le sigh… any class can do what you build it to do. Guardians are more useful on average though, even a kitten guardian will lay an aegis every once in a while.
