Q:
Why GW2 hate the crafters, should I abandon crafting ?
Crafting is something you do ALONGSIDE brawling with baddies. One feeds the other; the brawls get you the stuff you need to make the things that improve your brawling. I’m not seeing a problem here.
I will grant that the drop rates on that stuff could be higher. A lot of different crafting professions pull from the same pool of items; in my guild we have four different people fighting over who gets totems and blood, for instance. Meanwhile, as our Designated Jeweler, folks have no problem heaping me with silver and gems… I get off easy compared to them.
I don’t think it hurts crafters at all. If anything it forces you to experience more of the game. If you don’t want to explore the game just buy all of the mats on the trading post.
Also I don’t really see this as a question but more along the lines of complaining.
Typically I find that advancing 15 character levels gets me just enough trophies to advance one tradeskill by 75 points. My first character was able to advance one tradeskill (armorsmithing) to 400 while leveling without any grinding or outside help (trading post was down) — but in virtually every crafting tier, I had just barely enough trophies to do it.
I’ve resulted to selling all my crafting materials for now. Exploring is just such a better way of leveling up and finding weapons. Who wants to sit in a crowded area for hours upon hours just creating items which 99% of them you will be unsatisfied with? Don’t get me wrong. More power to the people that can actually deal with it but if it was the best way to level up in this game, I would be gone by now.
It would be nice if ArenaNet introduced an option for “Item Hunt”. For example if I am leatherworker and need leather for armour I would be able to check “Leather” on my ‘seeking list’ and scince this moment all creatures I kill, which can provide me with leather, will drop it.
It will make gaining resources from the mobs much easier.
And it would be much less “grindy” this way I think.
I quit crafting shortly after I tried it, the amount of mats needed to make anything is way to much, its also far to time consuming to try and farm that number of mats. I have guildies that loved to craft in most games they played (I know I don’t get it either) and even they have commented on the rediculous amount of mats needed making it not worth their time.
Perhaps you have been trying to level multiple crafting disciplines that fight for mats at the same time? I would recommend keeping it simple and choosing either:
x + cooking
x + jeweling
Jeweling and cooking are the only two disciplines that don’t really compete with any of the other ones for supplies. Beyond that, there is also an efficient way to level crafting and an inefficient way to level crafting. If using the inefficient one (i.e. crafting multiples of one thing rather than taking advantage of discovery and discovering as much as possible), you will have to grind a lot whereas if using the efficient one (i.e. break down materials until they give little to no exp and then discover with them) you will have to grind very little. It is about patience. Build up your stockpile before you craft -anything- and you’ll have leveling droughts, but will level it efficiently and quickly when you do level it. Don’t be premature!
As for whether the game hates crafters…well, I -can- say that the current playerbase/trading post market hates crafters since most crafted stuff is going for less than the mats you’d use to make it. So uh…as an aside you might be better off just selling your mats for now until prices calm down, especially the 2nd tier ones. That way you can use your profits to buy them in bulk once they stabilize as more players move beyond the 2nd tier and start demanding the 3rd and 4th tier items and beyond.

You are definitely not doing it right if you don’t want to level up while grinding for materials.
1- Just gather everything you see while playing the main quest and gettings map completion;
2- Use the TP;
3- Go kill low level monsters.
I’m level 25, I reached Armorsmith 75 yesterday. I grinded low level creatures that gives 7xp +1xp per kill. Getting 20 tiny scales didn’t even leveled my char by 1.
Like Cloud said, do what suits you (I feel the urge to add that crafting tier 3 armor pieces (armorsmith level 74), even if my guardian is level 25, gets me upgrades. Not for long, but still. I love the crafting in this game, it help my char gear-wise)

Discovery is indeed the fastest way to level crafting skills and on the side you earn a decent amount of xp with every discovery.
