I been farming rich Iron and Platinum ore nodes for my Ascended gear and noticed how inconsistent some of the re spawn times are.

Some seem to respawn after server reset. Others I will mine before work, come home 9 hours later and will not respawn, where others have.

Also I parked a few toons next nodes. When I log them on the node is gone, but if I zone into that map with another character it is there!

What gives?!

I’m pretty sure it is 23 hours.

Nodes are basically soulbound so seeing them on one but not another is not unusual unless you don’t even see the stump on the other character.

Rich node respawn timer might function like JP chests where it depends on how many hours before reset you gathered from it.

There are two types of rich nodes:

• Permanent ones (always on the map)
• Random ones (sometimes on the map, sometimes not).

The random ones are reset each time the map is created, so if the IP address is new (to you — use the in-game command /IP to check), then you can gather it again. If the map disappears and then is recreated, I think you can mine it again (although this is difficult to test).

The permanent ones use two timers:

• Daily reset: there’s no way to the same mine a second time in any instance until the next reset.
• An elapsed time: you also cannot mine it again until after a certain amount of elapsed time. I’ve run a number of tests and the number is at least 6 hours and less than 15. Others I’ve discussed this with think it’s 12 hours based on their tests. (There also seem to be more than a few nodes that are exceptions to this.)

This secondary timer also applies to node farms and some open world chests, including the one at the end of sharkmaw’s cavern.

So for example, you open the chest (or mine the rich node, etc) at 00:01 UTC (one minute after reset). You still won’t be able to mine again until the next day at 00:00 UTC, i.e. at reset, nearly 24 hours later.

For a second example, you get the node at 23:00 UTC (one hour prior to reset). You won’t be able to use the node again at 24:00 UTC (one hour later, at reset); you will be able to ~12:00 UTC (12 hours later, although it might be as soon as 06:00).
