Q:

Why are accessories instantly soulbound and unsalvageable?

I can deal with the instantly soulbound part (though I still don’t get why), but the unsalvageable part means they’re vendor food at 3silver

I don’t see the logic behind this.

It seems they fixed this. Accessories that drop are no longer instantly soul-bound and they are salvageable. I don’t know if it was because of my post, but I like to think that it was

no any accessories that isnt crafted is soulbound on pick up. Its because Anet was lazy early on when they stamped out karma to gold conversion and just flagged all of the non-crafted accessories because tagging just karma ones was too hard.

A majority of accessories you’ll get access to in the game that are actually useful will be crafted by you or other players. Those are not soulbound.

However, szar is right in that accessories found as drops (which isn’t too often and are normally inferior) and accessories gained from RNG mystic forge are soulbound on pick up.

Knowledge is power.

Should have been more specific; I meant accessories that DROP (ie from mobs or MF).
Still nobody has answered my question :>

Well the answer is, they just are. There isn’t really much of an explanation.

80 Guardian. 80 Warrior. 80 Thief. 80 Engineer. 80 Necromancer. 80 Ranger.

Possibly in order to stimulate jewelcrafting? It is a less used profession, after all…

I’m with LithePanther. The only accessory drops I’ve seen are either masterwork (green) or rare (gold). These items would normally be bound if equipped. Why are they bind on pick-up? While there might be some esoteric reason known to ANet, I’ve seen no comments by them, leaving us in the dark.

@Jure: I’m not sure Jewelcrafting is less-used. After all, it is the only source of maxed exotic accessories outside of PvP or the Mystic Forge.

I received an exotic ring as part of the Straits map completion. It has worse stats than what I currently have, cannot salvage or sell the kitten thing on the TP, so is utterly useless! All I can do is vendor it for 3 crappy silver …

I was so pissed after solo’ing the kitten map…
