My opinion is that its fine and you simply need to play a bit more to learn the ins and out of the class.
The only thing I think Ele’s need help with is water combat. I don’t have any real damaging abilities, which means fights take way to long, and few CC abilities. Sure, the few CC’s I had were decent when when I was level lower level but now it doesn’t seem like I come across many fights where less than 5 mobs agro all at once. Top that off with getting “Immune” message until I get to a certain angle while they continue to pound on me.
On the plus side I do love how the Earth Attunement plays with Scepter/Dagger. Churning Earth on a large pack then just watch the bleeds tick away. I have the power/precision/condition armor along with the power/condition/vitality jewelery. Sitting at 45% crit chance and am 10/10/30/0/0 spec. With the 30% chance to burn on crit, 20% damage below 25% hp, 5% damage to bleeding targets, 20% bleed duration, and 20% shorter cd for earth.

You guys all need to check the forums more. I’m an ele and personally I have no problem with it but there is a new thread on here at least once a day about how under powered eles are. No I have not played the other classes and I’m doing just fine playing on mine but when there is that much complaining about 1 class there is usually a problem. When a new game comes out there will always be complaining about class balancing but this is getting more than just the normal amount considering all classes have had a few threads about not being able to play them but it’s only been like 2 threads total while this class has too many to count.
I’m not saying I agree I have fun on my ele so I really don’t care if they change it but I am getting tired of people posting with their problems with their class and others coming just saying they suck. Why not try offering them some new build options or try to help them with their play style. This is players helping players not player putting down players. Try and help if you’re going to post if not leave.
Op I think if you really want to play your ele you should try some new builds or put a little more into the defensive trait line. When I hadn’t gotten the hang of surviving yet I ran with a build that was 10,10,10,10,30 that gave me a little damage from fire and crit from air while giving me def from earth and the earth trait slot I used earth armor that comes up at 50% so better survival then 10 water for more hp and 30 arcane to be able to switch elements faster. Also one of the arcane skills is a shield at 25% so now you have two shields. Top that off with earth shield and arcane shield on your skill bar and you have 4 shields. Then gear with power vit accessories and power precision toughness armor. Do all that and you get decent dmg around 2.6k and around 2.1k armor and 15k hp so not bad dmg and decent survival.

I have found that in water combat you need to focus hard on control and my favorite are ( don’t remember the name ill just say what they do) the lightning cage that stuns the bubble that takes them up and the rocks that pull them down, also the sand that blinds them. so while on land I find my main attacking elements to be fire earth and air. I have found in water my main is water and fire with earth and air being more control. In water you have the ice ball that you click once to shoot and once to explode and that’s good damage, the ice wall is decent as well and one that I found to be insanely good is the heal skill on the number 5 slot. It heals at the end but while your spinning it hits targets for great damage so just line up and use that. So for me I usually use air or earth to control and use fire and water to attack. I can’t speak for PvP, but really I don’t see how anyone can complain about Elementalist in PvE. I think we have to let go of the glass cannon paradigm as it is obviously failing us. We aren’t suppose to be big nukers. We’re supposed to be highly versatile. Numbers are nice, but never underestimate the hard to quantify value of options. Having so many abilities is not something to be discounted out of hand.

Jay needs to l2p, it cannot be more simply put than this.
I played with an ele in WvW that just blew most ppl that came near him/her away but the class is designed with changing attunements on the fly constantly and if your not doing that and doing it right then you are at fault not the game.
You guys don’t get it.
You need to put in so much more effort to do anything as an Ele because your skills are spread out over 4 attunements.
Also, you either go glass cannon, do okay damage, and die in half a second, or go tanky, do next to no damage, and survive a few hits.
We are also the only profession who have no immediate stomp prevention (All we have is our 3 when downed which has a 6 second delay from being downed before we can use it)
