What to main!!!
If you are planning to pick your main on the basis of possible future compliments rather than what you personally enjoy playing………. Hmmmm. You already said Guardian may be to boring. I would say that rules out Warrior also. Maybe Mesmer. Always useful and can be complex.
I would agree with Astral, mesmer is always useful in some form no matter what kind of setting it’s in. It can’t tank really well, but it has great skills to avoid big attacks and provides a lot of supports and utilities. Mesmer is also a great profession for one on one PvP either on land or underwater. Guardian on the other hand, is more fit to your interest. It tanks well with many ways to mitigate/heal damage and superb group defensive support, but it’s one of the least complex profession. I suggest trying both in several dungeons, or PvP if they aren’t high level enough, before deciding which one to main.
Mesmer.
There is no other class in this game as far as I’m concerned.
I’m saying Guardian.
I too once thought mine was a bit boring but having explored them a bit more with different traits and weapon set-ups, I think they are anything but. Strongly recommend looking at them again.
Ace support skills and you are likely to be alive longer than anyone else so they will say “Thanks man!” when you get round to reviving them from a sticky puddle on the ground to their former glory.
I’ve heard about people using different characters for different things in the game. I might try that. I’d just not know which character to use for what^^
I would still want to keep a main or something on which i can work on, master the class and be rewarded, that kind of stuff.
I get bored very easy so I really need active and versatile playstyles.

I have one of each profession, 6 at 80 and 2 leveling. Of these I have 2 that I consider my main. However I plan to play all. It’s good to switch around some. Combat stays fresh. You learn the ins and outs of each class. If your group needs a profession in particular, you have it. There is some loss of deep knowledge of one profession, but it’s counterbalanced by knowing more about what the other classes can offer. In other words, you lose specific depth but gain overall flexibility
Guardians have so many viable builds. You can blink, leap and bind your opponent and use wards, domes and projectile reflections which are very wanted in WvW and such.
Mesmer is a hard class to master so personally I would recommend guardian for starters.

Mesmer would be for jumping puzzles then ^^
I have following problem with so many alts: I burn out extremely fast, not because of the characters but because I have to do all the areas so many times. Any tips on that?
