While i'm downloading it...
GW2 is entirely different from MMORPGs you’ve played before.
Forget all the things you’ve learned from other MMO experiences you had.
You’ll have to relearn everything from Professions to Combat and how PvE and PvP content works all together.
I’ll be more than happy to help you learn everything I know of the game while playing the game with you as we level.
Feel free to contact me in game! I’ll leave you my greetings from ingame mail to keep in touch.
Also feel free to add me on Skype for voice chatting if you like!

The fighting and movement takes a little bit of getting used to, like any new game.
The heavy armor classes are a little more forgiving while learning, as you don’t die as fast.
Warrior is probably the easiest to play for new players, elementalist the hardest.
Thief and Mesmer probably fall somewhere in the middle.
You can change your build anytime you want at a class trainer for not too much money.
After level 10, you gain a trait point every level up to 80, so 70 total.
You can invest the trait points as you like in different trait lines which all give different abilities and bonuses.
Pvp varies for all classes depending on the build you want to run.
In WvW, Some builds are more large group appropriate, some are more small team appropriate. Some builds are better for solo’ing.
You can use skill points you get levelling up and doing skill challenges to buy utility skills which are your 7-9 skills. Lots of different utility skills per class that you can use depending how you want to play your character.
Oh, thanks for the fast answers guys.
DreamyAbaddon, i’ll keep that in mind, as soon as i finish downloading the game i’ll try to contact you, i really appreciate that.
And Shonie, that helped a lot, so the heavy armor classes are generally easiest? (Guardian, Warrior?) Because in the main MMO i played my main character class was a mix of support (buffs and HoTs) and heavy physical DPS and it was the funniest to play, also one of the hardest to master. There’s something like this in here?
Also, sorry if i sound a bit confusing, my native language is not english xP
When you start the, well actually before you start, keep in mind that if Pvp is important to you, that you need to select a home server.
This home server will serve as the world you represent in WvW matches.
To change home servers costs 1800 gems, so quite expensive in terms of gold or real life money.
Mos.millenium.org
Will give you a decent idea of how populated a server is.
There are 27 servers in EU, and 24 servers in NA.
Others than paying to transfer servers, the only other option is to delete your characters and start over if you want a new server. So choosing a home server wisely is important.
I’m so happy that you are going to be playing this amazing game and the two professions that you are looking into are so much fun! To answer your questions, mesmers are able to use melee such as swords and greatswords, but you arent stuck with only being melee or only being ranged because you have the two weapons you are able to switch during combat. Also both of those professions are extremely fun and when they reach level 80 are imo some of the most fun classes just because they are so diverse in their skills. Thiefs are able to do pve, however you (atleast I do) typically see them in pvp where they are able to 1 shot people, however they are also amazing for pve such as group stealth. I hope this helps
Thiefs at 75 currently, it definitely provides great group support for dungeons and whatnot. SB is your AoE weapon, with conditions dealt on every initiative skill. Thief can be overwhelmed if there’s multiple opponents, but there’s enough blinds and stealth out the wazoo to get out of any situation. AOE isn’t as strong as some other classes, since their Melee weapons don’t cleave. They are really useful in dungeons, especially Arah where you can stealth past mob patrols. Pvpers worst nightmare, stealth and backstab someone for half their hp, blind and go for the kill.
Queen Of Macabre – 80 Thief
Dragonbrand [Ankh]
please don’t try to force yourself into the main story. Following that is completely optional and usually leads players to areas where you are killed in a blink because enemies ar 10+ levels. You should do the story, of course, but not as 1st option.

Welcome to the game.
Based on your stated preferences (group support and heavy physical dps), you could consider the Guardian profession.
Note, however, that there is no dedicated “healer” profession in Guild Wars 2. Some characters have some group healing skills, but in this game you should primarily rely on self-healing. (Fortunately, every character has a dedicated skill slot for a healing skill.)
There is also no clear-cut “tanking” or “dps” role division. Each profession can fulfill each function reasonably well (although some professions can excel in certain roles), and it is possible – and slightly encouraged – to switch roles during combat.
Half your available skills are tied to the weapons you equip, and there is a weapon-swap option that allows you to switch between two weapon sets.
(Two professions do not have weapon swap, but instead have a different mechanic to increase their skill options.)
So in short, there is no “wrong” way to play any profession. Experiment with as many professions as you like before settling on the one you like best. And within a given profession, experiment with all the weapon combinations available to you. Try not to settle on a single weapon set (or even two), but mix and match the weapons available to you depending on the challenges you choose to face.
