my own name
Unfortunately, no. Many people hope this will be added by ArenaNet sometime in the future.
I have seen several people ask for this and was wondering if anyone could tell me the benefit of displaying your own name? Not doubting it’s use just trying to expand my understanding.
Some people use them for screenshots for promoting purposes (on guild sites), group screenshots, etc. Personally I would use this feature just to check if my name, my guild name and my title would display correctly, without having to ask someone else to confirm it. Then I’d turn it off until I’d change the title again.
Thank you for the explanation Drevin those all sound sensible reasons.
If you are in a party you can have someone else in your party call you out as the target. This will show your name above your head for your entire party including you (in white text).
This also puts a big red cross-hair above you as well though.
I’d like to see this as a selectable option in ‘Options > General Options’. I find it a little weird how every game on the market has this option, with the exception of the best game on the market (that would be this one).
Myself, I’m a title collector by habit. I like seeing my title under my name in a game.
its more weird GW1 had this option (u could select yourself), and then GW2 does not.
Any reason why this didn’t happen?

Difference between Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 was that your name in Guild Wars 1 was on the UI as part of the party panel. If you clicked on your name there, then your name and your title would be visible to you, a type of self targeting. Without a name to click on or self targeting, this game doesn’t have a way to self display your name and title.
ANet may give it to you.
Yeah I think in GW1 it was more a side-effect of the way the party UI worked than something they deliberately built in.
In GW2 the only way to see it is to get another party member to target you. Or to get someone else to take a screenshot and send it to you, but that’s only really practical as a one-off.

I’ve wanted this too!! Just got map completion and I want to see that fancy gold star next to my name
Self targeting is another way to check for bugs. How many of you were aware that some months back, a number of people lost their gold stars because of a bug? If you lose your star because of a bug, you’ll never know unless you ask someone. The star currently doesn’t show if someone else targets you and it’s not like anyone else is going to notice it’s gone and tell you.
For all you know, it’s gone right now. ^^
ANet may give it to you.
